India's candidate for UN's top post

Re: India's candidate for UN's top post

Shashi Tharoor is...how do i put this? A farce. Atleast that is what the UN circles say. He will not be SG. Why? Because if he becomes SG, India will not get a Permanent SC seat. Not for the next 20 years. Secondly the man who is SG has to be an incompetent weakling. After all everybody remembers what happened to Ghali.

On the position of Pakistan. There are 3 extremely good candidates. Why cause strife and problems by adding in a fifth. Pakistan should not field a candidate period. It will not happen. We won't get the votes. The US and EU would be extremely averse to the idea of a muslims SG - specifically one with a backbone.

Look the UNSG is not decided by India or Cambodia. It is decided by the P-5. How many of you think China would be happy with an Indian SG?

Re: India's candidate for UN's top post

^ china would not vie for something as ceremonial as SG. China has lot of other things going on. Plus, with complains of irregualrities and impotency of UN as an organization- one which is not capable of doing anything, I am guessing days of UN are numbered.. US might lobby for shutting down the office in NYC or shifting it to Geneva or some other place. Except Angelina Jolie there is no one who really believes UN is doing something concrete to help the poor and destitutes

Re: India's candidate for UN's top post

First figure out what is more important trait of the candidate: do you want a pakisani or any muslim.

Re: India's candidate for UN's top post

So Indian president would have been ok??

Re: India's candidate for UN's top post

True, Pakistan would be hard pressed to find a candidate that would match his credentials of being a apologist and a cheer leader for the fascist pogroms carried out by Hindu extremists in India...

Read his "India, From Midnight to Milleniuum" where he justifies the Hinduvta philosophy and RSS' agenda to Indianize/hinduize its minorities...A prototypical sophisticated and liberalized hindu, with fascist and bigotry inherently running in his veins...

Re: India’s candidate for UN’s top post

Do we have icon to slap the other person? I can not begin to comprehend where you came up with such ideas. Just please for the sake of the world, never take a job that lets you plan policy at any level.

Re: India's candidate for UN's top post

Oye, zabaan sambal kar! Punjabiyan naal panga na le. No wonder you are holed up in Gitmo and not keeping tabs on news or current affairs? Do you know how much financial irregularities and scam Kofi Annan and his son have been part of? What has UN given to the world overall? Meetings and movements leading nowhere.. Rest Assured, I will not join anything as worthless as UN.

Re: India's candidate for UN's top post

oh that Abdul Kalam.. he's hardly a muslim.. he's like Shah Rukh Khan.. overtime they have become Hindus and it'll be better if they leave our religion..

Re: India's candidate for UN's top post

Ask the Syrians what the UN can and can not do. I don't have time to educate people on the basics of international politics.

Re: India's candidate for UN's top post

Any muslim for who Islam comes first and then anything else.

Re: India’s candidate for UN’s top post

shut your mouth and get out! Ppl like you give muslims and punjabis bad name

Re: India's candidate for UN's top post

In some cases.. yeah they have done commendable job... but UN has yet to become de-facto ruler of the world and let tyrants take control whenver they want.. There's a lot that need to be done.. I will give you an example.. UN should have been leading by example by making regulations to control global warming.. they haven't done anything effective in that regard.. then comes violence in Sudan, Chad and other African countries.. mindless killings.. maintaing peace in the middle-east or even AIDS control in third-world over-populated nation.. Ditto goes true for OIC.

Re: India's candidate for UN's top post

Look. Lets get a few things clear. The UN is a place where countries sit down and talk about stuff and push their own agendas. The UN has no power per se. "The UN" is the secretariat. You know what that means? When somalia delegate says "jump" they salute and ask "how high". "The UN" has no power whatsoever.

All the power is with the countries. This is a multilateral organization. Not a Supralateral or Supranational organization.

You want anything done at the UN? The countries decide. All 191 members decide what is to be done. Nobody else.,

Re: India's candidate for UN's top post

Sure enough the model sounds right and very democratic- but the results aren't encouraging.. Why aren't the deliverables upto expectations? Why UN and no-UN would not make much difference to the state of the world... difference between the north and the south keeps increasing and so do problems in all third world countries.. I appreciate you giving me UN's role as it is suppose to be but the world needs more than that..

Re: India's candidate for UN's top post

^^^ TRUE

Being nominated and getting support for the same is very different i dont think Dr.Tharoor has a chance here coz the western countries still influance the elections.

Re: India's candidate for UN's top post

Then how come you are only recommneding a Pakistani muslim? Why not a muslim from another country, even US?

Re: India’s candidate for UN’s top post

Coz for him Muslims living in a non-islamic state aren’t pure Muslims:hoonh:
