Indo-pak, why not? (Ramiz, Waqar, Manjrekar)

I just came back from this seminar held in my university on the said topic.

There were lots of intersting questions and comments…

I like Manjrekar as a commentator and today he was no different. He was very blunt on the view that India should and must tour pakistan. There is no obviuos reason and Gov of India is not doing a smart thing etc etc.

Ramiz was at his eloquent best and handled the most difficult questions with aplomb. Questions regarding Rashid/Sohail fiasco were heated but he is just soooo patient :), etc etc

Waqar was fired with questions regarding his captaincy in that match at centurion and his future and he was umm not so diplomatic. Surprising to see how he praised Shoaib and his changed-attitude now.

I will post more summarized details later in few hours. Meanwhile you can inquire about any specific question that might have been asked.

And yay, i stole the show in the end with a great question and Manjrekar was completely speechless for a while :dhimpak: Even Ramiz was clapping at that question

i want to know what Qs's were asked to waqar, especially regarding WC game, and what do u mean by him not so diplomatic, was it in reply to any particular question?
What Qs did u ask?

where did this happen, somwhere in england?

it happened in lahore yaar:) im Lums (in case you heard of it)

You’re in LUMS? Great place to be :k:

What are you doing? Science? Economics?

salam

could you please give some details of waqar's part....is waqar still in lahorel...thanks

thanks Cathonice powers i m doing ms in cs there..

Regarding questions to waqar. First he was asked how well the team was coping with the pressure of Pakistan india match, he said that we were very united for a change and focused, its too bad that things didnt come off when they were all set to. Sachin just blew us away. He said ’ i never disliked Sachin that much in my entire playing career :hehe: (that was meant to be a joke)

Another person asked if the team was in right frame of mind that day, he said like i said we wanted to be positive and thats why Shoaib was given the new ball whole tournmanet, too bad that Shoaib being our truimph card didnt come off that day. Continuing with Shoaib, he was asked ‘what was that war of words all about in England when Shoaib said that he was the sole striker when he came into the team and Wasim and waqar were in decline’ He replied’ **that is shoaib’s personal view, all i want is shoaib to realize that his actions will always speak louder than his words :hehe: ** whole hall erupted into laughter when he said that :k: **Pakistani team needs a focused shoaib and right now his attitude is a pleasnt change evident from the fact that he won us many matches since the worldcup **

another intersting question was asked that ‘If Indians do come to paksitan we need an aggressive captain who is brave enough to tackle the indians, who do You think should be the captain’ Ppl started clapping because obviuosly waqar was gonna name himself. He laughed and said well **Inzimam isnt doing a bad job right now ** Ppl started booing :hehe: ** But i think Rashid was doing an even better job, but too bad he sufferred through the hands of ‘unknown factors’ and had to resign **:hehe:

Manjrekar is very lucky to have been born in India because he has the privilege to abuse the govt. for his policies.

However, I along with many of my Indian brothers support Indian govt's stand on this issue.

I guess truth hurts all the way, I have always liked Manjrekar, very clear and gets straight to the point.
Anyways, he told those Indians and the reaction we saw from Asif bhai.

Anyways, Saby what was the question you asked?
I want to know.

You can keep supporting along with your brother the policies of Indian government, that will eventually allianate India from the cricketing world. Right now everyone is just afriad to mess with a country with enormous population but sooner or later things will go out of hand. On occasion even Indian cricket board has shown its displeasure of the governments policy of not playing Pakistan, you didnt say anything about that but when it came to Manjrekar something crawled up your a$$.

Tell me why dont India refuse to play Pakistan in other sports like hockey. Why dont they stop Pakistan artists (a la Junoon) from coming to India. Why only cricket. There is only one answer and that is they are scared of loosing and facing the anger of billions of people. If it was genuinley meant to create a distance from Pakistan due to the so called cross border terrorism then they should not allow any Indian team to compete with Pakistan in any sports not just cricket.

I think I just fell in love with you.

And Yaar I have met many decent Indians who do not support their govts coward acts.
Matter of a fact, when I had subscription to ZTV last year in June, the News broadcast did an interview on the streets of Mumbai if Ind should play Pak and 100% wanted to see the 2 teams play.
Its only people like Asif_k who want to spread hatred between the 2 countries.

