So I have made a list of everything we need for the baby.(or at least I think I have everything down. Done quite some research on what is the best & reasonably priced but I am stuck at the infant bath tub choice & now I am way too exhausted to do anything further.
All you experienced parents out there which ones are the best in terms of practicality, safety, comfort for the baby & storage?
No TLK Bhai. Not really. I have been reading reviews of different bath tubs where some have problems of mold forming in them after 1 month of usage. Some have this issue where the water doesn't drain out properly. Some are good but take too much space for storage or don't fit properly in bath sinks or kitchen sinks. There are some where the baby can slip in the tub supposedly.
The only thing I am freaked out the most about is the baby's first bath. I am so scared of holding infants yet alone handling them.
Being a first time parent I don't even know if the water not draining properly is a safety issue or can be managed properly.
I mean if there is a tub that's $20 & then there is a tub for $50. What's the difference. Funny part is most cheaper ones have better ratings.
The hammock isn’t practical for a tall baby. Plus, the bump can actually hurt the back of the baby if you do use the hammock. Remove the hammock and the bath tub has a raised bump which gets in the way. It’s not practical until the baby can sit on its own.
I would advise you to get a simple, straight forward bath tub that is all flat inside or one that at least doesn’t have a bump in the centre. It’s great now that my son can sit on his own, but in the beginning, when he was smaller, this was a difficult tub to use.
u can get a normal bath tub n then get one of those hammock tings or a special sponge thing (cant remember wat u call them) n use it till bby is still small
thees 2 pics one is wen the thing is folded n other wen open
check the foam support n the shaped one too hope that helped
Thanks Mehnaz. So nothing with a bump in the middle. But then what happens when the baby starts sitting? Do I just go get a new one? I mean how hard is it to hold the baby & bathe them at the same time?
I saw this other tub with a shower head. Someone told me get that but then online reviews weren’t too great.
Hey sweetu Thanks for the link. so when the baby grows a little I go buy another one or what?
to be very honest. dont get any tub.. i dont know if u live in europe or states canada.. if u live in the latter.. sinks are big enough to fit a newborn.. all u need is a bath mat and ure set... i bought a tub with this raised bit at one side, with 2 semil circles .. point being, baby doesnt slip and slide in tehw hole tub.. it works like a seat.. its great but not for a newborn... only for a baby that can sit up
i also got a foam floater that u can put anywhere, sink or tub ... but didnt help cuz it weighs down as teh water soaks in... so u have to handle baby and float
but teh biggest reason i didnt use any tub in the first month was cuz.. i just coudnt bed down... even sitting on a step stool to bath the baby was back breaking for me.. and not comfy... so i just bathed him in the sink with a bath mat under him.. the easiest thing ever
then i upgraded to a bathing chair.. its like a seat with a net hammock kinda thing.. again.. better tahn a tub.. plus i also didnt want him sitting there in water ... babies dont need baths.. they need quick showers.
i only started using the tub at 6 months. he learned to sit and then the tub with teh raised side came in real real handy...
oh and if u dont wanna use the sink.. then i would really recommend tub on a stand.. again.. just so u dont havta break ure back bending down cuz honestly.. bathing a baby is HARD... controlling water, baby and sponge is not fun!
u dnt need to get another one, i say go with wat khawa said, its the best way!
but if u do buy any of the baths, or ur asking about the ones i showed well the little folding thing u can place it in any baby tub or normal big ppl bath
the other plastic one can also b placed in a bby tub, n wen bby is older u cn take it out
I was just as confused about a bath tub as you are. It was such a daunting task, not knowing what the ‘right’ kind would be. Now that I’ve had 15 month experience with my little one, I can safely say that any bath tub would’ve been ok. I had the one with a slanted side designed for little babies, and the other side for a toddler. It also had a little bump in the middle, and I didn’t have any problem with it. Since the last few months, my little one has graduated to the regular tub, so there’s no need for the little one anymore.
Honestly, just get a simple bath tub. This is what mine looked like.
Thanks for all the advice ladies. I am still confused but I guess I might just go with what Khawateen mentioned. I am in the US but I don’t know for some reason baby’s bathroom’s sink seems a little smaller than our bath sink.
If anything I’ll just ask hubby to grab something at that very moment. He can choose whatever he wants. Its not like I can go out anymore & buy it myself anyways
I was trying to find a picture of what I used but looks like they don't have those online. Mine was sort of like the above one but without the bump...they do still carry them in Babies R Us. Just saw it a few weeks ago.
Yeah I have seen the above one in Babies R Us. I'll try to see if I can handle one more trip to Babies R Us over the weekend. Otherwise hubby can decide. Thanks Niksik :)
Thanks SGC. I saw that when you posted it in Sahar's thread.
I have been kind of inclined on it & Babies R Us recently added it in there online inventory but I haven't seen it in a store yet & for other mommies to be that come across the link its not $99. Its $42.99
This is the one we have and even though it has mixed reviews (can get moldy etc) honestly i havent had a bad exp with it yet. Its big in size so if you are in an apartment you might have to find space for it but otherwise i thought it was easy to use and actually still use it for my 1 year old. I always make sure to put it upside down to drain it well after each use. I also made sure to rinse and hang dry the sling after each use so it wont stink.
That being said, you dont really need a bath tub.My mom can do an amazing job in a sink. If your mom or MIL will be there after the baby is born, then you can ask tehm to do the first bath. Usually the nurses at the hospital with give the first bath and when you bring her home, you can do sponge baths until she is a bit older and easier to handle.
^ That's what we have too! I particularly like the hammock. It's been fine so far. But it doesn't fit in the sink -- hubby and I bathe her by putting it in the tub.
The first few weeks, we (mom and MIL mostly :D ) just used the sink.
I like the Euro Primo - it can be found at Babies R Us (if you are in the US). My baby loves it - he's now 1 years old but we used it ever since he was a new born. It can be used 2 ways (for newborns and older kids). It received amazing reviews which is the reason we bought it.
This is so weird, but I somehow ended up not using any bathtubs (bought 2), I just couldn’t handle them so I used to sit down inside the big bathtub we had and give my daughter a quick bath on my feet… that way I didn’t need to use my hands to support her head. My mom showed me how to do that . Started using the baby tub when she started sitting up on her own… I was scared of those tubs when she was little. I wonder if I’ll be able to do the feet thing with my next child, seems like I’ve forgotten everything already
