Iran accuses pakistan of suicide attack

DAWN.COM | World | Suicide blast hits Iran?s elite force, up to 42 killed

This is getting really nasty. The last thing you want right now is a ticked off Iran.
This could be a move by the TTP or one of its branches, to pressurize pakistan in these critical times, and divert attention of the security forces to the Pak-Iran border.

Iranian authorities have not even bothered to conduct any investigation etc., they have just raised a finger, point blank, in Pakistan’s direction, accusing that the attacker came from Pakistan, and was a member of Jindullah. And the way they (Iranians) are talking, looks like they mean business.

Re: Iran accuses pakistan of suicide attack

Whats new? Iranians always blame without investigation. They do it even faster than India do and they do it at top level.

Re: Iran accuses pakistan of suicide attack

Its just convenient to blame everything on Pakistan. Maybe Iran wants to show that USA and
Iran share the same struggle against Sunni extremists.

Iran has been saying this for a while. they say that Jundullah is in Pakistan. similarly, China says that their separatists are also hiding in Waziristan.

we need to clean up that area if we want to stop pissing off nations that are friendly with us.

Actually, Iran has blamed US and Britain in supporting this terrorism.
But I think it will be good for Iran if Iran's relations with US are improved. There is no reason why they shouldn't, if there were no Zionists working against it.

Re: Iran accuses pakistan of suicide attack

**Mr Ahmadinejad pointed towards Pakistan. **
**“We were informed that some security agents in Pakistan are co-operating with the main elements of this terrorist incident,” he was quoted as saying by the semi-official Fars news agency. **
“We regard it as our right to demand these criminals from them,” he said,
BBC NEWS | Middle East | Iran accuses Pakistan over attack

normally its been said that us/british agents in pakistan help jundulla but lets wait for clarification. hope pakistan doesnt get attacked from 4 sides in a few weeks time

Re: Iran accuses pakistan of suicide attack

Firstly, I don;t think ISI has anything to gain by bombings in Iran. But there is something behind this blame game.

Forget India blaming ISI for everything.

China has been asking us to crack down on Uighur jihadis operating in FATA. Russia always talks of Chechens training in FATA. UK and US of course blame us all the time. Even some African countries talk about people going to Pakistan for indoctrination and training. Germany was all abuzz with the so called German Taliban terrorists trained in FATA.

We can do two things - one is to deny deny and deny.

Or we can ask ourselves why we have become the global den of jihadi tanzeems of all variety.

It is not good to be blamed by countries who we should have good relations with.

Re: Iran accuses pakistan of suicide attack

^^ Relationship with Iran has always been one-sided affair since the fall of Shah, the mullas in Iran has suppressed the nation and have done everything to isolate themselves from rest of the islamic world.

Iran-Pakistan tensions were at their peak when Taliban were controlling almost 90% of Afghanistan and Northern Alliance was on the back foot, Iran has been accused of sponsoring Shia-based terrorism in Pakistan and they have played an active role in fueling the division between the Shia and Sunni of Pakistan.

Iran has accused everyone for its own problem, earlier ( when Saddam was controlling Iraq) they used to blame him and Iraqies for supporting Jindullah and other militant groups. Now they have shifted the focus from Iraq to Pakistan.

I am not advocating Jindullah, but accusing someone withour any evidence does not make any sense and it would not do any good for Iran, had the ex-president of Pakistan ( Musharaf) agreed to provide Pakistani land to US to attack Iran this irani president might have been part of history.

Most probably these terrorists of Jindullah are operating from Afhgan soil, they can cross the border and they can do the blasts as they have done it now, but Iran's blame game does support the theory that Iran is not amoung the best friends of Pakistan.

Re: Iran accuses pakistan of suicide attack

It is way past time that Pakistan administration and leaders (military in particular) look deep and honest into their philosophy, policies and plans. The 'tiger by tail' problem has become 'numerous tigers by tails' and before long something has to give. I just hope they take the right decision. This is not about army tactics, bombing tribal areas etc. It is about willingness to change their mindsets and the courage to convince the public of erroneous expectations that have been sown and nurtured over decades.

