Re: International food day

oh iv just read uv already decided.. well i like to put my tuppence worth in..

Re: International food day

Afia, sorry I misunderstood. Can you post the recipe for gulab jamun please?

Re: International food day

there u go sarah :)

you will need :

powdered milk ............1 cup
flour.............................1/2 cup
semolina (sooji)...........2 Tbsp.
baking powder............1/2 Tbsp.
cream..........................150 ml.
oil................................1/2 to 1 Tbsp.
(original recipe calls for 2 tbsp. oil but i think it makes the mixture quite fragile ....so i tend to add just a bit more than half tbsp.)

for sugar syrup:
sugar...........................1.5 cup
water...........................2 cups
cardamom....................optional

first of all prepare the sugar syrup ....bring sugar n water to boil n then slow down the heat .....!after a few minutes remove from stove
in the mean time mix the ingredients of first mixture....shape them in small balls..
heat oil in a skillet ...deep fry the balls on very slow flame so they r thoroughly n evenly cooked
when the balls turn golden brown take them out n add to syrup .....let the balls absorb the syrup for sometime n then serve!

:)

Re: International food day

samosay :k: Americans love samosas and eat’em up like crazy.

Re: International food day

afia,,, how many gulab jamans would this make?
whenever i make gulab jamans, its hard to fit gulab jamans in the sheera
ans 2 cups sheera sounds like ur only making 8 gulab jamans

Re: International food day

She’s right…Cholay are always a hit, with goras.

Re: International food day

I would buy a box of gulaab jaman and gajjar wali mithai mix 4 kilo. Should be good enough.

Re: International food day

kaka...depending on the size.....it makes 20-26 !!
the best thing about this recipe is ...sheera is just enough for it n excess doesn't go to waste :)

Re: International food day

Must be quite interesting to make/cook things for kids school events. Gulab Janum is a good option, even my colleagues love them. HaHa that reminds me to make some for them. I will try out this recipe of yours.

BTW for creme can I take 'Schlagobers' ?

Re: International food day

saadia ....yes i take 'sclagsahne' .....its usually a 200 ml. 'becher' :)

Re: International food day

Re: International food day

Afia, can I substitute Milk for Schlagsahne/Cream ?

Re: International food day

FYI, Schlagsahne and Schlagobers is the same thing. It’s just that the first term is used in Germany and the second one in Austria.

Re: International food day

lol, Umer I know, but I dont want to use Schlagsahne/Schlagobers/Cream, due to 25% of Fat in it, as to Milk only 3 % Fat, due to health reasons, that's why I'm asking.

BTW hows Wify doing? Hope everything is going well.

Re: International food day

^^ Yeah. She's doing fine. And I just read your good news in your journal. Mubarak ho!

Re: International food day

Well thanks ! :)
