Indian: Hey are you Indian?

Me: Nah man I’m Pakistani.
Indian: Oh yea same thing. =)

NO, crackerjack. It’s not the same thing.

There’s a lot of Indians in the area that I live in. I’m not prejudiced against them or any of that nonsense - I have a handful of Indian pals. But on countless occasions when I have come across an Indian and they feel inclined to ask me if I’m Indian, and I’ve responded that I’m Pakistani, some will say “oh yea same thing”. I appreciate the effort they are making to mend the broken relationship between Indians in Pakistanis, but I think that for having our forefathers fight and die for our country and eventually winning our independence and becoming a seperate nation, the least they could do is acknowledge the fact that Pakistan is not the “same thing” as India. Our culture is nearly the same but our principles (Pakistani’s being based on Islamic teachings) are very different and it is that what truly defines a person.

So, no. It’s not the same thing.

Re: Indian: Hey are you Indian?

Awww there there. Next time you do this

You: Hey are you Paki?
Them: No, i’m Indian.

You: Hmm..Funny. You look kinda paki, with the light skin and all. :clown:
Them: Um..yea North indian have light skin.

You: Oh, Are you Sikh?
Them: No, i’m Hindu.

You: Oh ok. Well, SatSariyakaal. See ya around

Tadaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

PS: I have a handful of indian buddies too.

Re: Indian: Hey are you Indian?

maybe he meant to say we're both desis or our cultures are similar rather than what he ended up saying.

sometimes people mess up the words when they're nervous....I've personally never heard any indian say the "oh yea same thing " comment in terms of Indians and Pakistani.

Re: Indian: Hey are you Indian?

yea i wanna slap them in the face and tell them "you don’t own us anymore, foo’! :phati: "

:>

Re: Indian: Hey are you Indian?

with whats going on in Pakistan

I much rather be mistaken for an Indian than a Pakistani

Re: Indian: Hey are you Indian?

:hayaa: Should i pinch myself now, or save it for later?

Re: Indian: Hey are you Indian?

no no but it's not just one instance. if it had only happened once I wouldn't have opened a thread on this and considered it an issue. It's happened several times. And yea saying we're both desis is fine but specifically addressing Pakistan as being the same thing as India is incorrect.

Re: Indian: Hey are you Indian?

Yes well these days I’m not a Pakistani either, I’m an American. :halo:

Re: Indian: Hey are you Indian?

^
yeah u become pakistani only when its time to screw the ppl back home and rest of the time u do that just by being an angelish american. :chai:

Re: Indian: Hey are you Indian?

:hehe:

Re: Indian: Hey are you Indian?

If thats coming from HS students/non-desis, i wouldn’t dig that deep into it. they just don’t know better. if its coming from uncles… i’d wonder why a strange uncle is talking to a HS girl :cheegum:

Re: Indian: Hey are you Indian?

^ nah not HS students man like the first time I got it from someone was at a Subway from this one Uncle but he was a nice guy not like creepy or anything and then one time this cell phone guy at the mall asked me and then once I got it from an IT support person on the phone (I guess he figured I was desi from my name)

Re: Indian: Hey are you Indian?

how irrelevant. you do realize that your post has absolutely nothing to do with what we’re talking about, right? it’s okay. no matter. i’ll just ignore it. =]

Re: Indian: Hey are you Indian?

uncle will be a pervert for talking to a HS girl and girl will be a pervert for listening to an uncle [assuming both are strangers to each other]. :chai:

Re: Indian: Hey are you Indian?

I say

"Yeah I know same thing" :D

Re: Indian: Hey are you Indian?

okay what is your problem? can you not have a civilized argument with a person without taking things personally if someone disagrees with you?

and if you think it’s pervy for ANY older male to talk to me or for me to listen, then would that not classify you as a pervert yourself (not to mention constantly taunting me when clearly I don’t care so much for your input).

Re: Indian: Hey are you Indian?

when I use to work at the store so many sardar didn't know
I was paki. They usually bring along a friend who knew little english then they go "eeno pooch ky -------------"(getting their friend to translate panjabi to english)
"aach eey ki keenda"
Not knowing that I knew panjabi lol.
I never told them either.

Re: Indian: Hey are you Indian?

ok i wanna know how exactly you ended up meeting only the catty sikhs!!
You've had only bad experiences with them it's seems

can you translate the punjabi to english? I'm not sure but it seems like catty stuff:D

Re: Indian: Hey are you Indian?

indo I live in mini punjab brampton.
Not too far from grudawara, delt with them on daily basis.

Re: Indian: Hey are you Indian?

i know the feeling.
many ppl here dont even bother to ask if u r indian or paki they just foce u into being indian. i hate that kind.
when u tell them u r not indian they go like yeah same thing.
i just wanna ask tose ppl that how much u know about us?
what u know about our country?
wat u know about our culture?
so u dont have any right to say that its the same.
ask them wat will they feel like if sum1 say that they r israelis.
it cud be the same thing too.
then y pakis and indians r suppose to be same?