Re: Iran accuses pakistan of suicide attack

hanibal,

How do you about what exactly happenend in the past?

There were reports that one of the Rigi brothers was arrested in Pakistan sometime back and that news went silent. Given that jihadi elements are operating in that broad area and our own sectarian tanzeems are partnered with the Taliban, it is possible that Jundullah people are in Baloch border areas. Have you forgotten that Iran almost declared war on us after Sipah-e-Sahaba goons went alongside Taliban and massacred Iranian diplomats in Mazar-e-Sharif. They were sent there by our brilliant GHQ as "dedicated fighters" without realizing their real sectarian goals.

We must make it clear to Tehran that public accusations will be met with strong counters, but remember that our government promised to work with Iran after the previous attack, but nothing happened.

We have to get real about the "tiger by the tail" problem as Jalaluddin notes above, because jihadi and Takfiri elements have no limits on what causes they support.

Yes, counter Iran's statement strongly but we must take action and take control of our land. Too many jihadi/Takfiri elements from all over the world are using us for their evil causes.

Like Pakistan, Iran is a society that is obsessed with conspiracy theories following foreign control and attempted domination during the old colonial era (when the UK and Russia vied for control).

As a result, they are still looking everywhere for the explanation to their internal issues other than within their own borders.

At least 49 people were killed today, including six high ranking members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, and dozens of others were wounded in a suicide attack in Sistan-Balochistan.

The attack was the deadliest in the region since a May attack on a Shi’ite mosque in the mostly Sunni province. Iran’s state media is reporting that Jundallah has taken credit for today’s attack.
Jundallah is a Baloch separatist group which operates on both the Iranian and Pakistani sides of the border. The group, which once boasted of ties with al-Qaeda, has been supported by the United States since at least 2005.
The exact extent of US backing for Jundallah is a matter of some dispute. Officials who privately acknowledge the relationship insist everything was careful worked to avoid Congressional oversight and that the relationship was “appropriate”, but the captured brother of Jundallah’s leader insists the US directly funded the group and has ordered them to carry out attacks.

In a high profile press conference in the city of Zahedan, Iran, international media gathered to hear a statement from Abdolhamid Rigi, a high ranking member of the Balochi separatist movement Jundallah who is awaiting execution by the Iranian government for his role in a series of murders.

Abdolhamid Rigi

Rigi, whose brother Abdolmalek Rigi is the leader of the militant group, addressed a wide variety of topics and made several claims regarding long-suspected links the group has to various international organizations.
In particular, Rigi confirmed that Jundallah previously had ties with al-Qaeda for operations in Pakistan, and that the groups split in 2003 over differences of opinion about strategy in Iran. Not long after severing its ties with al-Qaeda, the group started a relationship with the United States government.
That fact has never been disputed, indeed US officials have repeatedly confirmed that the government has secretly encouraged and advised Jundallah as it fights the Iranian government. But Rigi insisted the US ties went well beyond encouragement.
Rigi insisted that five years ago when the relationship began the US government gave the group $100,000 and promised to provide it with “everything we needed.” He also claimed that the US was directing the group’s attacks, saying “they told us whom to shoot and whom not to. All orders came from them.”
Previously US officials had insisted the government was deliberately avoiding direct funding to avoid Congressional oversight, but the Bush Administration did funnel considerable money into “covert” operations against the Iranian government. As Jundallah has been launching high profile suicide bombings for years, any verification of direct US funding or ordering of the movement is likely to produce a considerable scandal.

