During the past few one dayers, Pakistan were smacked for 300 odd runs on more than one occassions and thrice we have achieved that score ourselves. But what is the main difference in the bowling approach of both teams?
Indian bowlers (read sachin, Yuvraj and today Karthik) kept bowling a foot outside the leg stump) That might be dubbed as an intelligent run saving tactic but in my opinion it is sort of damaging the game. It was painful to see a player of Sachin calibre bowling to Abdul Razzaq and Shoaib Malik two foot outside the leg stump. It is their brilliance that they still kept the scoreboad ticking.
Pakistan tried that with Afridi today but it failed and it is clear that Pakistan prefer to take wickets bowling properly rather than bowling 20 overs on the legs continuosly. That approach highlights the approach of both teams througout the series.
I would prefer Naveed, sami Malik and Afridi and co spanked all over rather than bowling to Sachin and co two foot outside the leg stump
I rememeber that in sharjah, umpires intervened and stopped sri lankans from bowling foot outside the off stump in a final against Pakistan.
Yeah but unlike in the past ODI's, today our batsmen figured out how to tackle the noora bowling from Tendi. In my opinion it wasnt that effective. It was one of those balls that Razzq hit and got out unfortunately.
skhan it does suit them but it is a painful site as a cricket enthusiast. Occassionaly it is alright, WI do it, even Australians do it but to do it for three consecutive matches was a pain and a half. The best I saw a pakistani batsman was yousuf Youhana in second one dayer who smacked Sachin and Yuvraj over midwicket with aplomb.
Hopefully we will see a bit of positive cricket with Dravid at the helm for last two one dayers.
Bowling foot outside leg won't buy you wickets. India gambled it wrong. They thought they can restrict opposition defending a huge total. This ploy would almost always fail on subcontinent's batting strips.
I don't think it is negative bowling at all. It is at very best, defensive mindset and succumbing to opposition.
Bowling outside legstump is considered a negative bowling by most if not all cricketers. It is really un-necessary to bowl 15-30 over on this line, why not try different deliveries in different ares.
Tendulkar bowled all his over on the same line and kept crying when he was hit for a boundry or 2 runs. such a bunghole.
LOL yeah tendu was crying like a little girl throughout. A paki batsman i dont remember who edged a delivery from tendu and dhoni failed to collect it properly. Tendu jumped high in the air with joy but while airborne he realized it wasnt out and he came down really ticked off letting out a loud angry groan at the umpire lol.
I think it is smart cricket in ODI where as in Test matched it is not . In test matches if you bowl outside the leg then you are only trying to do one thing that is you want to draw match and this is negative.
In onedayers, there is no option of draw. So bolwing negative can be a part of startegy where you want to contain the batsmen and subsequently win since you have big total to defend. It worked many time ,unfortunately for Indians it didnot work this time. Also what else bowlers have in subcontinent ODIs.It is so totally tilted in favour of batsmen that I hate it. Slowluy I am loosing intrest in ODI when it is played in these kinda condition. I said same thing when India won in Karachi and I am saying samething now when India lost.
Cominh to topic of legside blowling, let me tell you bowling outside the leg is an art in ODI when rules of WIDE is so strict. You will have to bring ball each and every time else it will be called Wide. Afridi tried it and he failed miserably.
^ Nice try bud It still remains a pathetic display of sportsmanship. Very sissy bowling if I may… Even Kenya wouldn’t bowl at such a line..so much for the “strategy”
I agree with f&b. It is a tactic that some teams have been using as of late. I think it can be used in a Test match to slow the run-rate as the rules for wide are linient. It works in ODI's as well but not when you have to take all wickets to win. India knew after 15 overs that they can't restrict Pakistan but rather have to get them all out to win. They needed wickets. You don't get wickets bowling leg side all the time.
well it is a strategy and if its working for the team then good for them. tendu got 5 wkts in first match this way. also they are not breaking any rules by bowling around the wicket. yeah negative for those who can't deal with it but then thats how things are. everyone plays to win. if pak is not complaining then we should not aswell. afterall these same negative tactics won us the match last time and this time aswell. so its ok.
Exactly! i don't call it negative tactics. It's as if a batsman playing reverse sweep is negative. A bowler is limited with what he can do..all those stupid laws on one bouncer per over, no beamers, a mm outside leg and it's a wide...and the list goes on. Creative bowlers are coming up with different tactics to strengthen their arsenal. I say more power to them.
