Muhammad Ajmal Khan, the federal culture minister said that earlier this month, a meeting had been held in Islamabad between key film industry figures and government officials. “The screening of Indian movies was discussed at the meeting,” he said.
He said that the government had “in principle” agreed to screen Indian movies in Pakistan and it was expected that five Indian films would be screened in the first week of April.
He said that the final decision to screen Indian films would be made by the prime minister. “He (the prime minister) will be briefed on the issue at the end of this month,” said the minister.
We will screen Indian movies in Pakistani theatres only on one condition. They also have to screen Pakistani movies in their jails to punish their prisoners.
It’s a pity that most people rely on such awful stereotypes when it comes to Pakistani films. Have you guys even gone through the experience of watching a some 3 hour Pak films, paying the full ticket, in a theatre?

^^ First we need to start making good movies then end of stereotyping will follow. These moviemakers make a good laugh out of themselves. Yes I have gone thorough the experience of watching a 3 hour film and I loved it because it wasn’t a Pakistani film. It’s an excruciating pain even to watch one hour of lollywood crap, so 3 hours is out of question. .
It’s pretty apparent that you just want to bash for the sake of bashing. Pakistani films are just so easy to bash - we love to hate whatever we have, even when it’s good. Agreed that a lot of the local films wouldn’t even suit my taste, but then they have made some worthwhile stuff which is miles ahead of the trash Bollywood shows you in terms of content. They really don’t have the means nor the expertise to improve on the treatment/presentation etc. but that’s understandable, even then these guys haven’t done a bad job. A lot of Pak films have been plagiarised, and presented to you guys in a brand new bottle, which the masses have eagerly gulped down.
It’s a full circle. People bash Pak movies, the better cinema which comes out gets ignored in the process too, so really the movie folks don’t have the incentive to give you better films, coz the complainers keep sitting in their comfy confines rather than braving the theatres and actually watching these films. So it would help if we just stop complaining and instead do something about it. It’s almost as if we take pride in reviling our own stuff :sigh:
Who is complaining? At least I am not. I couldn’t care less about that lollywood crap that is endlessly trying to be like bollywood. They don’t portray or represent our Islamic culture and society like the movies of Iran so why should I care enough to complain about it? The reason I am posting on this topic is because it a whole lot of fun to ridicule that lollywood garbage.

Bollybuster-- You bash indian movies just for the sake of it. But you dont want anyone to bash Pakistani movies just because of the fact that they are pakistani? Let me ask you, which part of pakistan or culture lollywood movies represent apart from the movie names or star casts? Time to call spade a spade. Bollywood movies are trash (read so called soft-porn stuff) but sometimes they still produce stuff a hell lot better than Pakistani ones. The day Pakistani movies start tryig to be different more frequently than forumla stuff, I will be the first one to put my hands up and feel proud of lollywood but till then they deserve criticism as much as bollywood movies and you can trash bollywood as you please but do NOT defend pak movies just because they have lollywood name associated with it.
Regarding the topic of the thread: It is all because of the so called goodwill gestres and flagging cinema industry because of empty shows. BUT it is no good for lollywood as they will try to follow the lines of bollywood even more and will lose their identity )or the lack of it) even further.
But when people can rent these Bollywood movies from the store but can’t watch it in a cinema shows hypocrisy. The government needs to be consistent.
If this goes forward one can hope that Bollywood aiming for the considerably large market in Pakistan will stop producing anti-Pakistan movies and trend will change to a more friendliar tone. And as much as both sides of the border are glued to the screen for movies, it might actually change mass attitudes .. but it could be my wishful thinking.

I for one am quite fed up with this loving-all-bollywood-trash-hating-all-pak-“crap” attitude. Bashing Pak films for the sake of bashing them. I dont know about you, but most of the poeple who critcise Pak films haven’t even sat through one in a long long time. You have to SEE the cinema to really know what it’s like. Just sitting there and throwing dirt on it is pretty stupidwhen you don’t even know what it’s like. Saby, there ARE many trash movies that Lahore makes, but then thats only half the picture. What about the countless good ones they’ve made? Can you discredit them? Are they NOT Lahore based productions?
By a vague-ish estimate, I can say ratio of the “good”, watchable Lahore based productions relative to the total stuff they churn out is almost just equal to the proportion in which Bollywood turns out it’s better movies. And what’s that like? I dont think even Bollywood comes out with 5 decent movies out of the thousand something they make each year!

Part of the reason this industry is in sh** is because of the way with Pakistanis tend to patronise the really sloppy Bollywood films. The film makers have a convenient excuse that this is what the masses demand, so they give it to 'em. Wholesome repackaged Bollywood crap. If only people were more SMART, would they realise what a bunch of useless trash these movies are. It’s gone on to televisoin now, with the meri-saas-ko-murder-kardo waaley “soaps” being aped idiotically left right and center. And the people lap it up…
As far as Pakistani culture is concerned, YES Pak films have been pretty much grounded in the real values. Go watch Choorian (if you can figure the Punjabi) or Yeh Dil Aap Ka Huwa and you’ll know what I’m talking about. That WAS Pakistani culture. And I’m talking about 2 of the most succesful films in Pakistan - CHoorian having grossed about 14 Crore will Yeh Dil made about 20 Crore acc to some estimates.
All you Bollyphiles out there will hate this. But hopefully in the end, better sense will prevail.
First of all, let me clarify. I am NOT a bollywood person as such. Yes I watch bollywood movies If I anticipate it to be a good one but that is true for hollywood and lollywood as well. So I think you should nto bracket everyone as bollyphiles whoever disagree with you. By the way I can classify myself as a frequent movie-goer person as we visit cinema whenever possible. So my judgement of movies is not just based on hearsay.
Arent you exaggerating a tad bit? ‘Countless’ good movies? When did that happen? and no I am not talking about box office success. I will give it to yo that Choorian and Yeh Dil aapka hua were good pakistani movies but add a very few and thats about it. Such movies come twice an year (if we are lucky) or once in two years.
I am not commenting on that bollywood ratio and Lahore ratio one because everyone has own view abuto a good movie so thats quite a vague picture.
By the way, i am not defending bollywood by any means, my point is that your defence opf Pakistani movies appears a bit light when you trash bollywood for useless baseless stuff.
