http://ia.rediff.com/news/2006/jun/19un2.htm?q=tp&file=.htm

What is Pakistani govt. doing? Why can’t they put name of either Qazi Hussein Ahmad or Maulana Fazlur Rahman for UN’s top post??? :grumpy: They will be better than this unknown bollywood actor Shashi Tharoor.

Re: India’s candidate for UN’s top post

Re: India’s candidate for UN’s top post

the election of this guy is bad for pakistan…

most former UN guys were from neutral countries such as ghana, sweden and egypt…

but with india, it wont sit well with pakistan or china…

Re: India's candidate for UN's top post

I am little bit surprised cuz Pakistan is atleast as respect as India, if not much(I don't wanna offend my friend Captain1) among the UN's biggies- USA, China, Russia, France, Germany, UK and Italy.. The current secretary general is from Ghana. We have some good statesmen in Mr. Shahbaz Sharif, Ch. Shujaat Hussain, Ch. Rafiq Mohammed Tarar, Farooq Ahmed Khan Leghari.. why doesnt Pakistan field their own candidature?

Re: India's candidate for UN's top post

I am not suggesting that this Indian guy be elected and no Pakistani be nominated, I am all for a Pakistani heading the UN but these two clowns (Qazi and Fazal).

Re: India's candidate for UN's top post

What about Maleeha Lodhi, she was the former Pakistani ambassador to UN and is the current high commissioner to England...

She is articulate, smart and will make a good candidiate for the UN and most important of all, show to the rest of the world that Pakistan is not a country full of long bearded, jew and christian hating uneducated jihals

Re: India's candidate for UN's top post

Why is it that Pakistan should field their candidate if India has fielded theirs. I think Pakistan should be a little pro active. Why does Pakistan always has to be reative, esp. when India takes some action.
I think Pakistan should field their candidate, not because India has done so, but because there is a need for Pakistan, because there is a worthy candidate.

Re: India’s candidate for UN’s top post

Oh ya exactly this is wot i was thinking but i liked Captains dialogue :Dhehe. Pakistan should take initiate on its own… i think Bush ki jagha apna koi banda bitha do before India :shireen:

Re: India's candidate for UN's top post

Don't get your panties in a bunch. The Indian mission doesn't even like the guy. You think they are going to actively campaign for him?

Re: India’s candidate for UN’s top post

Good one

Re: India’s candidate for UN’s top post

Hunh?? At least get your facts right bud.

I don’t know about his political proclivities, but Dr. Tharoor has been working with the UN for over 28 years, has a Ph.D. in Law & Diplomacy studies along with two Masters degrees from Tufts, and he’s a famous author - he’s won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize.

Show me a Pakistani candidate who’s nearly as qualified as him for the post and I’ll support him.

Re: India's candidate for UN's top post

Pakistan shouldn't be worried as long as his loyalties lie with the UN and not New Delhi. But what worries me are the reports that New Delhi is backing his candidature. If it's true, he might feel obliged to repay New Delhi's favours with political partisanship in issues involving India and Pakistan.

Re: India's candidate for UN's top post

We don't want to have a Hindu in that post - as simple as that. Rafiq Muhammed Tarar or Nuclear scientist Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan could be a good candidates from Pakistan.

Re: India's candidate for UN's top post

Tarar, Rafiq, Kazi, AQ? It's not funny. If you're serious, then either you're a naive person or you're an imposter (that's what you probably are). It's not a personal attack, but I couldn't draw any other conclusion from your hateful remarks in Pak 1 and naivety of your suggestions in World forum. Stop playing stupid games!

Re: India's candidate for UN's top post

No wonder world have such bad opinions of Muslims like u. And I am happy at least not all muslims think like u. The head of the united nations nuclear watch dog is a muslims, but that didnt prevent him from going aginst the Islamic republic of Iran.

Re: India's candidate for UN's top post

I am not playing games bhaijaan.. what makes you think so? Rafiq Tarar is a guy who has been helping ppl since partition days... he had volunteered to help the victims affected by the partition.. as a president he wasnt bad- he wanted Pakistan estabishment and foriegn ministy to help improve relations with other countries and help improve image of Pakistan and Islam in general. AQ Khan is tainted now but think how he single-handedly took Pakistan from a thrid-world Islamic nation to a nuclear super power.. Please provide link to the world forum posting where you found my remarks to be weird...
