Young paceman Avishkar Salvi and Delhi opener Gautam Gambhir were among the four new faces included today in the 15-member Indian cricket squad for the triangular one-day series to be held in Dhaka from April 11 to 20.
The youngsters have been rewarded for their consistent performances in recent times, Cricket Board secretary S K Nair told reporters here.
Dashing opener Virender Sehwag was appointed the vice-captain of the team, which also has Abhijit Kale and Amit Mishra as the other two new faces.
With many of the seniors in India’s World Cup squad opting out of the tour, the national selectors preferred to go for youngsters who have performed creditably during India A’s recent tour of the West Indies.
Star batsman Sachin Tendulkar, vice-captain Rahul Dravid and paceman Ashish Nehra had made themselves unavailable for the tour due to injuries. Both Tendulkar and Dravid were carrying finger injuries while Nehra has been ruled out of action for at least five months because of an ankle injury.
Pace spearhead Javagal Srinath was keen to take rest while leg spinner Anil Kumble skipped the trip due to “personal reasons”.

Good chances for the youngsters, my Indian friend says that this Avishkar guy is almost as fast as Shoaib, lets see if its true.
Wise decision to make Sehwag vice captain, I think he will be future captain to his team.
Yuvi is better than kaifi as prospect for a future captain; as we need someone extrovert , not an introvert and shy person. And I too dont understand why sehwag was made vice captain Yuvi is senior to him in team , I guess !
I dont know about extrovert/Introvert - I was saying this because Kaif has lead India under-19 team before and seems to be an Intelligent & responsible players unlike Sehwag. The more I watch him , the more he reminds me of Afridi.
It should be about Grooming a future captain and not just seniority. Kumble is Senior to Both Dravid & Ganguly, but he cant be made captain just because he is senior.
Sehwag being VC is because of his performance? or his "intelligence"? As Asif mentioned, if Kaif has already performed as Captain to A team, than I think he is a better candidate for future captaincy unless his inclusion in team is not cemented yet.
Yeah u r right :k: thats y gibbs is not the captain of SA. So Sehwag is out of the question. But comparing between kaifi and Yuvi , I think, Yuvi would be a better candidate for captaincy, as we have seen an an intovert captain in Sachin and see How gangs is making impact , being just outspoken and harsh , when needed.
First of all how do you know Kaif is Introvert.Kaif is very extrovert and has a good record of captaanship both in Ranji and Junior India , where as Yuvraj has failed as captain in Irani trophy and was not impressive at all.
Anyway Sehwag is also ok.Good thinking by Indian selector by giving chance to Gambhir and Avishkar. But cant understand the reason behind giving chance to oldies like Kale. They should have picked Akash Chopra or Rayudu.I wanted to see I Pathan also in team.
Umair,
Whoever told you that Abishkar is as fast as Shoib is a lier.He is just a decent prospect.Bowled very well in Ranji and Indian ‘A’ tour.
I dunno much about the past records of these two, kaifi and yuvi. But I said , what I felt. Well I too wanted to see Pathan and Sodhi in the team. May be , as pitch is gonna favor spinners , they didn't pick many pacies. But Sodhi would have been a good choice :(
Sehwag maybe aggressive and sometimes he get carried away with shot selections but I think he will be a good captain for India in the future, Yuvraj and Kaif also look very possible.

I do agree that Kaif could have been a good choice but I am not sure if his place is still PAKKA in team.
Comparing Sehwag with Afridi is the dumbest thing I ever heard.Have you seen kind of shorts he plays.its true that he gets carried away but its just immaturity. For God's sake guy has scored 5 centuries in just 1.5 years most of them outside India. He has brilliant shots, great eyes, and never plays pre-meditated shots.
yeah agreed :k: Sehwag has class and agression both. He is not mere a pinch hitter. Ofcourse he 's young and immatured, but he’s a great bastman in making :k:
I think this is a temporary appointment and is there only for Dhaka Tournament because Dravid is not going there. In the absense of Dravid & Sachin I am sure Kaif's place is guarnteed in the XI. Kaif is a very good prospect for India both in Tests and ODIs. He has the temperament, technique and above all willingness to learn, Improve and perform at the top level. He is also very humble unlike the loud mouth Sehwag.
I agree I got little carried away by comparing Sehwag with Afridi, I was very dissapointed with his performance in the world Cup. He was our in form batsman in NZ and in the world cup he looked so good only to throw his wicket in most of the games.
