Inodensian Airliner avoids Indian test missile

What stupidity on the part of the Indian’s. The idiots could have killed over 400 Muslim pilgrims in their little missle games. Pathetic.

Airliner ‘avoids’ Indian missile

An Indonesian passenger jet was forced to turn round in Indian airspace to avoid a nuclear-capable missile test flight, the Indonesian government says. The Indonesian foreign ministry has demanded an explanation from the India over the incident. Officials from Garuda airlines say they received no advance notice of the test. The Indian government says it successfully test-fired the Agni-III surface-to-surface missile off the country’s eastern coast on Thursday. ‘Great expense’ “Usually closed airspace is alerted to international authorities but the fact is, our plane flew and had to return,” Indonesian foreign ministry spokesman Kristiarto Legowo told reporters in Jakarta. **“We will summon India’s diplomat here soon to seek official clarification,” he said. “We have to make sure this does not happen in the future.” The Garuda airliner was carrying 413 Muslim pilgrims from the capital, Jakarta, to Saudi Arabia, when the Indian control tower told pilots the missile had been launched, said Ari Sapari, the national carrier’s director. “We were not given any advance warning about this missile test,” he told the AP news agency. “This was obviously confusing and worrying. It also caused us to disrupt an international flight schedule - a great financial expense.” **

Rocketed skyward

The Boeing 747 immediately returned to Jakarta and took off again for Jeddah seven hours later, he said. Another Garuda plane bound for Riyadh also had to delay its departure because of the test. Indonesian officials say that details of the incident may now be passed on to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation. The jet’s exact location in relation to the missile, which trailed orange and yellow smoke as it rocketed skyward, had not yet been made public. There has so far been no response from India to the Indonesian complaints. On Thursday it was announced that the Agni III - India’s longest range missile - had been successfully test-fired. The missile is designed to reach 3,000 km (1,900 miles) and puts China’s major cities well into range, as well as targets deep in the Middle East. The missile was launched from Wheeler Island off the eastern state of Orissa and is also said to be capable of carrying up to a 300-kiloton nuclear warhead.

Wow, Indonesia has an airline

Re: Inodensian Airliner avoids Indian test missile

This is becoming an international incident that will cause embarrassment to India.

Re: Inodensian Airliner avoids Indian test missile

Another Propaganda.

Western media is always pi$$ed..when some “third world” country tests a ballistic missile.
It was not the first time India tested a missile that they were not aware about procedures of safety.

It’s ridiculous…what ICAO or IATA can do here if you will clear a flight, even though your Air Traffic Control is made aware, one week in advance.

I can sniff some “Saudi agenda” here…they have purposely used a pilgrimage flight from Indonesia to generate sensation…since for the first time middle east has come in the range of Indian missile.

Silly Billy…below news is for you to put a break on propaganda permanently.

Re: Inodensian Airliner avoids Indian test missile

^
:hehe: amusing post.

I guess rediff is also is also pi$$ed that Indian tested missiles?

When Agni III came in the way of jets

Two jet aircraft had to return to the south-east Asian cities from where they took off while flying over Indian airspace at the time of the Agni missile test on Thursday with one incident threatening to cause a diplomatic spat. An Air India Express flight bound for Chennai via Tiruchirappalli returned to Singapore following the missile test. In the second incident, the Garuda Indonesia jet, carrying Muslim pilgrims en route to Saudi Arabia, had reached Indian airspace when the missile streaked across the sky forcing the plane to turn around, AFP reported from Jakarta. Air India Express’s Singapore-Tiruchirappalli-Chennai flight landed in Tiruchirapalli at 6.30 pm on Thursday, over seven hours behind schedule, officials said.

The flight was on its way here when defence officials advised the pilot to take a diversion for safety reasons in view of the Agni test. The pilot then contacted the air traffic authorities in Colombo, the nearest airport, but was refused permission to land. Garuda’s operations diector Ari Sapari was quoted as saying by the Kompas newspaper that there was no prior information about the test. Indonesia’s foreign ministry could lodge a formal protest over the incident, Transport Minister Hatta Rajasa reportedly said. The Boeing 747 jet carrying 400 people aborted its flight after 90 minutes and returned to the Indonesian capital Jakarta, the report said, adding that the plane resumed its journey four hours later.

Re: Inodensian Airliner avoids Indian test missile

Bhai Jaan. Never ever call India a Third World country.

Re: Inodensian Airliner avoids Indian test missile

rediff has sold its soul to western media!!!!!

Re: Inodensian Airliner avoids Indian test missile

I guess Hindustan will be killing people on it's own territory with these unreliable missiles. These missiles will probably end up with a reputataion like the Hindustani Migs!

Re: Inodensian Airliner avoids Indian test missile

The airspace of a country lies 12 miles outside that countries coastline. When the indonesian airliner was so close to indian airspace or even reached it, why the heck did it go back to indonesia in that case??..that too after just 90 mins of flight from indonesia it reached indian airspace??..:omg: :rotfl: Both rediff and silly should think before getting amused :hehe:

Re: Inodensian Airliner avoids Indian test missile

I dont think it is right to start blaming western media for all this. They will be more interested in a north korean missile test. They virtually dont care what missile we test. Same way, even we dont care what their countries test. Even if we do, it would be only to buy them or get/develop that technology.

