Iraqis burn US flags to celebrate troop pullout : US failure in Iraq!

Iraqis burned American flags, showing banners and thronged the streets of the western city of Falluja to celebrate the withdrawal of US troops from the former al Qaeda stronghold and site of some of the Iraq war’s fiercest battles.

Some 3,000 people flooded the mainly Sunni city carrying Iraqi flags, banners with “Falluja: The City of Resistance” printed on them, and photos of Falluja residents killed by US forces after the 2003 US-led invasion.

Part of the crowd burned several US flags in their celebrations over the American withdrawal.

“Celebrations mark a historical day for the city of Falluja and we should remember in pride the martyrs who sacrificed their blood for the sake of this city,” Dhabi al-Arsan, deputy governor of Anbar province, told the crowd.

Falluja, a main city in the western desert province of Anbar, served as a base for Iraqi fighters after the invasion, and witnessed two major conflicts in 2004. US troops used overwhelming force, tanks, fighter jets and helicopter gunships to crush insurgents there.

Hundreds of Iraqis were killed in the fighting and thousands were forced to flee their homes.

“I’m glad to see the Americans are leaving Iraq. It’s only now we truly feel the taste of freedom and independence,” said Ahmed Jassim, 30, a taxi driver as he waved the Iraqi flag.

“We will not see American forces anymore. They remind us of strife and destruction.”

Nearly nine years after the invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein, Washington plans to end its military presence and pull out the remaining 5,500 U.S. troops before Dec. 31.

Only a small contingent of civilian trainers and fewer than 200 US military personnel will remain in Iraq.

Many Iraqis await the US withdrawal with relief and hopes for a better future, despite fears that sectarian tensions bubbling beneath the surface will return just as Iraq struggles to end years of war and violence.

“After the Americans leave we want to see a united Iraq, we do not want disputes,” Hameed Jadou, a Sunni cleric, told the crowds. “Whoever says this is an Iraqi Sunni, Shi’ite, Kurdish, or Turkman, is using the terms brought by the occupier.”

“We will not see American forces anymore. They remind us of strife and destruction.”** The epic failure of america’s misadventure in Iraq can be summed up in this one statement. What has the US done in iraq since it invaded illegaly?

“Whoever says this is an Iraqi Sunni, Shi’ite, Kurdish, or Turkman, is using the terms brought by the occupier.”

The americans have spread sectartian violence when before it never existed, even iraqis can see their divide and rule policy where they tried to turn iraqis against each other.

The US has also managed to install a puppet regime, created social chaos and destroyed the iraq’s infrastructure. The iraq misadventure has been biggest falure for america since veitnam.

Re: Iraqis burn US flags to celebrate troop pullout : US failure in Iraq!

What have the american imperialists achived in iraq?

obama said yesterday we have left a soverign state?

what a joke, it was a soverign state that the United States invaded illegally in first place

what a bunch of lying hypocrites.

they have left behind a divided and destroyed country.

Re: Iraqis burn US flags to celebrate troop pullout : US failure in Iraq!

They accomplished nothing. Well save for violating international laws, killing people and committing crimes against humanity.

Re: Iraqis burn US flags to celebrate troop pullout : US failure in Iraq!

^ Exactly.

It would be interesting to see a Revolutionary fervour in the people of Iraq like the rest of the Arab states... but I suppose America and the Saudis could never abide that.

Re: Iraqis burn US flags to celebrate troop pullout : US failure in Iraq!

Burning flags is revolutionary fervor?

Re: Iraqis burn US flags to celebrate troop pullout : US failure in Iraq!

Saddam Hussein's rise to power was thanks to CIA and he remained an American stooge for a long time (like the rest of them in the Middle East). Post 9/11 America invaded Iraq and toppled him to secure their own interests and to implement their new Middle East policy (aka Global War on Terror). Post-Saddam Iraqi government does represent the people of Iraq to a great degree and has a chance to improve. Iraq's biggest enemies are the neighbouring Arab states.

Re: Iraqis burn US flags to celebrate troop pullout : US failure in Iraq!

the iraqi nation has just been destroyed by america in 9 years of occupation the society has been systematically turned upside down.

