Indian TV channels Has Banned In Pakistan on the orders of the Supreme Court

LAHORE: After Indian TV channels were taken off air by the Pakistan Electronic Media and Regularity Authority (Pemra) on the orders of the Supreme Court, people have no choice left but to watch local entertainment channels.

But the move may turn out to be a blessing for them.

Cable operators told* The Express Tribune* that they had been receiving phone calls from clients to increase the number of Pakistani entertainment channels, adding that people asked them to show those local TV channels as well which were not in demand earlier. A representative a cable operator association told The Express Tribune that women mostly watched Indian television channels, especially for soap operas, and after the closure of Indian channels, they had switched over to local channels. “It is the end of Ramazan right now and people tend to watch fewer TV shows at this time. It is expected that ratings of the local entertainment channels will improve after Ramazan,” another cable operator believed.

Veteran playwright Munnu Bhai believes that a ban of the Indian TV channels was very much needed. “People say that Indian channels are very popular in Pakistan. I elaborate this ‘popularity’ with an example. If 500 dogs in Lahore die after eating some poisonous herbs, it doesn’t mean dogs like herbs. It only means that dogs are hungry.”

“If Indian dramas are watched here, it doesn’t mean they are very good dramas or people are crazy about it. It only means that people want to watch dramas,” he said.

He believed that Pakistani playwrights should focus on realistic concepts.
Actor and producer Samina Ahmad also believes that young Pakistani playwrights were now focusing on social issues and would capture a larger market easily. She said, “People already say that entertainment channels are becoming popular again as people are bored of watching political talk shows”.
An official of Pemra he said that it was too early to say that rating of local entertainment channels had gone up. “Pemra issues its report of ratings of different television channels on a monthly basis.
The rating might have gone up but we can only officially confirm it after the release of Pemra’s report,” he said.

Munni bhai nai phir apni tarah ghatia baat hi ki hai na. Moron.

I ask what purpose will banning TV channels achieve. Pakistan is acting like that stupid kid whom everyone teases and then he says “DEKH LUN GA TUM SAB KO” but no one cares.

Re: Indian TV channels Has Banned In Pakistan on the orders of the Supreme Court

Reduce domestic saas-bahu fights.

Re: Indian TV channels Has Banned In Pakistan on the orders of the Supreme Court

Actually, don't all those serials portray the *Saas *as the greatest of all human beings, to be obeyed and treated with great respect?

Re: Indian TV channels Has Banned In Pakistan on the orders of the Supreme Court

here we go again.

I am glad they made the move but let's see how long it lasts.

Re: Indian TV channels Has Banned In Pakistan on the orders of the Supreme Court

About time. Though ideally I would like to see sensible Pakistanis shunning them by choice. But I guess the term "sensible Pakistani" has sadly become an oxymoron :)

Re: Indian TV channels Has Banned In Pakistan on the orders of the Supreme Court

Excellent!!!!! Great step taken to stop indian nonsense propaganda. To call it entertainment is a joke because their soaps and movies have far more devious subtext.

India has banned our channels it was about time we banned their propaganda machines. So, good job SC!

Re: Indian TV channels Has Banned In Pakistan on the orders of the Supreme Court

Re: Indian TV channels Has Banned In Pakistan on the orders of the Supreme Court

Good move :k:

Re: Indian TV channels Has Banned In Pakistan on the orders of the Supreme Court

well when i called cable uncle that why he is showing star plus with different label, he said people have great demand for it. we can't stop it.

Re: Indian TV channels Has Banned In Pakistan on the orders of the Supreme Court

Good start. Even though the entertainment, art or fun have similarities but India has used its media to shove its ideas on others in disguise. 'Local' entertainment has already been infiltrated by Indians since some of channels are from Dubai rather from Pakistan.

Re: Indian TV channels Has Banned In Pakistan on the orders of the Supreme Court

Good move it useless crap...

anyways pakistan has become self sufficient in producing junk media we don't indian crap...

Re: Indian TV channels Has Banned In Pakistan on the orders of the Supreme Court

^ haha nice veiled insult. sorry but indian tv still leads in producing junk.

A life sans soap operas

KARACHI: Indian television channels are currently off-air but the demand for soap operas aired on these channels continues.

Taken off air in compliance with an order by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, cable operators in Karachi have no choice but to comply with the ruling. According to Salman from Multi Plus Communication, a cable operator which supplies services to residents of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, “These Indian channels have no licenses, the Supreme Court says that having a TV license is mandatory (to air programming in the country), once the license gets made they too would be on air.”

When asked about viewer demands, Salman said, “I don’t know about the ratings but people only watch these Indian channels.”

A representative of Cable Home Vision Communication, which operates in the Cantonment area, told The Express Tribune, “Our approach is to operate as many cable channels as possible. We were still running the Indian channels until a Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) official visited us and told us not to run Indian. So, finally we had to abide by the law”

According to Nasreen at World Call Telecom Limited, “Pemra issued the order that no legal telecom service provider can show Indian Channels on TV, hence we are following the rules.” However, another representative said that there was a number of requests being received for Indian plays.
According to another operator, “Clients are forwarding requests to allow the channels to air.”

“There is a relatively high demand from women, who cannot survive for even a day without Indian channels and soap operas,” says Salman. “We do not want to lobby against the decision as talks are underway between the government agency and the cable operators association.”

According to Cable Home Vision, “There is a big market for Indian TV channels, and the decision affects our operations in the vicinity where we operate in, but one cannot make a move in any direction and lobby for it as the decision needs to be abided by.”

Re: Indian TV channels Has Banned In Pakistan on the orders of the Supreme Court

It is good to stop the import of Indian IQ into Pakistan. I say ban Indian movies too.

Re: Indian TV channels Has Banned In Pakistan on the orders of the Supreme Court

better late than never!!

Re: Indian TV channels Has Banned In Pakistan on the orders of the Supreme Court

Too bad Pakistanis couldn't choose for themselves cuz they love to watch crap on Indian channels. Ghatia tareen Indian movie becomes a hit In Pakistan but a half decent Pakistani movie is made fun of. Any good actor/ model Paksiatnis is criticize kay he/ she is a "copy" of some 3rd class Indian celebrity. I say let pakistani chqannels play out in India, then have indian channels played on pakistani chanels ( which they were quite liberally) , and let people choose. UNfortunately after years of airing indian channels on Pakistani channels nothing good came from it xcept decline in Pakistani taste and language!

Re: Indian TV channels Has Banned In Pakistan on the orders of the Supreme Court

While you generally hit the right note, the fact remains that Indian cinema has not exactly enjoyed a bumper theatrical run in Pakistan. Most of their movies have bombed -- the only film which clicked in the last two years was some picture about a muslim in the States, a theme which would naturally resonate with Pakistanis.

Also, Indian movies come cheap to the distributors, even relative to Pakistani movies which have a higher price as Pakistan is their main market.
