Indian/Pakistani Accent

…hurts my ears. How could Urdu/Hindi be such a sweet language and the speakers of that language sound so terrible when speaking English?

Modified: Is it because of the British?

Re: Indian/Pakistani Accent

**I can Vaak Hinglish , I can Taak Hinglish because you see Hinglish iz a phunny language …

Its got nothing to do with the British , its got to do with purely desi mentality which has trouble embracing their desiness…

I for one think my Pakistani accent is just adorable :snooty:

Re: Indian/Pakistani Accent

It has got nothing to do with the British (i actually didnt understand what you mean with that).

I have no accent at all when i speak other european languages. But when i speak english i have that pakistani/indian accent. You can hear it very clearly.

But it definitely doesnt hurt my ears.

Re: Indian/Pakistani Accent

make a gora talk in urdu.........and see if that soothes your ears or not....

Re: Indian/Pakistani Accent

These people are cool :k:

Although the second one will be considered paindu by some folks here :halo:

Re: Indian/Pakistani Accent

Exactly what Nomi said!

Besides if you're a desi, there is no fun in speaking angraizi without an accent.

Re: Indian/Pakistani Accent

How can we compare urdu and hindi with english? Completely different alphabates, sounds n all. Even the speakers of the languages that share the same alphabates as English e.g. Spanish sound totally different when speaking in English. For example, they pronounce T and D with the tip of their tongue unlike how an English person would say Tomorrow or Door. A Spanish person would say Doorrr (with a soft D and exaggerated rrr sound) or Tu-morrow (with a soft T). A desi person would say Tu-marrow (with a tough T). Urdu/Hindi have some tough-sounding alphabates and this toughness shows in the desi accent when they speak English and that is why it sounds funny/painful. :hehe: Even Arabic is a whole lot softer than urdu. The English-speaking lot are quite pathetic at speaking other languages too. They can’t even get other people’s names right :vivo:

Re: Indian/Pakistani Accent

Yes you are adorable and your Pakistani accent is adorable.

A simple question for Pak One.
Which English accent does not hurt your ear ?
Australian , British, American , South African ? There is no one universal English accent after the fall of British Empire. Live with it. :mad3:

Re: Indian/Pakistani Accent

It hurts my ears too when goras try to speak urdu. Horrible accent.

Re: Indian/Pakistani Accent

Pakistani english accent is slightly better but i cant stop laughing when i listen to some one speaking english in typical indian accent (example Tennis wali bhabhi Sania Mirza)

Re: Indian/Pakistani Accent

It hurts even more when I hear a fake accent, a Pakistani or Indian trying to speak in British or American accent.

Re: Indian/Pakistani Accent

we call them Kathay Angraiz :D

Re: Indian/Pakistani Accent

Guys no need to get all defensive. I would post a Russell Peters video but it has curse words in it.

I mentioned the British because of the colonial history. Although many of the Indian/Pakistani elites that have been educated in Britain, tend to have that King's English accent, which is quite charming.

Re: Indian/Pakistani Accent

I think all of the accents that you have mentioned are fine. I guess that chavvy accent up North (England) is as bad the Indian/Pakistani accent. I find the Scottish accent to be hilarious.

Hey the accent only hurts my ears, but those poor speakers are the one getting ignored/passed over in their careers – so who is really suffering?

Re: Indian/Pakistani Accent

Accent does not hurt anybody's career. The lack of motivation or lack of right skills needed to enhance your career does. If you know how to play the corporate game then nothing can stop you from moving up the ladder.

I know lot of folks high up the desi food chain who have desi accents .

Re: Indian/Pakistani Accent

Uh no..

Name one Indian CEO that has the Indian accent? and I am not talking about that King’s English/Indian accent either.

Re: Indian/Pakistani Accent

accent does not matter as long as your pronunciation is ok.

Re: Indian/Pakistani Accent

The Scottish British accent hurts my ears.

Re: Indian/Pakistani Accent
