IPL auction: Pakistani players ignored

When Pakistani player come to play in IPL ... they come as individuals to come and take part in an event. So their security is the responsibilty of the people who invite them .... their respective teams. But when Pakistan teamS will visit India for world cupS ..... their security will be Indian government responsibilty.

IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANTI PAKISTANI FEELING.

Plz try to understand the whole thing.

Although I do agree that IPL officials didnt act in a responsible way. Pakistani players shouldnt have been included in auction list in first place.

The main hurdle in including Pakistani players was law and order situation. Most of the matches had to be played in Mumbai and there could be serious troubles by presence of Pakistani players.

But whatever happened is unfortunate for cricket in this part of the world.

Sorry to burts your bubble but BCCI is a private sporting body and claims that "it has nothing to do with govt" although it has everything to do with Govt and can provide security in IPL just like in WC.

BCCI does not provide security .... it is the government of India that provides security on the request of BCCI. Now why would government of India provide security for players playing in a private league in India, they are not representing Pakistan. When Pakistan's national side visits India it becomes imperative for them to provide security after all they are not in India because BCCI has invited them.

so you think IPL and BCCI are two separate bodies? sure you can come up with all "technical" reasoning of how these two are separate entities but fact remains that same that IPL = BCCI. Anyways....there is no point getting into this.

Firstly Cricket is regulated under the auspices of ICC not UN. BCCI is a member of ICC not the indian Govt. BCCI & it is the responsibility of BCCI to ensure the safety of cricketers & it is backed by the indian Govt., but ICC only deals with BCCI,
Now IPL is regulated by BCCI , & therefore is also responsible for the security of cricketers playing in IPL. Therefore, if it cannot ensure the security of one countries cricketers in one league it cannot be trusted to ensure their security in the worldcup.

As for the role of indian Govt & IPL Can you please answer why did the IPL was moved from India to South Africa Last Year , was it not because of the elections 2009.
check this out may be you will recall something

Ignoring Pakistani players very shocking: former Foreign Secretaries

“While the Indian government distanced itself from the ignoring of Pakistani players in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, former Foreign Secretaries criticised the incident as ‘very shocking’ and ‘unnecessary.’”

Perhaps this confusion is because of your lack of understandiong of sports governing bodies. It is not only cricket, no sport is regulated by UN. Infact most of the sporting events are governed by individual sporting bodies which don't like interference by any government. So let us get that out of the way.

Same way BCCI is an independent entity which request govenment for security of events. Now it is upto the Indian government or respective governemnts to provide security as they deem fit. If the event is of international nature where teams representing countries are taking part, then the government does / has to provide security. But IPL is an event where "local teams" are playing .... so if Afridi and co want to take part in the event, it will be the responsibilty of the respective clubs to provide security.

This issue was not handled properly by IPL and that is why there has been a lot of "heat" even in India. But to say that somehow there is a conspiracy is far fetched.

The only reason one would try to mix politics with sport is when one CAN NOT beat the opponent on the sport, and doesnt think that opponent can be beaten in ground.

Thanks for acknowledging that, that makes you my favorite indian poster here, the one who has openely admitted to the in-ability to beat Pak with the cricketers and cricketing spirits on ground thus had to involve politics in it.

Going by your logic - is that why Pakistan government did not give permission to their players last year

Cricketers stopped from going to India for IPL -DAWN - Top Stories; February 03, 2009

In any case Afridi and Co were going to play for Mumbai or Kolkata or Bengaluru … so really Indians wouldn’t have been bothered who won or lost !!!

In the desire to play the victim here, no one has focused on the root cause of this issue

India says it plays fair, gave visas to Pak players

New Delhi: Rejecting Pakistan’s suspicions about New Delhi’s hand in the absence of Pakistani cricketers from the Indian Premier League (IPL), India on Thursday asked Pakistan to introspect on the “reasons which have put a strain on bilateral ties” and clarified that 17 Pakistani players had been given visas.

“Blaming the government for the absence of Pakistani players from the next edition of IPL is unfortunate,” the External Affairs Ministry said in a statement in New Delhi.

“Pakistan should introspect on the reasons which have put a strain on relations between India and Pakistan, and have adversely impacted on peace, stability and prosperity in the region,” the Ministry said.

The Government also rebutted reports about Pakistani players not getting Indian visas. “Such apprehension is completely misplaced,” the Ministry said.

The Ministry clarified that 17 Pakistani cricketers were issued Indian visas at very short notice in December 2009 and January this year to participate in IPL 2010.
“Two visas were issued in Islamabad, while three were issued in Wellington (New Zealand) and 12 in Sydney (Australia), where the concerned Pakistani cricketers had applied while touring New Zealand and Australia, respectively,” the Ministry said.

