As an ex fashion student, I’m just very familiar with her line of argument without necessarily agreeing or disagreeing with it. So I made a rather failed attempt at clearing up her argument a little before more members get upset and personal with her post.

Alright, but my question still stands–a person who copies a designer is considered to be a copycat and unoriginal…what does that make the person who buys the actual designer item?

Sweety, if they aren’t so conscious of labels then why’re they copying those labels??

Like I already said–because it’s a design that they like, NOT because its simply “designer.”

and you can answer my question too. If a person who copies a designer is unoriginal or copycat or whatever…then what is someone who actually buys the designer item?

Well, if I’m allowing a person to view my exam…then who is to blame for them cheating? Back in school…no one cheated off me b/c I made sure no one was looking at my test.

Politely butting in on this…aside from the ethics of copying in general…there is a major difference between a designer copying another designer…and us “common folks” having a copy made. Designers copy other designers for profit. If I’m having a copy made…its not going to bring me any extra income…I just want to look nice at an event.

Going back to the “test” analogy…during a test…if I display my test and give others the opportunity to copy my test…then I have no right to blame anyone else but myself if they take advantage of the opportunity I’m giving to them.
