Re: Is it halaal or haram?
I found this in an old post from 1997 which says
IslamiCity.com - Q & A
II. Method of slaughtering animals: As to this issue, the fact that
chicken are slaughtered by electric machines and not manually is not a
reason not to make them Zabiha. In Saudi Arabia, where the largest
poultry farms in the world exist, chicken are also slaughtered by
electrical machines and an Allahu Akbar tape is played allowed to deal
with the issue of mass slaughtering which is no longer practical to be
done manually. Therefore, the method itself on its own is not the issue.
We hope this answer satisfies your needs and clarifies the issue in more
details. Thank you for asking and God knows best.
I found a couple of other web forums where people claimed that chicken slaughtered in Saudi Arabia is often machine slaughtered, as well as a fatwa that claims Sheikh Ibn Baz authorised this.

The majority of scholars permit slaughter starting from the back of the neck under the condition that the animal remains alive until its throat is cut. There is no doubt that the extremely quick cuts made by these machines ensures that the animals will still be properly slaughtered, even if the cut starts at the back of the neck.
**The ruling that a single pronouncement of Allah’s name upon starting up the machine is the official ruling issued by the Islamic Law Council of the Muslim World League in its resolution number 94 issued on 4 July 1997.
It is also in accordance with the fatwa given by Sheikh Abd al-Azîz b. Bâz former Grand Muftî of Saudi Arabia. **
And Allah knows best.
And lastly, here is a job posting currently open from a slaughterhouse in Saudi Arabia that is hiring an operator for a chicken slaughtering machine.
