Threads like these make me sad. Unfortunately, my dad’s side isn’t good at dealing with issues and we don’t have much of a relationship with any of them. 7 siblings and we talk to… 1 other one. They all talk to each other though so it’s just us.

There’s a lot of drama in every family and my mom’s side is no different than my dad’s BUT the thing is, that they’ll fight/scream/yell but a few days later will all be together. My dad’s side tends to make everything a matter of their ego and will sever ties quickly–or my dad will at least.

Growing up it sucked because we didn’t have family eids or dinners or dawats and I didn’t have any of my uncles/aunts present for my graduations but it wasn’t a big deal. Now that I’m getting engaged, it REALLY feels weird because we have no one. My in -laws have a very close family and all 50+ people show up to everything. We don’t have anyone representing our side.

I don’t think my dad realizes that far reaching consequences of his actions because we’re basically nonexistent in his family’s eyes. But oh well. I’ve told myself that I’m not gonna do this with my own family iA and I’m really happy that I’m marrying into a family that DOES value family ties and won’t just cut contact like that over things.

I value family relations but yeah, from what I’ve seen, when money/finances are involved, lines tend to get crossed and it destroys relationships.
