Read about the strength of Hinduism, which the Indians claim has sustained itself. They are making laws to ban conversions to stop people leaving Hinduism. And then they blame Pakistan for “ethnic cleansing” :rotfl: after a small incident of a Hindu girl converting for the sake of her love…
Religious rights take a hit in India
**A southern state last week banned ‘forced’ conversions. Critics say it targets minorities.
** CHENNAI, INDIA – Here in India’s southernmost state of Tamil Nadu, a state ordinance banning “forced” religious conversions is setting up the conditions for a clash between the state’s religious minorities and majority Hindu community.
On its face, the new law – which went into effect last Thursday and which punishes offenders with up to four years in prison – does not specify any particular religious group as its target. But members of Tamil Nadu’s small minority communities – Christians, Muslims, and Buddhists – say the law is aimed at preventing lower-caste Hindus from converting to other religions.
Regardless, the debate’s intensity reveals the extent to which religious and caste identity have become driving forces of this country. “In Indian society, there are two registers,” says Dipankar Gupta, an anthropologist at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi. “On the political register, we don’t recognize that the caste system exists, but on the social register, we do see caste differences.”
There’s a moron from california who says that we should change the slogan printed on our money “In God we trust” because it promotes religion and is unconstitutional..
Anyway, I’m kinda stupid :halo: I dont see the problem here. So less lower-caste hindus will be converting to Islam/Christianity/etc? Okay i understand why the Tamil minorities might have an issue with that. But again, forcing someone to convert to another religion is wrong, no?
The Prohibition of Forcible Conversion of Religion Ordinance is only the third of its kind in India. It includes a ban on the use of "allurements" to convert, but fails to define that term or what constitutes forced conversion in general.
"When we are feeding the poor, is that propagating our religion?" asks Bishop Devasagayam. "Anything a Christian does – whether it's teaching in schools or working in hospitals or slums – could be considered an 'allurement' to convert."
Lahore bhai..first you allow conversion for all to any religion in Islam ruled countries and prove that 'There is no compulsion in religion'.....after it will look nice to point out at other countries.
anjjan,
I can give you an example of Pakistan. There is no such “Anti-Conversion” legislation in Pakistan. If you claim there is some restriction from government level on conversions, I urge you to tell us.
Pakistan is a true example of “There is not compulsion in religion”… In the last few years, there have been more than 2500000 conversions to Christianity (although under the allurement of financial benefit) but this is a fact I can present for you.
While to survive, Hinduism needs to make people Hindu and keep them Hindu because you peole count heads but cannot rule the hearts…
loahore dont cry..the tamil nadu govt. had withdrawn this oder one year back. :) . They did it as Bajrang Dal and VHP were making a problem with forcefull conversion. The christians convert some tribals...and the VHP and BajrangDal goes and convert them back again. This is going on in Orissa also. This became a law and order problem and they had to do something about it. Anyway thanks for caring so much about our minorities. Its indeed strange coming from a person who lives in a country where Blasphemy is a sure death sentence.
…
Thanks for admitting the truth. I like this quality of yours.
Jani anjjan jani
I never said this news is latest.
I posted it as a proof that religious converstion is a big problem in India and it is opposed at the government level…