Re: Re: Re: Indo-pak, why not? (Ramiz, Waqar, Manjrekar)

oh yeah, well iw as listnening to all questions and Manjrekars repeated quite often that its players responsiblity to diffue the situation and treat it as a game and not talk about its political aspect and nations involvement. In the end i got the chance to question and i asked ** Sir, you keep saying that its the players reponsiblity, may i point out one instance when players have failed to do so? Pakistani players were wrong in creating a hype before the mach at centurion etc but Sachin while recieving his MoM needlessly pointed out that now we have beaten them four times in WC matches, and that is not how a matured player should difuse the situation, and that incident in the end have not helped the ‘game’ aspect of it, and the stakes are set even higher now, And now if pakistani captain wins the game against india, shouldnt he mention that now its the 53rd time we have beaten india??? And imagine how this statement would be recieved in indian media? Yes Sachin blew our bowling away but that particular comment left us with a bad taste apart from a cricketing perspective. And i wonder if Waqar felt like kicking sahicn at that moment (to this waqar started laughing :hehe: ) **

Ramiz Raja was elated and started clapping and everyone in the hall was calpping as well, Manjrekar looked perplexed for a minute then said, ** yes, that was a wrong statement but remember , sachin had never played a match-winning innings against pakistan before and prolly the occassion and the feeling that he was a major factor got the better of him, but that comment was unwanted. ** Then manjrekar told us how players meet with each other etc etc

Asif, let me get some moer time to type what manjrekar and Ramiz had to say about indians not touring... They had valid points which obviously are not in your govt's perpspective.

I don't take the Indian Govt seriously on the issue of sport and no one in their right mind would either. After all, Uma Bharti the former Minister of Sport has been charged with inciting the destruction of Babri masjid and presumably the violence which followed.

These hate mongers should have nothing to do with sport and should stick to what they do best which is inciting religous hatred.

Saby, great stuff bro :k:

sounds like you made just as big impact there as you do here with your logic and reason.

^^ thanks Xtreme :)

Saby Bhai Aap to Chaa Gaye Hain

Saby, hero of the month :jhanda:

you won the battle man..

Rameez, Manjrekar, Waqar ask fans to push for Indo-Pak cricket](Daily Jang: Urdu News - Latest Breaking News update Pakistan - jang.com.pk)

Indians and Pakistanis should push their governments to allow cricket exchanges between the cricket-mad rivals to resume, former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar said.

“Politicians are careful over making the decision (to resume cricketing ties) but people can push them into it,” Manjrekar said at a university seminar late Saturday entitled “Pakistan versus India, why not?” “Over the years it has become a major, difficult political decision and since the gap is getting bigger, the decision is becoming a major one,” said Manjrekar, who played 52 Tests for India in the 1980s.

The Indian government cut all bilateral cricket ties, as well as various travel and diplomatic links, with Pakistan following an attack on its parliament in December 2001 which it blamed on militants backed by Islamabad. No Indian team has visited Pakistan for a Test series since 1989-90.

However, recent peace overtures between the hostile neighbours and Indias clearance for a junior-level series have raised hopes that New Delhi could give the green light for its team to cross the border in February-March next year. “Government knows it is a difficult decision and it would depend on political weather in India that we tour Pakistan in February next year,” said Manjrekar, who is a television commentator in Pakistan.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief executive Rameez Raja, who also addressed the PCB-organised seminar at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), said it was also important financially that India played Pakistan. “We can earn 11 million dollars in 20 days of cricket with India and it is imperative and important that India plays Pakistan,” said Raja, who led a Pakistan team in 1997-98 to feature in Indias Independence Cup.

Former captain Waqar Younis told the jam-packed auditorium of around 500 students that he regretted playing just four Tests against India. “The biggest regret in my 14-year career is that I played only four Tests against India,” said Waqar, who made his debut when India last toured Pakistan in 1988-89. “I think we are missing a great dual, people talk about Ashes series and South Africa vs Australia, but I think Pakistan versus India is the best,” said Waqar. Pakistan and India met twice in Emerging Nations’ Cup in Sri Lanka last week and an under-19 team is due to tour Pakistan next month.
