I think we should make fun of him on his day.
Or
Praise him on December 25th, the Jinnah day. ![]()

With all due respect, that is what we have already started doing it anyways. And we feel proud about our humor, on top of it.

Yes. Really sad to see it.
Greatness of Iqbal lies in his early work to lay down what is Pakistan today. Not that he meant to create 'Pakistan'
at all.
His poetry and philosophy is uniuque in many ways. One of the many genius people.
Re: Iqbal Day
I repeat my question
Is it necessary to praise him ?
Let us discuss him

Is it wrong to praise him?
What do you want to discuss about Iqbal (which is actually a better idea, I admit)?

I have many time asked by one of my friends in Karachi that Iqbal was not much big name in Independence movement. You people only promote him because you have no name any where. (My being Punjabi sometimes ......)
They were also very critic of his personal charterer .
Will you like to discuss ?
Re: Iqbal Day

Why be so sensitive my dear, about him?
Who said it was 'necessary' that you had to ask?
It is a day to remember him or who he was. That's all. He might have some weaknesses, but people have a right to praise him for his goodness.

That's a very bias view.
Would you like to discuss his poetry, his involvment in Freedom fight, his struggle to bring Jinnah in Muslim League, his vision of a separate nation-state as he delivered in his famous speech of Ilah Abad in 1930?
Re: Iqbal Day
Iqbal is National poet of many countries . According to Iran citizens ," the revolution In Iran (Islami Inqlab) is due to Iqbal and today status of Iran is due to Iqbal"
Iranians usually do not know him at all. It's not that his poetry is non-existent. It is just that he is not as much well known as to be declared the reason of revolution in Iran.
Ask any Iranian about Eghbale Lahori.
I know Iqbal was not an extremist. But some of his poetry urges Muslims to wage holy war.
"mullah ki azan aur, mujahid ki azan aur".
"ye ghazi ye tere pur-israar banday, jinhein tu ne bakhsha he zauq e khudai. Do neem inn ki thokar se sehra o darya, simat kar pahaar inn hi hebat se raai".
He probably did not know that such views will eventually lead to current crisis of Talibanic fanaticism among Muslims.
Re: Iqbal Day
How many of u know that Iqbal's grand father was a hindu kashmiri pandit (brahmin)? Their original last name/surname was Sapru... a common kashmiri pandit last name.
He was no pakistani and as such he should not be held in high esteem as Quiad.
Re: Iqbal Day
He was not in to sufi-ism as much. Nor he wanted people to sit back and be rolled all over.
If anyone misinterprets his poetry then it is not his fault.
People misinterpret Quran all the time. (Not that I mean his poetry is similar to Quran)

I admire your logic (pun intended, ofcourse)
Maybe Justice (Retd.) Javed Iqbal should realize that he is no longer a muslim based on this logic.

What is going on with our logic these days? I am quite appalled to see such gems coming from our own people.
To equate the words of Iqbal, which were nothing but mostly derivatives of Islamic theology, with Talabanic fanaticism is not fair. We all know that such teachings are also part and parcel of the religion Islam but no where in the actual text, resides the extreme version that we see in Talibanic fasadis.
It's funny to think that they took inspiration from Iqbal.
Re: Iqbal Day
^ Don’t worry, some people have a habit of doing that. Mixing everything with Talibans.
Even if the discussion would be about garden/roses/poetry/computer science etc., Taliban Kharjis will mysteriously appear in some people’s minds. ![]()
Re: Iqbal Day
Thank you Now I will surprise you Yesterday one of my friends a retired A officer told me abut a leader who claims to be the most honest person ( I hope no problem to understand and if you will see him now ,you will know the truth ) uses hashish and .......... that is normal . Really Idiotistan
What has hashish to do with being honest? Pasha Sab, as long as a guy is not raping the country, its good enough.
About Iqbal... well, no need to praise. Just try and understand a little bit. Talk about ghairat and khudi.. and we have a situation where even our cricket team has to prove innocence before being cleared to play for the world cup.

Weakness : Killing on Kothah including all other weaknesses
Khutbah Allahabad 1930.
Sir Syed Ahmed Khan said it decades before.
Pakistan was named before this

Sir, where are you getting all your facts?
1) Killing on Kothah (as you put it) and all other weaknesses: How did you come to know about it and kindly elaborate on "all other weaknesses"
2) Khutbah Allahabad 1930.
Sir Syed Ahmed Khan said it decades before. : Did you just make it up? Sir Syed never asked for a separate nation-state. Instead what he preached for was for muslims to get western education along with the command on English.
3) Pakistan was name before this: Unless 1934 comes before 1930 in your dictionary :D because this term was coined by Choudhary Rehmat Ali in 1934 in his famous article named "Now or Never"
4) don't include great Qauid e Azam in this discussion: do you know the views of Quaid e Azam about Iqbal, especailly about the fact that Iqbal pursued him to come back and join Muslim League after he left India for Europe due to his disappointment in All India Congress, which he was initially part of and wanted a united India to begin with?
Re: Iqbal Day
Sir Syed never asked for a separate nation-state.
was not he one of the creators/founders of two nation theory?
Re: Iqbal Day
was not he one of the creators/founders of two nation theory?
Agreed.
He did indeed propose the two-nation theory that later inspired the idea of separate nation-state as the founding principle, but he did not propose a separate state within india. He presented the theory for equal rights of Indian Muslims due to various incidents that happened and had predicted that Hindi was to take over as official language and one prominent incident where members of his scientific society wanted the publication to be published in Hindi.
