You are not Punjabi, are you? I didn’t know either it was considered bad to call someone Paindu before I got married. My inlaws are Punjabi and I learned from them that people get offended if you flat out tell them they are paindu. It’s kind of like how they turned the word “Paki” into a racial slur in Europe.
