Cable operators flout ban on Indian channels
LAHORE: Whether it’s because of the demands of fans of Indian soap serials or the business minded cable operators, Indian entertainment channels are back on air in Pakistan despite the ban** imposed on them by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority on the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC).**
Indian TV channels including Star Plus, Colors, Zee Cinema, Star Gold and others are being shown by cable operators on customer demand. In some areas, the logos of these channels have been changed to escape repercussions.
A cable operator in Lahore, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said he had to run his business and couldn’t do it without airing Indian channels. “People were complaining and said that these channels should be shown. They threatened to remove their connections and hire the services of other cable operators who are running Indian channels. “
Local producers and actors were quite happy when the Indian channels went off air, because an increase in the ratings of local entertainment channels was expected as a result of the ban. However, people have had a mixed response about the channels being illegally shown by cable operators.
Farzana Nauman, a house wife, told *The Express Tribune *that the SC orders should be strictly implemented and that Indian channels should not be shown in Pakistan. “These soap serials are just bad entertainment. Young children are learning improper language because of these shows. Soap operas don’t have any theme except inter-family conspiracies and they cater to the taste of a very limited class. This is a very good decision of SC to ban these channels and cable operators must be penalised for illegally showing them,” she said.
Maham Ahmad, another housewife, has different views. She said that Indian channels shouldn’t be banned and the choice should be left to viewers who can decide what to watch and what not. “This is an age of technology. Those who cannot watch Indian channels through cable can do it through satellite dishes. Are we only trying to deprive poor people from the entertainment they like?” she questioned.
Cable Operators Association Pakistan (CAP) Central President Captain (retired) Jabbar Ahmad Khan told *The Express Tribune *that cable operators had suffered after the ban on Indian channels. “By and large cable operators are not running these channels. Some cable operators might have been running them with altered logos but we are following the orders,” he said. Khan said that people who could afford to were buying satellite dishes and enjoying the channels of their choice but those who had signed up with cable operators were being deprived. He said that cable operators would soon go on strike against the ban on Indian channels. “Our business will shut down if these channels are banned permanently. Currently an average cable operator is showing 60 channels while before the ban he used to show 80 channels,” he said.
Khan also said that the Chief Justice of Pakistan had asked Pemra to make lists of those cable operators who were defaulters, adding that this is going to be very hard time for cable operators.
A Pemra representative told The Express Tribune that Pemra was taking action against cable operators who were defying the ban; including seizing the equipment and revoking the licenses of those found doing so.

Which Indian is whining, can you name a few? Indians dont give a flying flip about the ban. I just gave you the reason why Pakistani channels are banned in India. And of course as usual Pakistanis love to live in denial.

What religious bullcrap on Indian TV channels are you talkign about???
Is displaying of hindu culture to viewers, a religious bullcrap??? Which madrasa did you study in??
You are more than welcome to show Islamic, hindu or buddhist relgion BUT YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO MALIGN ANY RELIGION.
INDIAN TV DOES NOT MALIGN ANY RELIGION, they might promote their own hindu culture but their dont call other religions crap and bull ****.
young lady you can show anything you want on your TV, but DONT CURSE OTHER RELIGIONS ON YOUR TV. When you develop that culture, then we can lift the ban. Till then, lets ban each others TV.
As I've always said Paksitanis are more than welcoem to ban anything they want, but dont question the Indian ban, coz thats none of Pakistans business.
Re: Indian TV channels Has Banned In Pakistan on the orders of the Supreme Court
well then why are you getting hysterical over pakistan's ban of indian channels, none of your business ether right? calm down man, we are discussing 'entertainment channels' here not current affairs/news channels. if anything, there is a lot of hindu culture shown in our own dramas and lifestyle programming which people are adopting as their own, so no one is putting hindu culture or religion down or 'cursing hindu religion' in our dramas, despite that pak entertainment channels have never even been given the benefit of the doubt in india, despite dramas being in huge demand. geo partnered with times of india with the whole 'aman ki asha' campaign in the hopes of getting airing rights in india but no it didn't work, no room for generating any revenue for pak channels in india, so its only fair if the favour is returned. simple economics.
Re: Indian TV channels Has Banned In Pakistan on the orders of the Supreme Court
Yamahaguy, why do you have so much beef with Pakistani channels when you haven't even watched one for an extended time? This whole thread just wreaks of hatred you feel for Pakistanis in general and it has everything to do with the trashy treatment you receive in India courtesy your fellow citizens, which unfortunately we have nothing to do with, neither do our channels.
I say, get a veggie thaali and switch on your favorite saas-bahu soap on jee teevee! A favorite Indian past-time, whenever they're not bashing Pakistan, I presume?

All my comments have on this thread are related to why Pakistani channels are banned in India. I've not written a single word against the ban on Indian channels, becoz thats Pakistani decision, and thats none of my business......I have seen many talk shows and political commentaries on Pakistani news channels, its very normal to comment agaisnt non muslim relgions.
I dont watch dramas nether Indian nor Pakistani, Its sTaLkEr Bhaijan who loves these saas bahu junk....Its he who gets disturbed by watching culture of non muslims.....becoz he knows best how to shove Islamiyat down the throats of non muslims children in pakistani schools. Indians dont care, if Pakistani muslims make it compulsory for its hindus to study Islamiyat subjects and get extra marks if they cram and mug Quran eMajeed.
Hindus dont shove hindus religious texts down our throats in schools, we dont get extra grades or marks for cramming hindu religious books. So, Mr sTaLkEr go enjoy shoving beef down the throats of hindu boys and girls.
And as far as simple economics is concerned, years ago India has given Most Favored Nation status to Pakistan, Has Pakistan given MFN status to India???
Country which is the recipient of this treatment must, nominally, receive equal trade advantages as the "most favored nation" by the country granting such treatment.
In effect, a country that has been accorded MFN status may not be treated less advantageously than any other country with MFN status by the promising country.

^^ Send your whole laundry list of complains to the relevant government ministry please. If your past list of grievances is morphing into hatred for Pakistani media, you need a shrink urgently.

Thank you so much for at least recognizing that we (indian muslims) have relevant govenrment ministry, where we can complain.
What about lesser known Pakistanis (hindus and others)? Where do they lodge their complaints, if they dont want to study subjects like Islamiyat in your schools? Where do they go, if Islam forcibly is shoved down the non muslim throats of young kids?
BTW, are their any jews in Pakistan??? Can a proud jew ever be a proud Pakistani??
What about you, I never asked your religion??
