indians

Someone Close to you has a problem with Indians

I dont tolerate ignorance arrogance etc etc towards any kind of people. And this person irks me with their narrow POV and hate for a certain people.

Funny thing is they think they’re so cool with their stance and I’m defensive about something that theyre right about.

I even came up with a comeback but when the opp came I missed it. Sighhh.

Re: indians

I swear I wanna kick her

Re: indians

I know people like that and trust me, there is nothing you can do to change them.

Re: indians

............

Re: indians

Distance yourself from such people.

Re: indians

That person is very childlish. Like all bigots

Re: indians

What was the comeback.

indians

If it bothers you and they impose their opinion on you as such then be straight up and tell them you don't agree with their views and therefore you can agree to disagree. Know one needs to get into detail about it but if they ask who, what, when, and why you don't agree just simply say that Indians are human too after all. Nationality has nothing to do with an entire group of people. And if they haven't noticed India seems to be doing well for themselves, well better than some of their neighbors.

Re: indians

Someone who hates almost 1/5th of humanity isn't really rational or sensible.

Re: indians

So a Pakistani has a political opinion against India. Well that's 90% of Pakistan for you. And don't think the Indians like us. A friend of mine at work told me recently when we were talking about the bad state of affairs in Pakistan, he says that he wishes well on Pakistan but that everyone in his family in India says Pakistan is deserving what it gets.

There are people there that enjoy seeing us suffer. :( So hate goes both ways.

Actually I don't think there is one neighbor that Pakistan is good friends with. The afghanis hate us, Indians hate us, Bengalis wish we never existed. Maybe the Sri Lankans are cool with us? The Nepali's are pretty chill people, I don't think they could hate anyone. The iranis - I don't think they care about us...they don't really mention us in their speeches.

So either we're hated, or we're invisible to people because we matter that little. :)

Re: indians

Chinese loves us. :biggthumb:

Re: indians

If we were in their way, they wouldn't.

Re: indians

^^ agreed.

As for the issue, OP you will come across many people with prejudices. In a way we all have prejudice. Some handle it well, some just don't. The person who is close to you is either just ignorant or just hasn't lived in a multicultural environment. My advice is just to leave this person alone with their POV and not let it get to you. You won't be able to change how they think by arguing with them.

Re: indians

You haven't met many Indians for sure.

Re: indians

maybe she has met the right type of Indians ;)

Re: indians

I guess having political views either side is fine but that shouldn't translate into intending ill will for the other. So i don't agree with what your colleague's family thinks at all.
I mean there are some on either side who harbour views thatgeneralise. But not all Indians and Pakistanis think thatway. Usually it's only the ones who have not met any Pakistanis/Indiansand have no positive images to counter the negative they see on their media. Not all Indians think that way about Pakistan. I love my Pakistani friendsand i was touched enough by this thread to join gupshup. I defend my Pakistanifriends when people generalise here because media does not show positive imagesof subcontinental countries. I inform them that Pakistani has manybeautiful monuments like the Badshahi mosque, like the remains of ancientcivilisations of Mohenjodaro and Harappa, that the world's first university wasin Taxila etc That it has natural beauty of Swat valley, Gilgit and themountainous peaks of K2. I feel it is also my culture aswell. It is true that there are Indians who generalise about Pakistanisand Pakistan but i stand up to that and inform their views are incorrect andpoint out their prejudice.

Re: indians

Thank you for your kind sentiments Philosophy. It is very generous of you and great that you are trying to counter prejudice. I believe similarly to you and some of my close friends are Pakistani. I also try to counter prejudice where I see it whether among relatives or people i know. It is hard to argue against stubborn and decades long belief but slowly by slowly those views will erode. Sometimes it is easier to try to explain to them patiently and with examples that refute their points. Mention good experiences you have had with Indians which run counter to their beliefs and let them know not everyone is the same. Maybe exposure to an Indian person who runs counter to their beliefs may also change their mind. But as you mention they are close to you so you also don't want to upset them. So all you can do is explain your point of view and hope they understand. Perhaps the person you speak of has faced some prejudice in past or had harsh comments said towards her by someone identifying as Indian. In that case only positive examples can bury away her current impression of Indians.

Re: indians

off topic but there is a place in Bihar, India called Pakistan named after Independence for people who left to go to the other side. Even though its been 70 years it still stays strong and the villagers are proud of the name and don’t wish for it to change. They want relations to improve. Re: indians

I work in IT, I've been over to india a couple of times and there is about 20 of them over here in the UK at the minute working with me and I can safely say none of them are prejudiced against me. I can call all them good friends, we go out together, I go to their apartment for dinner, they come to mine. All great guys ( and girls ), most people who show prejudice and wish ill on people seem to be ill educated .

Siege mentality. Potentially fatal disease. No cure found yet. Can be contagious. Better avoided at all costs.