Re: Inodensian Airliner avoids Indian test missile

Besides, there seems to be a mis-understanding among the countries concerned in all this.

Re: Inodensian Airliner avoids Indian test missile

Exactly right!!

And also they are catering to a certain section of people who like to be the "first" who got a "breaking news".
It's all money and site traffic.
Just read some knee-jerk responses of people on that website and you will realize what kind of readers they have.

What gives a food for thought is BBC...even I was shocked, when I read it on BBC...clearly they ignored the facts here for some reason.

Re: Inodensian Airliner avoids Indian test missile

don’t tell like that when was travelling from dhaka to kolkata in Biman Bangla
the flight went Dhaka to kolkata 2 times because of bad whether
anyway the flight journey is 30 mints i need to be in airport for whole day :bummer:

Re: Inodensian Airliner avoids Indian test missile

Now Indian Express has sold its soul to western media!!!

Agni test sends Indonesia jet home

An Indian missile test forced an Indonesian airliner packed with passengers to turn around and head home, threatening a diplomatic spat, a report said on Friday. The Garuda Indonesia jet, full of Muslim pilgrims en route to Saudi Arabia, had reached Indian airspace when the nuclear-capable ballistic missile streaked across the sky yesterday, forcing the plane to turn around. “There was no prior information about the test,” the national carrier’s operations director Ari Sapari was quoted as saying by the Kompas newspaper. Indonesia’s foreign ministry could lodge a formal protest over the incident, Transport Minister Hatta Rajasa reportedly said. The Boeing 747 jet carrying 400 people aborted its flight after 90 minutes and returned to the Indonesian capital Jakarta, the report said. “This clearly disrupted our schedule and caused us big losses,” Sapari was quoted as saying. The plane resumed its journey four hours later. The jet’s exact location relative to the missile, which trailed orange and yellow smoke as it rocketed skyward, was unspecified in the report.

Re: Inodensian Airliner avoids Indian test missile

In this case I don’t think so…I guess “western media” is expressing the sentiments of their government.

Just think in other way… this test has put India on a threshold…it will not take them a long time from here on to develop an ICBM with range more than 5000KM…this may change the balance of power…and west concern is very much understandable.

As a matter of fact…whether it’s North Korea, India or Pakistan..anyone possessing an ICBM will pose a new Challenge for west…there is nothing like “permanent” freindship.

I read..Indian scientists have already indicated that in “government” permits they can do an ICBM thing…but major question is how far government can go ignoring US and UK.
(Distance from major cities in Europe is approx 6000 – 8000 Kms.)

what if this missile actually shot down this passenger jet?

india would have blamed the ISI for it

From the International Herald Tribune.

Indonesia says Indian missile test forced Garuda passenger jet to turn back

An Indonesian jet carrying hundreds of passengers was forced to turn around over Indian airspace after a nuclear-capable ballistic missile streaked across the sky, the Foreign Ministry said Friday. Indonesia demanded an explanation from New Delhi, which insisted that aviation authorities had been informed about Thursday’s test launch well in advance. The Garuda Indonesia Boeing 747 was flying from Jakarta to Saudi Arabia when the Indian control tower told pilots the missile had been launched, said Ari Sapari, the national carrier’s director. “We were not given any advance warning about this missile test,” he said. “This was obviously confusing and worrying. It also caused us to disrupt an international flight schedule — a great financial expense.” The plane carrying 413 people immediately returned to Jakarta and took off again for Jeddah in Saudi Arabia seven hours later, he said. Another Garuda plane bound for the Saudi city of Riyadh also had to delay its departure Thursday because of the test.

Indonesia — which is struggling to defend its transportation safety record after a string of deadly air, train and ferry accidents — said it would summon an Indian diplomat to seek official clarification. “We have to make sure this does not happen in the future,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Kristiarto Legowo told reporters Friday. India said one day after successfully test-firing its longest-range missile, the Agni III, that Indonesia and other air traffic controllers across the region had been properly informed about its plans. “A notice was sent a week before the test,” government spokesman Navtej Sarna said in a statement. Aviation officials were told “about the launch window date, danger time, zone and height,” he said, and had been advised to “issue notice to aviators and mariners.” The Agni III missile, which is designed to reach 3,000 kilometers (1,900 miles), was launched from Wheeler Island off the eastern state of Orissa and is said to be capable of carrying up to a 300-kiloton nuclear warhead.

Re: Inodensian Airliner avoids Indian test missile

In fact India and Pakistan inform each other before all missile tests.

ISI is responsible only for terrorism, missile is still not in their reach :)

What happenned is the certain "sensational" Indian media gave a chance for propaganda...DRDO has already clarified to end the conspiracy, so matter is closed now.

Re: Inodensian Airliner avoids Indian test missile

^^ ISI engages in freedom movements throughout bharat :)
