This is something that i have always wanted to know for sure is crab meat halal? i am new to gupshup so i dont know if this has been discussed here before or not.I used to eat and love the crab sub from subway because i always thought it was a seafood that was fine to eat but then about a year ago a friend told me it was haram. Ever since then i havnt eaten it but now somebody told me its fine to eat so i was wondering if someone can shed some light on this.

Nope Crabs r not Hala.Only Those sea food Species r halal which dont Hve Blood in their Vesseles.

Please, help me understand where in above ayaah, it is mentioned that sea food species are halaal if they do not have blood in their vessels? Give me a reference from Quran on that condition… Only Quran please 
Coming back to the question… Crab meat is halaal in all four school of thoughts but according to Imam Abu Hanifa:rehm:, it also falls under the category of shrimps which are considered “makrooh” in his fiqh. Please, note that Makrooh is not equal to haraam… Makrooh only means that if you feel disgusted with it, it is highly recommended to avoid it but consumable otherwise.

You mean the ones that have blood, are Halal because all fishees have blood being pumped by an ever so small heart........:) .

I'm sure crab meat is halal. Don't they sell it in a few places in Karachi? In simpler words, Shias take it as haram? is that right? Don't start a Shia, Sunni hue and cry, the only reason why I'm asking is becoz my HUSBAND is Shia and he eats crabs too : )
Just wants to clear some stuff....please advice!!

From seafood, only fish is made Halaal for us. Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, 'Two carions are made Halaal for us; Fish and locust. ' (Mishkaat vol.2 pg.361). Fish is classified as a Vertebra. Crabs and lobsters are not vertebras but they belong to the Crustaece group, hence, not permissible.

A friend of mine whose father is a doctor adviced me to have crab soup when i was sick in singapore :O - and my father told me that in china town or some chinese restaurant he and his colleagues had an octopus, like they cooked it on their table and all and i had a huge fight with him that it was haram while he said that his research is more then mine hence he knows that it is not haram otherwise the other people who were paanch waqt namazi wouldn't have ordered it; now this really pisses me off when some say day and some say night man Allah should come and clear it...

Along with that i also heard that here in Canada and U.S. us muslims keep on searching for halal meat and all while all they do is write AllahOAkbar on the knife and cut the meat which is not the proper way either.

I know someone who says Salmon is haram because its not white, so is crabs etc but he buys anything that has written zabiha - so a friend of him took zabiha sticker & pasted it on a squid in No Frills (Canada) - bhaee sabih zabiha squid khareed la'ay, why? His answer was: Its Zabiha .. must be halal :))

The crab meat available in most stores is actually imitation meat from some fish right? so since its a fish, its halaal?

imranjaff: Lahman Tariiya means FRESH MEAT ... Please, do not interpret the word as what fresh meat can be and all... Fresh meat is Fresh meat and in easy language it means, even a fish that dies before you catch is not fresh.

again.. u are interpreting Tariiya (FRESH) as if it means no blood in vessels....
dun see that thing in Quran...
