INS registration (merged)

5 more countries added in the list, Kuwait, Indonesia, Jordan, Bangladesh, and Egypt. Looks like they will include all muslim countries slowly and steadily.

Good old saying "a bail mujay mar"

and now they have also started including other friends of theirs like egypt, and kuwait... :) if the americans think that this way they will get rid of the terrorists, i am not sure... he, who's gonna carry out activities like these will not come forward to register...and they have forged documents...so how much, and for how long will they be keeping an eye on every muslim of the planet...thats second to impossible...anyways, let them enjoy... :)

Ah, what an experience.

I got my registration done yesterday. The process was simple and easy, thanks to the lady officier, took me about 15 minutes to fill out the application. All of you gotta to do is bring your Social Security Card, Driving License, HB-1/I-20 forms, Passport, etc. Not much people showed up, though approx. 10,000 Pakistanis alone live in L.A. It’s probably just that people don’t like to go on the first day. Btw, there has been a rumor going that Pakistan has been taken off from the INS Special Registration list.

Because of not much crowd, I was done within 25 minutes. Application was easy to fill out but way to lengthy.

If your status is legal, then you’re just fine. People who got detained during the first phase of the registration, didn’t have legal papers or overstayed in the United States. Honestly, INS officials’ behavior depends on your status i.e Are you legal or illegal?

A Pakistani Student has been detained because of not paying College Loans of $2000. He is a first Pakistani to be detained by the INS, though, got valid papers. I don’t what’s the deal with this.

I had the pleasure to go thru the registration being done for the elites today .. I had read Missiouri was the busiest state for registration but when I went there at 9 a.m there were 2 Pakistanis who had drove for 3 hrs from some area.. wait was 20 minutes.. form was quater of a page long (PT dunno what u filled) and contained only parents name , address , phone no. and ages or date of births.. current address, educational ins if ur student or work place address and phone no.. they take ur passport at first.. young chick was polite at registration adn only asked my hi-b approval form and a credit card.. not even job letter or drivers licence.. just oath I was free.. took 15 min.. so please rush now and avoid those jams at the end..

Brother Degas,

Hopefully, I filled out the same application as you did. :) Btw, they did check my Driving License, Credit Card and HB-1 Form.

i went their on the first day. hardly took 10 mins. The gentleman who took my "so called" interview was very nice. I really won't call it an interview. you just have to answer some questions, some of which another member mentioned in the previous post.

i really didn't wanted to give my cc no., as i thought it was personal. besides that, i just submitted my passport, driving license and enrollment letter.

i have seen most pakistani students are worried to register cause' they have worked illegally one way or the other. And on top of that they used their own ss no to do that.

I also got the registration done today, wasnt a big deal really... They asked a bunch of informative questions like eye color, drivers license no. etc, and the INS lady was very polite and joked alot... The only thing that bothers me is that she didnt mention any specific departure ports for me in the end, as I heard they are asking people to leave/enter the country in specific ports of entries...

Whats a HB-1 form?? Are you a student? I am one too, but I dont recall filling an HB-1 form???

So who cares if the jamadaars are earning more?

Btw, dont be surprised if India is added to the list sooner or later, as there are rumours it will be added in the next few batches.

Spock,

I'm on HB-1 visa now. When I first came to the US, I had F-1 status. Plus, you don't have to fill out an HB-1 form. You have to show them evidence of being in the United States. :)

What's the deal with departure Spock? Are you planning to go back to Pakistan after graduation?

HB-1? I guess its a different kind of visa. Most people I know are on H-1B visa which is work visa for highly technical / parhay likhay kinda people.

^^ also check the ins website. they perhaps would have this info too. most of the info the reg. officer went through has been mentioned on ins's site.

i remember reading somewhere that after you have been registered, your passport would be stamped or something like that. the only change i noticed was a statement saying "special resgistrant blah blah" on the back of my i-94 form.

b/w the port thing is only applicable when you leave the U.S

Is that the work visa typically called the H1 visa?

Yes. Its called an H visa or H-1B

There are different kinds within H… e.g H-1A are for nurses… only H-1B is for professionals (engineers, accountants and other highly qualified people), so thats what most non-immigrants get when they get a job in USA. Click here for a complete list of visa categories.

IT MAY BE OF INTEREST TO KNOW THAT pAKISTAN GOVT. IS SUPPORTIVE OF ALL THAT INS IS DOING NO MATTER HOW HUMILATING OR HARASSING IT MAY SEEM ON A PERSONAL OR INDIVIDUAL BASIS. :TEAR2: :frowning: :((

Mr. Zahid Ghani [email protected]
incidentally, he`s the brother-in-law of Waqar Hasan, the Texas grocer
killed in a hate crime after 9/11:

rediff.com Special: Mian Zahid Ghani holds the American media responsible for his brother-in-law's death ]

Govt reacts to Pak journalist`s remarks

ISLAMABAD: The government has angrily reacted to an anti-American
government statement by a New York-based Pakistani journalist at a press
conference, which was widely covered by American media. Journalist Mian
Zahid Ghani had blasted US action of raiding Pakistani businesses and
residences, arresting hundreds and deporting a large number to Pakistan.
He protested against the new INS registration law for Pakistanis and had
described the White American Christians as terrorists.A senior Foreign
Office official told SANA that the government contacted Zahid Ghani and
warned him against violating the government foreign policy about the United
States, which is against the national interests. The official said
Pakistani strongly believed in freedom of expression, but national interest
was the countrys top priority. "We not only want to maintain but develop Pak-US relations and such irresponsible statements could harm bilateral relations."It may be pointed out that in a community gathering at the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington, Ghani put a harsh question to Ambassador Ashraf Jehangir Qazi and said that the US was not Pakistans
friend. The meeting was covered by American media and a two-hour recording
was shown by CSPAN TV.
