internship

i had been called for interview in a well known company.i didn’t had any experience before.so the interviewer asked few questions.i replied them but not in a professional way. he said u have potential to work with us but as u don’t have any experience.so u have to work as an internee+trainee for one month without salary.that was quiet reasonable for me because i didn’t had any work experience before.now its been about 2 weeks they are not training me like i was expecting .just learn few things that were like as a by product of that job and training.now i don’t know what to do. do i have to leave that company ?or talk to the boss?(as i have already gone through it)really too confused :frowning:

Re: internship

I have worked both as internee and trainee and both the time I got paid though the stipend of internee is very low but they pay you , at the time I did my intern ship it was in 2004 I got Rs 400-500 per week. They are not paying you that a very bad point to begin with and it should be addressed ......how come HR is ok with it ?

About training some days will be very good and some days will be boring . Usually the employees are not very kind with internee or a trainee because they are like a potential threat to them and they don't want them to learn what they know so they most probably won't teach you their skills but all people are not alike and you will meet some good people as well. Hang in there it will be a tough period for you and many a times you will have to do things that should not be given to you considering your education but just be patient and make use of what u get.

if u like u can PM me about the company u r working for may be I can give u some advice or feedback.

Re: internship

yes it is a bad thing they said they wont pay for this...i m the only female in this department.people working here are not friendly.manager is quiet good...he helps me in all the learning process...and yes you are right they are not kind..the person i will gonna replace is not even helpful....he doesn't even talk to me....that is something i dont like because no friendly atmosphere with new ones.its a telecom company.what about HR dept. do i have to contact them?

Re: internship

can u Pm me which company u were?

Re: internship

If you are in Pakistan then I agree that many companies don't offer a paid-internship. Many of my friends have been working as internees in very well-known media channels for many months but they didn't offer them job nor did they pay them. so, it's common, internees are usually treated as extras, that's reality. But if they asked to join the company for one month then it should be one month. Did you talk to the HR manager of your company about it? It's your right to talk to them and asked them what have they decided about you.

Re: internship

this is perfectly normal........... hang on........ you are getting the ''experience'' which will help u get a job..........

its tough to enter a job.......especially when you are not getting paid for it :D

Re: internship

in the start they said we will offer u that job u applied but now the manager said we wont promise job...u have to work hard....i know i have flows but still its nt like that i cant do this job...but don't know whats in their mind :(.....if i have to talk about HR what should i say....
P.S when the manager told the director about me he said oh y u assigning a female...they are not committed to work and all

Re: internship

yeah may b thats y i m confused :D...but if i get any as surety about job then its OK for me

Re: internship

and if no surety.......you will leave it and sit home??

its better to gain experience and actually learn something too......even if you are not getting paid for it....especially if its a good company..

this is the equation..

  1. experience+money = actual job 2.experieence+ No money = interntship 3.No experience + No money = sit at home....

so........my advice is....... wait for a couple of more weeks.......to see if they hire u on the job......if they don't........u start looking elsewhere, while continuing the current internship....

Re: internship

yesss that is may be i should do...i want to know can i apply for other jobs while still i m on internship????

Re: internship

I guess they hired you that too without pay because there was no female in the department and they liked to add some color to that dull environment.
Keep your eyes and ears open. Make sure you learn a thing or two from that co-operative manager and when time comes move on gracefully to some other opportunity.

Re: internship

yes...who is stopping you??

Re: internship

2 weeks is a very short time to make a decision about your job. Spend at-least a couple of months before you decide to leave or continue.

Re: internship

:(

Re: internship

internships are normally mundane, repetitive and majority of them unpaid. Also, ur really lucky to get an internship given the current job market. They could have just hired someone with a bit of experience. It would have cost them a lot less. The more active stuff comes a year or two down the line

Re: internship

no it feels like i m in "Balbrahamchari" environment :p......in fact other workers don't talk to me :D

Re: internship

what to write in resume about it?

Re: internship

i dont know much about internship but my sis got a job recently as cadetship and they are paying her good money. infact her pay is better than my bro's first job and she is also offered great incentives.

you should also be aware that employers do not train and dont like to train anyone. this is my experience. its costly to them.

you should wait few more weeks and try to get gud experience and than talk to the person who hired you.

Re: internship

yes but will only spend a month here....because transportation expenses and all counts to me

Re: internship

do i have to wait for a year :(
