Is Canada a Women's country?

I’ve been in Canada for 3 years now and what I observed apart from women and dogs have more rights than men is that they have more better job opportunities as well especially if you’re good looking. My aunt’s family has been living here for 15 years and it’s my cousin’s own words that his mom and sis never had any difficulty finding a job doesn’t matter what kind job it’s but on the other hand his father and him had to struggle a lot and when it came to their professional careers his sister got a job in her last year of school but my cousin had to search for another 1.5 years after finishing his school which is still not good as hers and btw they both belong to same profession.

Yes and I am the prime minister of Canada.

Re: Is Canada a Women’s country?

No, men still earn about 20% more than women there.

Gender Income Gap

Maybe his sister and wife are better professionals than himself or his father.

Partyslims shared a good statistic. What can you offer in terms if ratio of men to women in top academic programs? Number of female CEOs, unemployment by gender etc. Even then what you have to see is whether people are in line of work that has been hit more. Eg men in Canada do have slightly higher unemployment rate, question is whether that extends across the board or by profession. In US, men’s unemployment numbers covered traditionally make dominated jobs that were hit hard, factory and construction workers especially.

Is Canada a Women’s country?

I don’t think that’s true just based on your scenarios. My cousin is a grad school graduate and is having the hardest time finding work. I think gender has very little to do it. I think the people in your case may have been at the time and right place or had better credentials, traits for the job.

Re: Is Canada a Women’s country?

It might not be without merit, but I have seen that women have come to dominate industries that had men in them before. I don’t want to start a fight here by feminists, but I have had seen that personally in many industries. Men who seem to think with their lower extremities also don’t help matters when they hire interns.

All in all, it is a complex topic. For me, I am not against women being equal but they have to do the time for the crime. For example, I am not a gym buff but I can bet you that the army won’t lower upper arm strength and push-up requirements unlike what has been happening recently as it came out in the news.

Re: Is Canada a Women’s country?

may be he is ugly and his sister is not :stuck_out_tongue:

Yet,the top positions are still held by “white” middle-aged men. In terms of the experiences of racialized women, they are considered “second class citizens.” I do not think your argument is valid at all,you need to remember women were not allowed to vote until the 1920s and that does not include the aboriginal population who got voting rights in 1960s…Women have been subjected to gender and racism interlockingly. The experience of some does not apply to everyone. In fact look at the “charter of value” act that Québec is trying to enforce…

Re: Is Canada a Women’s country?

I know that if I go into stats, it tells the opposite story but it’s just my experience because wherever I go even in security industry where I went for interview found head recruiter was a female. I’m not against equality and I agree that executive positions are still hold by men but I think things are changing now.

Is Canada a Women’s country?

I agree with doppleganger, woman have definitely come up in a lot of major areas in Canada because generally I think there is equality everywhere and it seems to be taken seriously (at least compared to the US where I am living now) but I think to say that men have less rights, not sure if that’s accurate, doesn’t seem so, I just think woman have been seriously and unbiasedly been given the same opportunities that men have had for a long time. I don’t sense gender inequality over there as much as I do over here.

Re: Is Canada a Women’s country?

Or maybe you two are just butthurt. The guy asked a valid question and you two chose to respond with personal attacks?

How about divorce cases where men are torn in half? Men who have to pay alimony just so their wives can maintain a certain standard of living, even if the husbands themselves have to sleep in the streets? Men who have to pay child support, sometimes even when the children aren’t biologically theirs? Or women invariably getting child custody, as long as they don’t do a few lines of coke right in front the judge? Or how about scholarships for women? You will never find one that’s just for men.

Re: Is Canada a Women’s country?

.
Not only canada bro, ye dunya females ki hai hr jagah, hm tou khamkhawa ghoom rey hain :hehe:

Re: Is Canada a Women’s country?

So what you have to do is factor the general stats with your experience to . Now there are definitely areas where there are more women then men- roles/levels/industry/field vary quite significantly.

The example you gave of security industry is very pertinent because I have spent some time in it as well. While you will find the companies filled with men as engineers. technicians, analysts etc, recruiters and HR are very often women. Marketing is another interesting area where when you look at Marcomm it seems to have more women, but product marketing or product mgmt looks to have more men. I fully understand you are not against equality, and did not have a reason to doubt it.

You have to ask yourself, is gender the only reason that your girl cousin got a job but not the guy? same field is great, same university? same grades? same networking? same focus area? similar personality. Could there be something to it, sure. Is it more likely that it is more than a gender basis..probably. Look, I dont know you, and trolling ppl is hither my style nor intent. I am saying it in your best interest to not let this become a scapegoat in any sense of the way. If you are having a little bit of a challenge, the best you can do for yourself is to evaluate what you can be doing better in how you are looking for career opportunities, levels, approach, networking, companies etc. That will truly help you.

Re: Is Canada a Women’s country?

The guy asked a valid question and I provided a valid perspective to make the guy think if there are other things at play than just gender in the career success. I dont see how that is a personal attack, and neither did the OP.

Re: Is Canada a Women’s country?

Well each and every day is a challenge for me because being on my own with nobody around like family, friends and relatives is the hardest part of my life. Anyways I’m making my way to achieve what I like to and I know it’s going to take some time and serious effort so just hoping for the best and btw how to do an effective networking because sorry to say, our own Pakistani people never helps and guides what to do or what not so I’m doing what I think is best for me. Thanks for your feedback and encouragement.

Being away is tough. A number of people on this site have faced the same and you may want to reach out to people here to get perspective on how they coped. Make new friends where you are, that will help.

For networking if you went to school here, get involved in alumni organization activities. If not look up for industry related professional groups in the area, on linkedin, and on meetup.

My experience with desis in general has not been great either. Even if desis were helpful, or there were friends and family around, don’t limit or focus on such a small segment for networking.

Re: Is Canada a Women’s country?

Misleading bro.

Once you break the stats down by position and hours worked, the gap is negligible, and may or may not be attributed to lifestyle choices (job with fewer demands but less pay etc). In any case, a gap usually exists, but it’s nowhere close to twenty or thirty cents per dollar, more like five cents.

Do Men Really Earn More Than Women? - Infographic - PayScale

The Gender Pay Gap is a Complete Myth - CBS News

(this article includes a link to a report commissioned by the US department of labour. Here is an excerpt.)

“This study leads to the unambiguous conclusion that the differences in the compensation of men and women are the result of a multitude of factors and that the raw wage gap should not be used as the basis to justify corrective action. Indeed, there may be nothing to correct. The differences in raw wages may be almost entirely the result of the individual choices being made by both male and female workers.”

Granted, these stats are for the US (easiest to find) but I’ve seen similar stats for the UK, and I imagine most of the Western world wouldn’t be much different. The reason this crap exists is because eliminating it would cost column inches and campaign talking points.

Re: Is Canada a Women’s country?

Used to be true back in 60s to early 90s that men dominated the pay scale. But not anymore in my opinion. I see more professional female workers than men in general. And women are earning equally as men are here. Women getting paid less is a female propaganda and women generally do have more rights here than men. It is fact.

Re: Is Canada a Women’s country?

lol…the question was not valid at all.

now if you want to cry for OP (as he did for his cousin) sure its your life.

Re: Is Canada a Women’s country?

Even here on GS I tried to get suggestions from couple of people who live in same city but couldn’t get something positive. I just moved from Toronto to Calgary so it’s totally a new city, new people and if I can find anybody on GS who can guide me than that would be awesome.