Based on a request from the Pakistan Cricket Board to the High Commission of India in Islamabad, the Ministry said it facilitated necessary clearances from other ministries in India.

As Pakistan escalated rhetoric over the perceived snub to Pakistani cricketers, External Affairs Minister SM Krishna said: "(The) government has nothing to do with IPL, on selection of players and various exercises that are connected with it.

“So, Pakistan will have to draw a line between where government of India is connected and where government of India is an actor,” he told reporters when asked about the strong words used by Pakistani leaders linking New Delhi to the non-selection of Pakistani cricketers by IPL team owners.

Krishna was responding to a question on Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik’s remarks that the manner in which the Pakistani players were “insulted” showed that India was not serious about the peace process.

Krishna’s clarification came a day after Pakistan’s National Assembly Speaker Fehmida Mirza announced in the National Assembly the decision not to send any parliamentary delegation to India to protest the “treatment meted out” to the country’s cricketers in the IPL tournament.

Furious over the surprise rejection of Pakistani cricketers, Malik told some TV channels in Pakistan: "India or any other country that does not give respect to Pakistan will be treated the same way by us.

“If there is a desire to improve Indo-Pakistan friendship, respect should be given to Pakistani sportspersons,” Malik said.

Have you read my original Post ???? Where did I mention of Any Conspiracy...infact I believe the PCB handled the case poorly & should have been more proactive in anticipating this; failing that they should have been more swift to ensure players dont vent their loss of financial opportunity in Public.....

All I was arguing was that hosting of worldcup is taken away from Pakistan because of security concern, but there are also security concerns for Pakistanis in many venues in India..., major potential threats from MNS , Shiv Sena type people in Mumbai..., this instance also prooves Indian authorities are unwilling to ensure safety of Pakistani Players either out of their inability or out of their bias..., whatever the reason based on this premise of differential security provision towards pakistan I believe our board has a strong case to pressure moving the worldcup final out of India

So if the visas were already given then what was the issue? The franchises just hypothesized that something might happen before the start of IPL 3 which will cause some political unstability and Pakistan cricketers will not travel to India???

And Mr. Modi Chairman of IPL and Vice President of BCCI says that he had no idea that franchise will not going to bid for Pakistani players. He is so masoom. Next he’ll say that had he known he would have told franchises not to worry since all the Pakistani players already have got visas.

This thread has become the second largest thread in Cricketnama in two days .... not becuase Afridi and Co haven't been selected ...... it has becuase a lot of people view this as some kind of conspiracy to keep Pakistan out. As you rightly said ... it is a matter of a financial loss of a few cricketers and the inept handing by IPL authrites ... nothing more !!!

India provides security to Pakistan national cricket team on tour, it does not provide security to individuals who want to visit to make some money playing for local club. Next you know Shoib Akhtar will ask for security when he is doing ads in India :D

Dulicate Post

Past experience .... Pakistan had banned its players from going for IPL 2 last year ... after giving NOC !!!!

As a franchise you would not like to be stuck with a dud (not talking about cricketing ability) when it came to matches .... no show by Pakistani players would have meant that the crucial overseas player bench strength would be reduced !!!

Re: IPL auction: Pakistani players ignored

don't mean to cry crocodile tears but I do wonder if the death of a Pakistani soldier at the border warrants a boycott from our parliamentarians more or does the inability of Pak players to land IPL contracts warrant it more. a Pakistani soldier dying means that a family has not only lost a son/husband/father/brother but also lost its possibly sole source of income. a family has been irreversibly damaged and scarred. I think that is worthy of more national grief, outrage, sympathy than is the inability of already overpaid players to become even more overpaid.

I have a lot of respect for Ayaz Amir. he's one of my favorite politicians... but surely the death of the Pakistani soldier at the hands of Indians deserves more outrage than the exclusion of Pak players from an Indian domestic league. it's their prerogative to play who they want... they should have dealt with them with more grace and professionalism but I don't consider it the national disrespect that people like Afridi are painting it as.

so, I'm sorry but I can't identify with Afridi's selfish bakwaas...

So does that mean India is afraid of playing against this substandard Pakistan team :cb:

What a strange logic!! So England and Australia boycotted Zimbabwe for the same reason?

Re: IPL auction: Pakistani players ignored

its good pakistanis r banned from IPL we dont want players from a country who always tries to hurt India-pakistanis should have some self respect and keep away from IPL-

Why did you list them than? We also dont want to play flat track bullies either or people who are always undermining our country everywhere.
