Its not just allright..its desirable to do so...speciallly if you are using a toilet in a Pakistani train...
it's ok in most cases, but if you are peeing on a hard flat surface, it is advantageous to run backwards as you pee so that it doesnt hit your shoes..
I think you are talking according to Hadith? From what I have heard, this is one of the topics that proves the unreliability of Hadith. There is one that says you must pee standing up (excuse me for talking about this as a girl

) and another that says you must pee sitting down.
Another point is, do you think God actually intended to dictate things at such a level? I don’t think so. Even if Muhammed did one or the other, and we could actually know this for sure (which I am sure we can’t) is it relevant?

hopefully you wont trip and fall while doing that..or the shoes getting dirty would be really the least of your problems.
Well…i dont know if its ok or not..but as long as you dont dirty/ruin your cloths and you are in position where you cant sit down than i guess you can use it as exception, but i have never seen a hadith regarding this matter.
IF you do it standing up, there is great possibility that urine will get on your cloths…so i recommend that you SIT down and than take the piss!

OK Guys! All you need to know on how to answer the call of nature as in the hadiths/sunnah:
Volume 1, Book 4, Number 149:
Narrated 'Aisha:
The Prophet said to his wives, "You are allowed to go out to answer the call of nature. "
Volume 1, Book 4, Number 151:
Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar:
Once I went up the roof of our house and saw Allah's Apostle answering the call of nature while sitting over two bricks facing Bait-ul-Maqdis (Jerusalem). (See Hadith No. 147).
Volume 1, Book 4, Number 152:
Narrated Anas bin Malik:
Whenever Allah's Apostle went to answer the call of nature, I along with another boy used to accompany him with a tumbler full of water. (Hisham commented, "So that he might wash his private parts with it.)"
Volume 1, Book 4, Number 155:
Narrated Abu Qatada:
Allah's Apostle said, "Whenever anyone of you drinks water, he should not breathe in the drinking utensil, and whenever anyone of you goes to a lavatory, he should neither touch his penis nor clean his private parts with his right hand."
Volume 1, Book 4, Number 156:
Narrated Abu Qatada:
The Prophet said, "Whenever anyone of you makes water he should not hold his penis or clean his private parts with his right hand. (And while drinking) one should not breathe in the drinking utensil ."
Volume 1, Book 4, Number 157:
Narrated Abu Huraira:
I followed the Prophet while he was going out to answer the call of nature. He used not to look this way or that. So, when I approached near him he said to me, "Fetch for me some stones for ' cleaning the privates parts (or said something similar), and do not bring a bone or a piece of dung." So I brought the stones in the corner of my garment and placed them by his side and I then went away from him. When he finished (from answering the call of nature) he used, them .
Volume 1, Book 4, Number 158:
Narrated 'Abdullah:
The Prophet went out to answer the call of nature and asked me to bring three stones. I found two stones and searched for the third but could not find it. So took a dried piece of dung and brought it to him. He took the two stones and threw away the dung and said, "This is a filthy thing."
Volume 1, Book 4, Number 221:
Narrated Anas bin Malik:
A Bedouin came and passed urine in one corner of the mosque. The people shouted at him but the Prophet stopped them till he finished urinating. The Prophet ordered them to spill a bucket of water over that place and they did so.
Volume 1, Book 4, Number 224:
Narrated Hudhaifa:
Once the Prophet went to the dumps of some people and passed urine while standing. He then asked for water and so I brought it to him and he performed ablution.
Volume 1, Book 4, Number 225:
Narrated Hudhaifa':
The Prophet and I walked till we reached the dumps of some people. He stood, as any one of you stands, behind a wall and urinated. I went away, but he beckoned me to come. So I approached him and stood near his back till he finished.
Volume 1, Book 4, Number 226:
Narrated Abu Wail:
Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari used to lay great stress on the question of urination and he used to say, "If anyone from Bani Israel happened to soil his clothes with urine, he used to cut that portion away." Hearing that, Hudhaifa said to Abu Wail, "I wish he (Abu Musa) didn't (lay great stress on that matter)." Hudhaifa added, "Allah's Apostle went to the dumps of some people and urinated while standing."
So, mundyaa make sure you follow everything to the dot; that is what "your wahabiya tribal ritual" is all about!

faceup, thanks for pointing out these hadith. they are great. so the answer is you can piss while standing up if there is a danger of some filth getting on ur clothes if you sit down. But we should sit down.

Zara, I dont see the hadith contradicting themselves. But its our understanding of hadith thats flawed. Lets not forget folks back in the Arab land water was a luxury thus the use of stones. Islam is the most practical religion of the world along with the most complete.

"Abu Wa'il reported: Abu Musa inflicted extreme rigour upon himself in the matter of urination and urinated in a bottle and said: When the skin of anyone amongst the people of Israel was besmeared with urine, he cut that portion with a cutter. Hudhaifa said: I wish that'your friend should not inflict such an extreme rigour. I and the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) were going together till we reached the dumping ground of filth behind an enclosure. He stood up as one among you would stand up. and he urinated, I tried to turn away from him, but he beckoned to me, so I went to him and I stood behind him, till he had relieved himself."
I think there is a also a well-known Hadith saying that you must pee sitting. Perhaps Jawaan can quote it?

yes... I couldnt find one where the Prophet (pbuh) did mention that we MUST sit down. So like you said its upto our judgment... just like the Prophet (pbuh) used his judgment to decide if the place was clean enough to sit down. But sitting down is the prescribed way as its the best way for us to avoid it to touch our clothes.
Well if there is one with the MUST SIT DOWN, than we ll find it, takes time, effert and willingness to search!

Face up...you listed alots of hadith, volume soo and soo # soo and soo but TELL US THE NAME OF THE BOOK buddy! anyways here what i said earlier, if your in situation like you cant sit down and have to do it standing up...

A Muslim may do wudoo’ in whatever way is easy and practicalfor him, whether sitting or standing. He may also drink standing or sitting, although it is better to drink sitting down.He may also urinate standing up if necessary, as long as no one can see his ‘awrah (private parts which should remain
covered) and there is no danger of the urine coming back on him. It is better to urinate sitting down, because this is how the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)
did it in most cases. (Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah, 5/202).
