International backlash? Where? Crap on twitter doesn’t count as international backlash. The bottom line is that there was a violent encounter between prisoners which fatally wounded one prisoner who happened to be a convicted Indian terrorist and the jail staff failed to prevent this from happening. Why should it be any more complicated than that? Please do tell me who are these moral authorities of the world that have the audacity to point fingers at the entire nation of Pakistan when this happens in their own prisons all the time except it doesn’t get as much media coverage because no one gives a damn about those prisoners, it’s only a big deal when it’s a high profile inmate who gets killed and then apparently we all have to be super hyper.

Guantanamo and Bagram… , unfortunately people have selective memory that is only regionally active.

However bad this man was, this incident should not have happened and could have been avoided with better security or by puting him in solitary confinement

But at the same time one must not generalize that things in Pakistan jails are bad

Watch Surjeet's video that I have posted above and the one posted by Shamraz. He says himself that indian prisoners in Pakistani jails are treated much better than Pakistani prisoners in indian jails (post #76 bottom video @ 02:51) and that he was very well looked after in jail, food was excellent, served meat 5 times a week!!! Although he was tortured by Pakistan army after being arrested in 1982 (for 4 years from 1982-85), Surjeet was never tortured in jail.

and no, his life is no more valuable than anyone else but in such highly sensitive cases you provide extra security to avoid such incidences to save your country's goodwill and to avoid international backlash....you never ever let an easy access to such spy criminals....israel keeps such spy criminals in complete confinement..USA does the same...either keep them in solitary confinement or hang them ASAP after conviction....what happened in Pakistani jail with this guy is either a complete incompetence or a conspiracy ...

And how come Auntie Asma Jahangir hasn't come on TV pulling her hair as is expected of her in these situations? :)

Unfortunate thing about Pakistan is, it's full of Ansar Burneys who are only too happy to get convicted spies released only to have them openly boast about them being spies once they cross the border. Enough!

I could not agree more. Likes of Asma Jahangirs, Owish Sheiks, and Burney should have been sent to India along with the dead terrorist. Whats more amusing is that Indians crying all over the internet. Afzal Guru was hanged based on circumstantial evidence & his family was not even informed. They never returned his body to his family, and buried him in the jail. Now, they're crying about dead convicted terrorist. Indian hypocrisy knows no bounds!

Sarabjit was sentenced based on a bus conductor's testimony. It seems that the conductor remembered Sarabjit singh placing the bag somewhere. I really salute the memory of the conductor and it is a shame that he is working as a conductor. He should have been in the Intelligence (Or lack of ) department. If a person is able to identify one person among hundreds of passenger, he should damn well be super intelligent.

I believe Pakistani Jail authorities need to beef up their security measures and separate the foreign inmates for the time-being. It's a catch 22. If you separate them, you risk exposing them as being targets, if you don't confine them for their own safety, you risk them being attacked as an act of vengeance.

Pakistani jails should consider more internal jail officers patrolling inside the premises as rapid response teams to thwart any violence whatsoever.

If he had been kept in solitary confinement than you would have been complaining that how uncivilised we are that we keep these people in isolation and we Pakistanis are barabric indulging in such practices. No satisfying some people.

lol..no i wont be complaining that...it is a general pattern globally that foreign spy agents or terrorits are always kept in confinement away from normal inmates..israel has been doing it for a long time...now of-course a normal but illegal indian fisherman, a smuggler or an Indian drug dealer can be kept with normal inmates in pakistan...i mean yeah he can be attacked as well but at least it wont get so much international attention plus our criminals probably do not want to attack smugglers, drug dealers and what not...if anything they would like to develop a bond and relationship to expand their criminal activities across the border....but when they see someone like qasab or sarabjeet , chances are much higher for emotions to get out of control...plus these type of criminals have some serious national implications with many secrets.

^ and you don't know what happens to spies in Israili or American jails. Or wait, many time pictures has been leaked on how 'civil' prisoners were treated by american soldiers/jailers. So yeah, most probably you will never hear back about what happened to those people.

They still have a chance to be transparent, and ensure that all other Pakistani prisoners are properly secured.

As an Indian friend suggested so earnestly "Send them back to Pakistan until out of danger." :)
