The way I see it. The last time America invaded a strong country was during WW2. Since then they've never fought/invaded a nation on their own whose armed forces are ready for any eventuality.
That is because the only country that could challenge was the USSR and any war between USSR and USA would lead to a nuclear war which would destroy both sides.
They invaded Korea (with 18 other countries) and ended up with two of them.
Your history is wrong. Korea was divided into two parts in 1945. North Korea with the backing of China and USSR invaded South Korea. USA and its allies rallied and forcing China and USSR to ask USA for a ceasefire and not the other way around.
They invaded Vietnam, a country which had just gained independence, no proper regular armed forces for years and still lost to them.
Again your history is wrong. They didn't invade any country. After the French left, Vietnam was divided into two parts, North Vietnam and South Vietnam. Just like during the Korean War, the communist north sought to unite the two Vietnam. South Vietnam asked for military assistance and USA gave it.
The General mis-conception is that USA lost in Vietnam which is not true.
From 1963-1968, USA pretty much destroyed the Viet Cong and the climax came during the December 1968 Tet Offensive in which the Viet Cong lost over 100,000 men.
After that the North Vietnamese Army got directly involved in the War.
From 1968-1971, USA and South Vietnam held back North Vietnam.
By this time, USA started to withdraw its forces from Vietnam and giving the lead to the South Vietnamese Army. It held on its own when it beat back another invasion by North Vietnam in 1972.
But in 1973, everything changed.
The Yom Kippur War between Israel and Arabs lead to Oil prices to sky rocket. With the withdrawal of most US forces, the South Vietnamese economy collapsed. High Oil prices limited operations. With a collapsed economy led to high amounts of corruption and thus some Generals and top echelon leaders in South Vietnam defected.
In 1975, North Vietnam launched another invasion of South Vietnam. They expected the campaign to last 2 years, but in 2 months South Vietnam collapsed.
So its not exactly an American defeat.
They attacked Iraq but with 40 other countries.
The only reason for that was that George Bush Sr. knew global diplomacy and thus was successful in building a coalition where as the amount of fighting the coalition did was negligible. If it wasn't for USA, the Coalition allies would not have been able to push Saddam from Kuwait.
They attacked Serbia with Nato fully behind them.
Why not. USA has friends, so why not use them as well ?
In this century, they've attacked Afghanistan (the poorest country on earth at the time) still needing Nato to support them.
Maybe you don't understand the doctrine of NATO. If any country declares war on a NATO country, then its like declaring war on all of them. When Osama attacked usa on 9/11, it was like attacking all of NATO and thus their response.
They attacked Iraq after eroding it's entire armed forces for 12 years under sanctions.
Yup they did. USA doesn't want to see its soldiers coming home in body bags. And I don't think any other country on the planet does as well.
What i'm saying is, Americans only attack countries which are weak, fighting a civial war or are at war with some other country.
America does stuff in what its own vested interests. If that means it is going to attack Iraq and negotiate with North Korea then thats the way its going to be. But don't mistake this bellicose posturing by USA. USA still has the most powerful Military on the planet.
To think that an ever powerfull and proud Iran is one of those weak countries is nonsence.
Iran's Army is obselete. Its Tanks are basically patched up M-60 and T-55 Tanks. Its Air force is totally obselete and it still flies the F-14 Fighters given to it by USA in the 70's. Its Navy has heavily destroyed in 1988 and is no match for the US Navy.
Iran's options are to send suicide bombers and fighters into Iraq and Afghanistan. Use oil as a weapon and use Hezbollah to launch terrorist attacks around the world.
That is the military power of Iran.
