Indian movies in Pakistan

Re: Indian movies in Pakistan

Cinema still suffice for working classes who cannot afford vhs and vcds on rent. Therefore Cinema industry will benefit from bollywood movies screening.

Regarding second point, I have recently notcied (if sunday newspapers are to be believed) that there is quite a softer tone in bollywood movies after all those negative crap in post-kargil era.

Re: Indian movies in Pakistan

From the cinema industry perspective, one of the more famous actors in t he Lahore industry commented last week that these guys have made enough money during the cinema boom of the mid 90s, which lasted till like 1999/2000. Now it's payback time and they should show some patience.

This cinema problem is also rather overstated. Fine, if they want to, they can close down. It's only another case when the local films will boom once again [hopefully] they'll all co me back into the business.

Re: Indian movies in Pakistan

I think Pakistan should screen Indian movies with Muslim characters and have a predominantly Muslim background.

Movies like

Nikaah
Chaudivah ka Chaand
Khudagawah
Mehboob Ki Mehndi
Pakeeza

Re: Indian movies in Pakistan

i am really getting confused now-a-days that why our elders and fore-fathers sacrificed so many lives to get their own homeland for them and their coming generations.i agree that most of the people watch indian stuff on cabel or rent but when any matters which gets the confirmation of goverment, its becomes the law and "we respect it at goverment level " type issue.this decision will be good for only cinema- owners and it will completely destroy the industry of film -makers in Pakistan.i firmly agree that iranian movies are the best movies in the world with bapurdh ladies ,without any voilence and stupid special effects.we can follow them because they are close to our culture ,religion and values but No we are even now, mental slaves of india.we are so impressed by them that we cannot see beyond them.i really worried that after few years what would be our indentity as a Pakistanis.yes thats true that Pakistani movies- makers are so illitrete but you know that greatest directors of past in india were also like them .they did not get any formal education but made classics ,so it has nothing to do with it.you can admire someone ,you can like someone but why we hate or dislike or degrade our own people? Most of us are living in other countries because of financially attractive packages.we didnot serve our own countries.we gave our whole abilities to other nations and countries but we find it to easy to critise those people who live in Pakistan.we can do nothing but to give them respect as it is like to respect ourselves also.

Pakistan should lift ban on Indian films: Yash Chopra
Dubai | December 18, 2005 4:35:28 PM IST

Pakistan is making a mistake by not allowing Indian films to be screened there, said ace filmmaker Yash Chopra. Talking to The Gulf Today on the last day of Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) 2005, he said that screening of Indian films would benefit the Pakistan Government, film distributors as well as filmmakers from both countries.

**
‘‘It is a known fact that each and every Pakistani loves to watch Indian films. Since they are not allowed to be screened in theatres, they opt for pirated version of DVDs and VCDs of Indian films,’’ he said.

**
Chopra pointed out, various studies have revealed that the government and film fraternity across the border were losing millions of rupees every year due to the ban on Indian film screenings in theatres.

**
This, the veteran filmmaker said, had created a market for pirated DVDs and VCDs of Bollywood blockbusters.‘‘If the government removes the ban, it will fetch them millions of rupees and also benefit film distributors in Pakistan along with Indian filmmakers,’’ he noted.

He said, the apprehension that the import of Indian films would mar the prospects of Pakistani cinema, was baseless.

‘‘It is wrong. In fact, they will improve if they face competition. The opening up will provide them with the much-needed exposure,’’ he opined.

Chopra pointed out that Pakistan has good writers, good actors, actresses and musicians too. ‘‘Yet they are not doing well because they lack ideas and exposure,’’ he stressed.

According to Chopra, the opening up of the film market will ensure exchange of ideas, talents and expertise, especially ‘‘since we share the same language and culture. This will also ensure success of Pakistani films abroad.’’
