Is it some new desi thing that some people at a certain age discover that there is something different out there known as atheism ? They think it is cool and in fashion to be an atheist .
They want to announce to the whole desi community. " I am an atheist , thanks God that I am an atheist. "

They also have a notion that all the people who believe in religion are nerds , geeks , stupid , idiots , illogical and so out of touch with their times. 
They also think that religious people are low life and on the lowest level of totem pole of humanity and could never be high achievers in life. The only way to be successful in this world is to get rid of religion and they tell everyone that their belief in religion is cause of all the evils in this world.
Am I correct ? If yes why is it so ?

hmm I dont see anything wrong with Atheism. Its simply a state of mind different from the main stream global population. I don't know how hareem01 can put forward such a claim unless he/she is trolling.

depending on the group that you move in socially, you may be exposed to this culture of making oneself feel "special" by vocally expressing your "non-chalance" if you will, towards a superior power.
kind of like rebelling from authority when you are a teenager......

We'll face many different people with different ideologies... and regardless what they say or said in other posts, instead of getting all wound up and feel disappointed and angry, i guess we should just take a hike... take things a bit more lightly, and convey our side of the story in a more acceptable fashion.

Well, recent survey in New Zealand showed that there were like 40 % people out of all, who don't believe in the existence of God. And very few believed to have fancied any religion.

There are people out there who logically question Gods existence and would acknowledge/appreciate valid arguments against their beleifs.
And then there is class of people that Mirch para is talking about, those who are complete idiots and yet try to play intellectual.

Very few desi people know that "yeah kiss churia ka naam hay" therefore I have not come across an agnostic desi show off yet.
Mirch I find these people really annoying.
Last month my friend from pakistan was visiting with her husband. She unluckily married into a “royal foo foos of pakistan” family
So my hubby asked while taking them to dinner - “Do you guys eat zabihah”
Her hubby says “do you mean like religion stuff” 
he acted very arrogrant and pompous when we didn’t order from the wine list and again - “why because religion say so” another
I think my friend was even embarrased by his behavior
I wonder if sometimes life hands them lemons or they get sick or something happens that they don’t have control over - unhein Allah yaad aata hai ya nahin?

I know many [muslim by birthright] people who think that religion is an archaic practice and that they are too “maadrin” to hold such beliefs… but i’ve never heard them classify themselves as athiests…
Whatevs…each to their own…we all go to our own grave…or pot of ash…or cryogenic freezer.
