Re: Infant Bath Tubs
It's been so long since I've used one of these infant tubs. How often is it recommended to give baby a bath? Usually everyday, yeah? Because of all the throw up, pooping and what.
Gosh, it's been too long :p

Re: Infant Bath Tubs
We give a bath every night.
Re: Infant Bath Tubs
give a bath everyday. nurse in the hospital said every other day, but he would get washed first thing in the morning and then again every time he did #2. you don't have to give a full head bath each time though .... just trust your instincts. it will all come back to you smiley. :p
Re: Infant Bath Tubs
everyday bath was a huge mistake on our part for when our son was born.. we did the routine every night and within 2 months, his skin was dry as paper...
we were told that thats a no no cuz of the hard water that this country has flowing in it...
so now we bathe him once a week and shower every 3rd day.
generally, where i live, babies arent even showered after they are born and stay taht way for a week .. their thinking is, the fat that is on the baby is good moisturizer for it... i found it sick and ofcourse bathed him teh very night he was born myself...
but ya... danes dont bleieve in giving a bath or shower everyday.. probably comes bavk to the hard water spoiling the baby's skin
now that we have cut it down.. his skin is ok again.. thankfully
Re: Infant Bath Tubs
We gave sponge baths to our newborn for the first week, till her belly button stump fell off. Thats what we were told to do by her Ped.
After that first week, I would give her a bath every other day but not daily.... her skin was also very dry, and I had to use a lot of baby oil/moisturizer after her baths.

yeah, see that's what i was thinking. that the water would likely cause the baby's skin to become dry very quickly.
khawa, i thought europeans didn't like to bathe in general :p
Re: Infant Bath Tubs
smiley.. they are disgusting in that dept... they dont like to bathe and well.. there USED to be a valid reason for it.... but thats a totally diff topic
as for babies.. it makes sense... what is a newborn doing that it needs to be bathed everyday? yes it poops..b ut washing it off down there does the trick.. why BATHE it everyday? it doesnt have solids.. it doesnt rub food everywhere...
no one we know .. desi or non .. over here.. bathes their baby everyday....
its only when they start to have solids and manage to get food into their hair and clothing, that they need more cleaning but even then.. bathing is only done once a week.. a quick shower suffices every other day, again soap is only used on hands and face, thats it. (unless food made its way to the hair then ure in for an extra bath)
its worked out for our son . the bathing everyday rule just doesnt apply unless its something that helps ure child fall asleep at night.... it didnt for us so we just quit altogether

just came across this one today- Beaba Foldable Bath | Apartment Therapy Ohdeedoh
Re: Infant Bath Tubs
Our ped recommended not bathing with soap and either sponge bathing or using plain water. She said soap is not needed, its not like they get dirty or anything, plus it was winter and she was always wrapped up. We didnt do regular baths until much much later. My mom was with us and she was totally against it, saying kay usay thand lag jaye gi etc. So in the first couple of month, she was bathing once a week.
My mom says the same thing that this is the best way to give a baby a bath.To get into the bathtub yourself and hold the lil one on your feet and something like that.
I am not sure if I can do it easily.

^ Exactly MIAinVA how do you do that? Can you explain it in more details. I would be scared to crush the baby or something.
SGC: Thanks for posting the portable bath link. Seems nice & handy for traveling which I know we'll be doing a lot once the baby turns three months old.
As Smilestar asked about the bath part. Every one has mixed opinions. I was thinking every night so she can sleep good & then whenever she poops I plan to not just wipe her but give her kind of a half bath maybe.
Khawateen where I live it gets really dry here & you mentioned your baby's skin getting dry. I am wondering if you don't shower them or give them a bath every day. Wouldn't they stink. Like of milk & all & since they are kept all wrapped up I am sure babies must sweat too.
As far as the tub part. Thanks IRA & Sahar for posting what you guys got. We haven't gotten anything yet. My mom will be here soon & I am gonna ask the nurses in the hospital for some guidance as well. Hubby knows that if we end up needing a bath tub then its going to be the PUJ tub SGC posted. I know Bed Bath & Beyond has it too. I just hope they carry it in store as well.
Re: Infant Bath Tubs
I wish I had made a video… not that i could post it here
Just as a reminder for myself.
I just used to sit down in the tub with both my feet joined … ugh, don’t know how to explain it… hmm… think about how we raise our hands for dua… you know in a cupped shape… so I would stretch my legs and keep my feet (feet, not legs) in a cupped shape with the soles upward, put her head on my feet cup and keep her facing me and I would have a plastic mat covered with a quilted cloth mat on the bathtub floor between me and my feet so her body would be on that… so think of it like an oval-shaped tub made my by legs… lol.
This way, my feet soles would support and hold her head and I had both my hands free to bather her properly and catch her if she made any sudden movements… She wouldn’t slip due to the quilted mat also she would be supported by my legs around her ![]()
I used to just rinse the plastic and quilted mats and hang them in the bathroom to dry. I think I will get the hang of it again if I try
Let me know if I confused you ladies more and I’ll try to explain it better.
P.S. Newborn babies are really tiny, so you can just roll up your pants/bottoms up to your knee and stay dry.
So how did you manage not to slip while doing this? I think I got it. But how do you balance the baby as well as bend down at the same time to clean the baby? I am assuming you don't actually sit in the tub but stand & wash the baby.
I guess I am getting it but still getting confused at the same time.
Re: Infant Bath Tubs
Actually I did sit down, how else would I be able to do it on my feet?
At first I used to just sit down on a non-slip mat beneath me but then I would get all wet so I started using a little low-height stool that I would put in the bathtub and sit on that, barely 1-2 inch high.