TEHRAN (Reuters) – The head of Iran's Revolutionary Guards on Monday vowed to "retaliate" against the United States and Britain after accusing them of backing the perpetrators of a suicide bombing that killed six Guards commanders.
Iranian media say the Sunni Muslim insurgent group Jundollah (God's soldiers) has claimed responsibility for Sunday's bombing in Sistan-Baluchestan province, which killed 42 people in all.
The incident threatened to overshadow talks between Iran and global powers in Vienna on Monday intended to tackle a standoff about Iran's nuclear ambitions.
Guards commander-in-chief Mohammad Ali Jafari said Iranian security officials had presented documents indicating "direct ties" from Jundollah to U.S., British and, "unfortunately," Pakistani intelligence organizations, the ISNA news agency said.
"Behind this scene are the American and British intelligence apparatus, and there will have to be retaliatory measures to punish them," Jafari was quoted as saying.
Jundollah, which has been blamed for many attacks since 2005 in the desert province bordering Pakistan, says it is fighting to end discrimination against Sunni Muslims by Iran's dominant Shi'ites. Its leader is Abdolmalek Rigi.
"This person himself and his plans are undoubtedly under the umbrella and the protection of these (U.S., British and Pakistani) organizations," Jafari said.
              "TRAINED BY U.S. AND BRITAIN"
Iranian television quoted General Mohammad Pakpour, commander of the Guards' ground forces, whose deputy was killed in the bombing, as saying:
"The base of the terrorists and rebels has not been in Iran. They are trained by America and Britain in some of the neighboring countries."
The United States, Pakistan and Britain have all condemned the bombing, the bloodiest attack in Iran since the 1980-88 war with Iraq, and denied involvement.
"We reject in the strongest terms any assertion that this attack has anything to do with Britain," said a spokeswoman at Britain's Foreign Office. "Terrorism is abhorrent wherever it occurs."
The bombing of a mosque in Zahedan, capital of Sistan-Baluchestan, reportedly also claimed by Jundollah, killed 25 people in May.
The underdeveloped desert province, mostly populated by Sunni Muslims, borders both Pakistan and Afghanistan and has frequently been the scene of clashes between security forces, ethnic Baluch Sunni insurgents and heavily-armed drug smugglers.
The victims of the bombing in the city of Sarbaz included two employees of the state broadcaster IRIB, the company said, and number of tribal chiefs who were due to hold a meeting with the Guards to promote Shi'ite-Sunni unity. The Guards said the attack was aimed at fomenting sectarian strife.
              VIENNA TALKS
The incident raised tension between Iran and major powers ahead of nuclear talks at the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna.
On the agenda was a proposal that Iran send low enriched uranium abroad for further enrichment, to be used in a reactor where it produces medical isotopes.

Ali Shirzadian, spokesman for Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, said on Monday that Tehran would carry out the supplementary enrichment itself if there was no agreement in its talks with Russia, France and the United States.
Analysts say Iran’s governing hardliners may use the bombing incident as an excuse to further clamp down on moderate opponents of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, whose disputed re-election in June sparked huge opposition protests.
The Guards force, whose influence has increased since Ahmadinejad came to power in 2005, played a key role in suppressing the street protests after the election.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev offered Moscow’s cooperation in fighting terrorism and extremism in a letter to Ahmadinejad, Medvedev’s press service said.
“We are ready to cooperate with Iran in countering these threats,” he wrote.
Ahmadinejad urged Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari in a telephone call to help find the perpetrators of the attack, Iran’s IRNA news agency reported.
Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdul Basit told the Daily Times newspaper: “Pakistan is not involved in terrorist activities … we are striving to eradicate this menace.”
Pakistan has backed armed Sunni Muslim groups in the past, particularly in Afghanistan.
Relations between Iran and Pakistan have been generally good in recent years and the neighbors are cooperating on plans to build a natural gas pipeline link. But Iran has in the past said Jundollah members have been operating out of Pakistan.
Some analysts believe Jundollah has evolved through shifting alliances with parties including the Taliban and Pakistan’s ISI intelligence service, who saw it as a tool to use against Iran.

Re: Iran accuses pakistan of suicide attack

^^ and if Iran is stupid enough to launch any attacks...the US/British response will destroy Iran

you would think so, but retaliate is a very broad word

Re: Iran accuses pakistan of suicide attack

This is fascinating how USA and his cronies actively support terrorism in other countries, everyone knows that but they ALWAYS get away with that, and not only this.. they even manage to emerge as victims at the end!

How do they only manage to do that? Any thoughts?

I think in the modern world the most lethal and active weapon is "Media".

Re: Iran accuses pakistan of suicide attack

^^ and do you have any proof of these allegations?