The new iraq regime has been hand picked by the US embassy sitting in the green zone of baghdad.

the new regime is poised to attack each other under sectarian banners to ensure interests are met for each particular "tribe or people"

Yet you came to the conclusion the arabs next door are the biggest threat???

It was the United States that is the threat and continues to interfere and be a threat to the entire region.

Re: Iraqis burn US flags to celebrate troop pullout : US failure in Iraq!

^ I agree that US is the common and the biggest problem for the Middle East. Yet I believe that it is enemies within us in the form of rulers and kings who allow the exploitation to keep happening over and over. You can not keep on blaming the US for our own failures like we did to UK for the last century. Look at the recent history. Muslim UAE, Qatar sent aircrafts to bomb Muslim Libya. Muslim Syria, Jordan keep sending suicide bombers into Muslim Iraq. Muslim Saudi Arabia sent forces inside Muslim Bahrain to suppress people and protect the king who wants to protect the largest US airbase in the Middle East. Muslim Saudi Arab would rather see Muslim Iran and Lebanon bombed. Muslim GCC (aka Gulf CounterRevoulution Club) wants NATO to bomb Muslim Syria into submission. And these are just the recent events!

Re: Iraqis burn US flags to celebrate troop pullout : US failure in Iraq!

i agree with your point about the corrupted and tyrant rulers in muslim countries 100%.

Go on any of the islamic or political forums they insult every muslim ruler of every muslim country even you go on the streets you will find same answer. The government do not represent the muslims in any way whatsoever.

So if the people do not support the rulers who does? you will find they are protected by security forces and politically it is united states or britain supporting them.

Imperialist nations today are still interfering this is a reality britian in the past and today it is mostly USA, this will continue until the muslims with the power and ability to make the change do so.

In basic terms it means getting the support of the leaders of clans, tribes, leaders of the armies, the ones who can make the radical change we have to win them over and make them feel this problem, it is not a selfish or materialistic call it is islamic duty.

Re: Iraqis burn US flags to celebrate troop pullout : US failure in Iraq!

^what is your opinion about Iran?

Re: Iraqis burn US flags to celebrate troop pullout : US failure in Iraq!

so, who was the last soldier to die for this pointless war?

Re: Iraqis burn US flags to celebrate troop pullout : US failure in Iraq!

This US withdrawal from Iraq is a fraud.

US embassy in Iraq is planing to have 20,000 staff ?? what kind of embassy needs 20,000 staff, normal embassies have 40 staff.

US troops have gone down road into kuwait so they just roll back in when they feel like it.

Iraqi air space is fully controlled by USA, you control airspace you control the land.

Ask yourself the question is the US really leaving based on the above or are they just moving few steps to the left pretending they leaving?

Re: Iraqis burn US flags to celebrate troop pullout : US failure in Iraq!

As i wrote in another thread ...... they've come to stay one way or the other ;)

Re: Iraqis burn US flags to celebrate troop pullout : US failure in Iraq!

Ironically, these acts of demonstration by the people of Fallujah are are a result of the culture of freedom in Iraq, which is only possible now because of the removal of Saddam Hussein and his brutal dictatorship. The people elected their leadership, and hence the government is serving its people instead of a dictator reaping benefits while the people suffer. Now the people of Iraq have a voice, can play their significant role in society, and can help push for the progress and development of their country.

Why blame the historical sectarian violence that has existed, and still exists in the Middle East, on the United States? The sectarian divide in Iraq has always existed and was perpetuated by Saddam Hussein through his brutal treatment and oppression of the ****es, the Kurds and all those who opposed his rule. A united, stable and peaceful Iraq is in the best interest of the United States and the rest of the increasingly interdependent world.

We have been transparent in our plans to build an embassy in Iraq as part of our commitment to the Iraqi people and to the region. This is a sign of our transition from a military-dominated approach to a diplomacy-driven one, where we are supporting the development of a free and progressive Iraq through our embassy. We have kept our pledges and have withdrawn our troops from the Iraqi soil, as our president had vowed.
