Used to be true back in 60s to early 90s that men dominated the pay scale. But not anymore in my opinion. I see more professional female workers than men in general. And women are earning equally as men are here. Women getting paid less is a female propaganda and women generally do have more rights here than men. It is fact.

My previous neighbor was a Pakistani uncle living with his family told me, son " Women and Dogs have more rights than men here in Canada so beware" and I couldn’t stop laughing.

Even here on GS I tried to get suggestions from couple of people who live in same city but couldn’t get something positive. I just moved from Toronto to Calgary so it’s totally a new city, new people and if I can find anybody on GS who can guide me than that would be awesome.

Go beyond desis. As I suggested use meetup and LinkedIn liberally but judiciously.

When you say you asked people for suggestions but did not get anything positive, what were you asking for?

I would suggest starting a thread in careers section and maybe people can give you some perspective,

3 yeas is too little to make such observation, specially when are not in the work force.

listen to 89.5 fm(on internet since you are in cal) so you know the city and the country, and women and their issue. and men and their issue.. and middle east and their issue. and environment and its issue. and rob ford and his issues… and disabled and their issue…etc

in general people and their issue…

not every one is muhammad ali… or slah ud din, that they come look and conquer.

How about divorce cases where men are torn in half? Men who have to pay alimony just so their wives can maintain a certain standard of living, even if the husbands themselves have to sleep in the streets? Men who have to pay child support, sometimes even when the children aren’t biologically theirs? Misleading bro.

Once you break the stats down by position and hours worked, the gap is negligible, and may or may not be attributed to lifestyle choices (job with fewer demands but less pay etc). In any case, a gap usually exists, but it’s nowhere close to twenty or thirty cents per dollar, more like five cents.

Granted, these stats are for the US (easiest to find) but I’ve seen similar stats for the UK, and I imagine most of the Western world wouldn’t be much different. The reason this crap exists is because eliminating it would cost column inches and campaign talking points.

How did this post not receive more credit? An excellent illustration of the difference between equal pay vs. pay equity. Although not sure where they are getting < 40K for HR (but then again it is HR Admin).

no, dogs are not better treated than men. what a stupid thing to say. It might be more of an egalitarian country then others, but women do not get more benefits then men. I personally made it pretty far career wise because I worked for it, really hard. Put in a bunch of overtime, worked on weekends…it was definitely not handed to me. Women might be raised to be more committed to education and work, to going after their dreams..this type of upbringing might make the difference. But none of this was ever handed to me because I am a woman. I work for the government, a place that is supposed to be about equity and all…and still, all of management (whether middle or upper) is mostly made up of men…

I agree with you that everything needs patience but moving to Calgary really worked for me so I’m glad that I made good decision.

I’ve been in Canada for 3 years now and what I observed apart from women and dogs have more rights than men is that they have more better job opportunities as well especially if you’re good looking. My aunt’s family has been living here for 15 years and it’s my cousin’s own words that his mom and sis never had any difficulty finding a job doesn’t matter what kind job it’s but on the other hand his father and him had to struggle a lot and when it came to their professional careers his sister got a job in her last year of school but my cousin had to search for another 1.5 years after finishing his school which is still not good as hers and btw they both belong to same profession.

I find it quite disgusting that you placed women and dogs together in one sentence there, as if it is natural for women to have the same rights as animals? Speaks volumes about your disgusting desi mentality that you clearly have not gotten rid of in the past 3 years
