My MIL came to live with us for a year when we were still fairly newly married. It was a two bedroom one bathroom apartment (in America where the walls are extremely thin). The bathroom was out in the hall, the bedrooms were right next to each other. It was hell on earth for me, and it's probably why my MIL and I didn't get along so well during that time and why my husband and I went through the worst period of our marriage (a lot of resentment on my part)

There was no privacy at all and everything had to be very calculated. Normally, she would go to bed before us, but when we went to the bedroom, we had to be extra quiet, to the point that we would turn on the ACs in the rooms just for the noise despite the fact it was snowing outside! Truth is, you cannot be as free as you want. Yes, some of you here are like well, parents expect their married kids to be intimate. But it is extremely embarrassing if some noise was to get out and not acceptable in our culture. What's worse was that a new couple moved into an apartment right above ours and they were so loud, you could probably hear them in the next state. Our next door neighbors could hear them, that's how loud they were. And I'm sure my MIL heard them as well. She would pretend that she didn't, but you couldn't deny it. I really don't understand why she insisted on staying that whole year especially when it wasn't necessary and our home wasn't really set up for guests. I guess she was trying to reinforce her alpha status to her son, almost a "zidh" that I'm going to be here no matter how much it affects your married life.

For the first poster, it's only a month...you'll get through it, but if you mother has any sense, I can guarantee she'll shorten her visits in the future, or insist you visit her instead.

honey that couple was god-send. U missed the opportunity. All you had to do was synchronize with that new couple. then what ever noise you guys made would have been blamed on them.

I know man…then wodden floors. If floor goes chee chee even once… I would not be able to see my FIL in the eyes for rest of my life.

This thread reminds me of this family we know where two married brothers share a house, plus the parents. One brother’s family and his three children ages around 9, 8, and 4 share a room (yes all of them). Other brother has a little older children ages between 14 and 7 (not sure of their sleeping arrangement but I know they don’t have any extra bedrooms.

Leaves you wondering when, where and how the two couples go for you know what. :halo:

I know, as I suggested in another thread: Put on some war movie… or something.

They don’t have to do it as if it seems like there is a porno flick going on.

That usually is a problem in apartment homes and if you live next to blacks… they like to do it on beds that have boards on them and then bang the headboards against the wall to tell the neighbor they are actually doing something. I know a few people who would go through this nice treatment every other night!!!
