As an ex fashion student, I'm just very familiar with her line of argument without necessarily agreeing or disagreeing with it. So I made a rather failed attempt at clearing up her argument a little before more members get upset and personal with her post.
Back to bridals perhaps?

Re: BRIDAL PICS.
Its so funny to see you all attacking me like that. Just to clear all your misconceptions, i'm not some filthy rich brat, who's donned in designer brands all the time. I do shop from high street brands (ESP the ones mentioned above). Let me make another thing clear to all those who think that HS brands make replicas. You have completely incorrect info. Most HS brands such as Zara, H&M and Topshop collaborate with top notch designers like Donatella Versace, Lanvin, Karl Lagerfeld (to name a few) to reach a larger audience and provide similar and inexpensive clothing. If they start making copies than they'd get fined/sued heavily and FYI, some brands that tried to do so have been served with a lawsuit. So please dont start judging someone unless you have proper info!
Coming back to my original post. Let me put it this way; if you prepare hard for an exam, put all your effort into it but a person who cheats off you gets away with a similar result, wouldn't that tick you off? If no, then you aren't normal. There's a HUGE diff btw taking an inspiration from a design and making an exact copy. So please don't misuse it.
Also, designers like HSY, Bunto, Sana Safinaz and Umar Sayyed aren't for everyone. They cater to an elite niche. If you can not afford them than that doesn't mean you have the right to copy them. It doesn't take a "creative genius" to come up with something nice. If you've ways and ideas to copy a design then i'm sure you can come up with something yourself too.
Re: BRIDAL PICS.
sweety you may have hundreds and thousands of dollars to spend on designer outfits but the rest of us live in the real world, and would either rather spend the money elsewhere or just wear whatever looks nice without being so conscious of labels. :)
Sweety, if they aren't so conscious of labels then why're they copying those labels?? :)
Re: BRIDAL PICS.
I think you peeps have grossly misunderstood that lady's post, why so sensitive? No where in her post she said go for the orginal mega expensive designer stuff only, she's basically saying people should be little more personalized and creative in their choices instead of blatantly copying a designer piece just because its a designer piece? I think its okay to have an opinion like that, no?
Thanks Jolie. You seem to be the only sensible person here!

if one designer is copying any other designer then its cheating thn they dont deserve to be called designers simply call them copy cat but if a normal person like u or me like some designer stuff n v r not in aposition 2 afford it but v make it from some kariger thn thn there is no shame or cheating yes its stupid 2 say v got original but no harm in copying any design n not ever1 is creative if its the case thn ever single person should b a designer if u can make ur own designs this doesnt mean tht u quote other ppl n say what a shame n every1 is pointing at u bc u just wanted 2 show tht they were wearing replica dresses n u were looking down on them which is not right
Re: BRIDAL PICS.
Why’re you so adamant about supporting such a thing? Stealing someone else’s work is not alright, please know that! And wow, how hypocritical of you to say that if a designer copies other designer its cheating but if a regular person does it there’s no shame? That’s very weird.
**devilish angel](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/members/devilish-angel.html) **God forbid, i’m not looking down on anyone here, you’re just as misunderstood as the rest. I’m only pinpointing the wrong thing. If you’re from the same league then that doesn’t mean you start assuming things about me. Do you personally know me? What gives you the right to judge me? Before posting a hateful remark about someone first think if you thoroughly know that person.

Re: Is it ok to copy designer joras?
^ done. discuss away!
Re: Is it ok to copy designer joras?
it's ok. i said so. lets focus on other things. who wouldn't wanna save money.
Re: Is it ok to copy designer joras?
To me - so long as the copier isn't trying to convince the buyer that the clothes are genuine HSY, Elan, etc then it's fine. Just like I've seen many Chanel 2.55 inspired by bags at stores - they're not calling it Chanel but simply copying the style/design because really some people don't have $2500 to spend on a bag but like the style. Same goes for clothes IMO.
Also, before I joined GS I had not one clue that there were Pakistani designers - a lot of people just honestly don't know.

Well, if I'm allowing a person to view my exam....then who is to blame for them cheating? Back in school....no one cheated off me b/c I made sure no one was looking at my test.
! And wow, how hypocritical of you to say that if a designer copies other designer its cheating but if a regular person does it there's no shame? That's very weird.
Politely butting in on this......aside from the ethics of copying in general....there is a major difference between a designer copying another designer.....and us "common folks" having a copy made. Designers copy other designers for profit. If I'm having a copy made...its not going to bring me any extra income....I just want to look nice at an event.
We can discuss whether or not it's "right" to copy a design all day long. At the end of the day....designers charge a high amount for their "originals". It's not always about having the money. I know quite a few women who have the money to be able to buy designer.....but they CHOOSE not to spend $$$ on an outfit. Girls whose outfits are being paid for "mommy/daddy" are one thing.....grown women who work hard to earn their $$$ usually think twice before purchasing.
If designers were so distressed about their designs being copied....then why don't they keep it a secret and require clients to come to their studio for private viewing? Instead, they hold large fashion shows and want their designs showcased in every magazine. And it's a ASSUMPTION to think that girl's who get outfits copied care about "labels". I saved some pics from another thread here recently and plan on having the outfits copied with minor modifications. To be honest....I can't even remember who designed it. I plan on getting it copied b/c the outfit is beautiful. And since I happen to value my own earned money....I see no reason to spend thousands on an outfit when I can get it made for a few hundread dollars. And as for people "thinking" it's a "designer"....ummm....no....in my case, my friends and family know I'm too careful with my $$$ to drop it on a "label". So even IF they recognized it.....they'd know that its a copy.
Going back to the "test" analogy......during a test...if I display my test and give others the opportunity to copy my test....then I have no right to blame anyone else but myself if they take advantage of the opportunity I'm giving to them.

Alright, but my question still stands--a person who copies a designer is considered to be a copycat and unoriginal.....what does that make the person who buys the actual designer item?
Sweety, if they aren't so conscious of labels then why're they copying those labels?? :)
Like I already said--because it's a design that they like, NOT because its simply "designer."
and you can answer my question too. If a person who copies a designer is unoriginal or copycat or whatever.....then what is someone who actually buys the designer item?
Well, if I'm allowing a person to view my exam....then who is to blame for them cheating? Back in school....no one cheated off me b/c I made sure no one was looking at my test.

Exactly.
Re: Is it ok to copy designer joras?
What Paheli said…![]()
The dishonest people on Facebook/Bargello etc who are trying to pass off HSY, Umar Sayeed etc as their own designs…a big No-No!! :nono:
However, if I see a picture/layout in a magazine, and like that particular outfit and then decide to go to Aashiana or Rabi Center, buy the kapra myself, then find a good karigar in Gulf who will also stitch it for me, for a fraction of the cost of the original designer, I hardly see that as unethical. It’s replicating a look, not stealing someones work and passing it off as my own.
Even magazines like In Style, Cosmo, Glamour etc all have regular pages on “The look for less”. Don’t they show you how to find/replicate a pricey, designer outfit styled by Rachel Zoe or someone by using peices from Old Navy, H&M or some place similiar???
I don’t by knock off Chanel bags with the “double C” from some car trunk in a back alley because I think that’s stupid and trying to pass off an obvious fake as an original. However, I have bought plenty of Chanel “inspired” bags from SuperTarget or Payless Shoes because the look nice and remind of the designer style that I appreciate. There is a difference.
