Iran’s enrichment dilemma

At last the Europeans had their way…However it is yet to be seen how long Iranians would remain committed to this agreement.

VIENNA: Iran confirmed on Sunday it is withdrawing a demand to exempt some equipment from a freeze on fuel cycle activities and accepts full suspension of uranium enrichment, a senior official told AFP.

“I confirm from my side that we have delivered the letter to the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) to confirm that Iran will permit the IAEA to place these components, 20 centrifuges, under agency surveillance,” Iranian nuclear negotiator Hossein Moussavian said.

“Iran will not conduct any testing (of the centrifuges) and will discuss further with the EU3 (Britain, Germany and France) in December when discussions for a long-term arrangement (on the freeze) commence,” Moussavian said.

Moussavian said Iran was also set to conclude talks with EU negotiators Britain, France and Germany on a resolution the European trio is to submit on Monday to a meeting of the IAEA’s 35-nation board of governors

The resolution puts the IAEA’s stamp of approval on the uranium enrichment suspension, a confidence-building measure by Iran designed to allay US charges that Tehran is secretly developing nuclear weapons

Seems like Shia Maulvies know how to listen. First Iraq's Sistani and now Iran's Mullahs backed down and saved themselves. I wish Pakistani Maulvies learn from the two cases.

Maybe your right, or maybe they're playing america at her own game?

Iran is a nuclear power no matter how you cut the cake, its not IF but WHEN....

AN excerpt
Jerusalem, Nov 21 (PTI) Iran will reach a point of no return in six months in its quest for nuclear weapons....

hallelujah

The point of no return might be an American base in downtown Tehran.

:jhanda:

^ they tried that before 79. It didnt go down very well. besides america turningon iran will be suicidal, in the sense that iraqi shias will also get involved.

Remember who was the Prez at that time? Carter!

Back then Soviet Union was marching in Afghanistan with pride and pomposity.

Things in the ME changed even more drastically after Gulf War-I.

Iranian Mullahs are smart so far. They have buckled under pressure farther than I thought they would. If the trend continues, Iran may avoid sanctions. But the price will be the IAEA locks on the centrifuges.

I hope every thing works out peacefully.

I forgot how many Iranians were killed (sorry, I mean gassed) by Iraqis while Reagan was the Presidente? Anyone with any figures?

I think Unites States should let Israel take care of this one. They are pretty good at that.

hallelujah

Jokes aside... US also knows that its fighting a losing war by trying to browbeat countries into not acquiring nuclear technology. The proof is that US herself is now developing more advanced, more mobile and more focused nuclear weapons. Pretty soon it will be a free-for-all. And its not a pretty picture, actually. More weapons, deadlier weapons in the hands of stupid people. Then again, c'est la vie. The price of progress.

However, till that time, its all secret progress in nuclear field. It takes countries a lot of guts and determination to start, maintain and successfully conclude a nuclear weapons program. Iraq and Libya are poster childs of failed programs. India, Pakistan and North Korea did succeed with a combination of reourcefulness, intelligence and security. Only time will tell if Iran joins the former club or the latter.

Personally I think atleast a few muslim countries should have nuclear weapons, as that keeps the heat away from Pakistan (sole nuclear prowess) as well as staggers the risk of adventure by other countries.

For the IQ of a monkey "it" is quite intelligent... :)

I am not sure why are we so happy about Iranians getting nukes? We are killing all those Shias for nothing?
