Indian troops fire into crowds, result in casualties

Army blows myth of separatists

Pioneer News Service | New Delhi

The 300-km long national highway linking Jammu with Srinagar and the lifeline for people living in the Kashmir valley has been cleared of all disruptions by the Army from August 4 onwards to help movement of goods to and fro from the Valley in the backdrop of the ongoing Amarnath shrine land agitation.

The all-party delegation, which visited Srinagar over the weekend, was also informed by the State Government that there was no economic blockade on the national highway and trucks were moving without hindrance.

Elaborating on the efforts undertaken by the Army, an official spokesman on Tuesday said the Army escorted a total of 10,389 vehicles on the National Highway-1A, the only surface link between the Kashmir valley and the rest of the country, over the past eight days since troops were deployed on the highway on August 4.

He said the Army was deployed on Jammu-Pathankot and Jammu-Srinagar highways to ensure smooth movement of trucks, including petrol tankers, carrying essential supplies to the Kashmir valley and other parts of the State and fruits, especially apples, from Srinagar to other States.

Giving a break-up of the number of vehicles escorted, he said 2,263 loaded trucks, 487 empty trucks, 764 buses, 97 oil tankers, 58 Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder-carrying trucks and 1,212 light vehicles from Jammu to Srinagar were safely escorted.

The traffic from Srinagar to other parts of the country included 1,743 loaded trucks, 460 empty trucks, 961 buses, 164 oil tankers, 22 LPG and 2,165 light vehicles, he said, adding the sincere and constant work of the Army under a tense situation ensured movement of regular supplies on the national highway.

Meanwhile, the State Government briefed the all-party delegation, which visited the Valley recently, that there was no economic blockade and there were sufficient number of trucks available in the Valley to transport fruits to other parts of the country.

“It came to our notice that there were 30 truck loads of fruits available in the Kashmir market for transportation. The administration made available 90 trucks to the local vendors. But they did not use it under fears from separatists,” a member of the delegation told The Pioneer.

People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti and some Hurriyat leaders had reportedly asked local traders to march towards Muzaffarabad (in PoK) with their produce (fruits).

The initial disruption in the traffic, sources pointed out, was mainly because truck drivers from Punjab, a few of whom were beaten up when they entered the valley, refused to operate.

It is reported that Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal immediately spoke to them and the situation turned normal.

Re: Indian troops fire into crowds, result in casualties

^
Nothing but Indian lies. The army can claim whatever it wants...there are shortages of everything from drugs to paper in Kashmir thanks to the blockade.

Meanwhile the Indian terrorists have murdered at least 27 unarmed protesters, including women and children, over the past two days...it seems like India is bent on showing the entire world what a nation of criminals and terrorists it is.

Re: Indian troops fire into crowds, result in casualties

Even if the news is/was true. It took the precious lives of many who were martyred while voicing their frustration. Shooting at unarmed civilians is no show of power or might no matter where you live or what the spin on the issue maybe.

Not a good thing at all. It would be fair to say, "The damage has been done".

Take if from Kashmiri (me) Kashmir was never & will never be part of hindu terrorist sate. We DO NOT want to be part of your fascist nation & we will liberate our people & land from terrorist hindu army. Mark my words!!!

Kashmir is /was a part of Indian main land. Read some history (the Histtory kasmir is well written. All major indian literature has redfernce to this paradise) You learn from history if you can... Only after this bloody religion so many divisions so many countries....idiotic religion with truly idiotic followers!!

It's still a big deal. The difference is that in Lebanon, Gaza, etc, it's non-state militias doing it.

However, in India and Indian-occupied land, the government's own security forces are shooting unarmed Muslims. The government's right hand, which carries out the government's bidding, is shooting into unarmed crowds of Muslims.

And this repeatedly happens, year after year, decade after decade. Taxpayer-funded men, who receive orders from voter-elected officials, are shooting unarmed Muslims and choosing not to protect them. Be it Kashmir or be it Gujrat or be it elsewhere, examples keep popping up.

That is why I'm grateful for Jinnah. 1971 keep getting thrown at Pakistan, but that was one year of mistakes, by one government.

One thing that doesn't change in India. Though the people of its Hindu-dominated government change after every election, each new government continues to oversee security forces that kill unarmed Muslims.

After killing 10s of 1000s of Kashmiris over last 15 years your terrorist army is still far from subduing Kashmiris zeals for freedom. What makes you think you can do it now? And, Kashmir will never be part of your terrorist/fascist nations of baboons.

Kashmir protests spread to Indian cities

By AIJAZ HUSSAIN – 2 hours ago

SRINAGAR, India (AP) — Riots erupted across Indian-controlled Kashmir on Wednesday as Muslims mourned 15 people killed in a day of bloody violence, as the protests spread to other parts of India.

