Agreed, with a liberal Iran on their side US would not have had the need for Pakistan which could have bode well for us. Oh well.

Maybe not, but considering that America was reeling from vietnam, the CIA would have wanted to have two countries to play games against the USSR for what soviets did to america in vietnam even though it would be more on america’s own terms.