Violence has roiled the Himalayan region since June 23 when Muslims and Hindus began tit-for-tat protests over a government proposal to transfer land to a Hindu shrine in India’s only Muslim-majority state.

In the town of Kishtwar, where Hindus and Muslims clashed Tuesday leaving two dead, police said they would shoot anyone violating a curfew. Kishtwar is some 155 miles north of Jammu, the region’s only majority Hindu city.

The police have been ordered to shoot protesters on sight in Kishtwar, according to Hemant Lohia, a senior police officer. “This last option becomes the first in order not to let the situation go out of hand.”

In Srinagar, the main city in the region, several thousand protesters took to the streets, attacking police posts and chanting slogans calling for revenge.

“Blood for blood” and “We want freedom,” they chanted as they ransacked sandbagged police bunkers across the city. There were also reports of protests in other cities across Kashmir as special prayers were being held in mosques and homes for those killed on Tuesday, the bloodiest day since the unrest started.

Police fired at hundreds of rock-throwing protesters at Fateh Kadal, a suburb in Srinagar, said a police officer on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak with media. Three people were wounded, he said.

There were no other immediate reports of casualties.

Separatist political leaders called for three days of mourning and urged people to keep their protests peaceful.

“Kashmiris will continue to agitate peacefully and we should not give Indian oppressors any chance to use brute force,” said Mirwaiz Omer Farooq, a separatist leader.

On Wednesday, the protests spilled over to other parts of India, with Hindu nationalist groups blocking traffic and railway lines for several hours in New Delhi, Mumbai and the tourist hub of Agra, home to the Taj Mahal.

In New Delhi and Mumbai several dozen activists from the World Hindu Organization, known as the VHP, blocked roads for up to two hours, demanding that the land allocated to the shrine be restored. The plan had been shelved after widespread Muslim protests.

“The central government must give the land to the Amarnath shrine board. Otherwise, our protest will continue,” said VHP General Secretary Pravin Togadia, warning that they would launch a "nationwide movement. "

Some 50 protesters were detained in Mumbai, said police officer Pran Gokhale.

Meanwhile, in Agra, activists blocked railway lines for several hours disrupting rail schedules across northern India, said railway official Nirmal Sharma.

Earlier Wednesday, thousands of people streamed out of their homes to buy supplies as authorities relaxed a curfew for several hours.

The lockdown, the first to be imposed across the entire Kashmir region in 18 years, was ordered after separatist leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz and four others were killed Monday while attempting to march to the Pakistan-controlled portion of Kashmir to protest a blockade by Hindus of the highway linking the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India.

Police shot and killed 15 people Tuesday as thousands took to the streets to protest his death. Some 100,000 people defied the curfew to attend his funeral at the Martyrs Graveyard in Srinagar, vowing to fulfill his legacy and achieve independence for Kashmir from India.

Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan, which have fought two of their three wars over the region and both claim it in its entirety.

More than a dozen Islamic militant groups have been fighting since 1989 for Kashmir’s independence or its merger with Pakistan. More than 68,000 people have been killed in the fighting.

The protests have crystalized anti-Indian feeling in Kashmir just as Indian forces appeared to be gaining an upper hand in their nearly two decade fight against the region’s separatist rebels.

We will but only if there is a legitimate reason. The crowd was repeatedly warned and no country can allow people crossing international border without valid reasons.

Sad in deaths but pls understand that the security forces stationed in Kashmir do not belong to Indians from other regions only but include Kashmiris also. When you dare to transgriss certain laws and rules, you need to prepare for the repercussions aswell.

12 Are Killed as Pakistani Police Fire on Kashmiris Marching Toward Border

Alarmed over the possibility of conflict with India, Pakistan violently halted a march today by Kashmiri separatists trying to enter the Indian-controlled portion of Kashmir.

“The insistence of Mr. Amanullah to lead some innocent Kashmiris to the Indian firing line across the line of control is like throwing innocent people into the fire,” he said, his voice subdued, his words chosen carefully. "The Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir is therefore taking all possible measures to prevent these people from crossing the line of control

Re: Indian troops fire into crowds, result in casualties

^^ dude hindus broke the law in jammu and there were casualties there also and we didnt condemn that too. The point is to follow the law or face punishment.

marching in protest is against the law? :hmmm:

Re: Indian troops fire into crowds, result in casualties

Marching to corss the border when a curfew is imposed is against the law

Re: Indian troops fire into crowds, result in casualties

Pakistan should resume supporting the freedom fighters in Kashmir, even if some of them are a little naraz at us for bombing them a little bit. it should be emphasised however that innocent civilians should never be a target.

Iam not sure if my condemnations will be taken seriously by the terrorists :)
