Polling is underway with ‘young India’ not expected to turn out in full force. Blame it on heat or apathy. Does it really matter who wins the race? As long as economic progress continues and peace with the neighbors is not reversed, may the best man win!
Polls are being held for all 26 parliamentary seats in Gujarat, 24 out of 48 in Maharashtra, 21 out of 42 in Andhra Pradesh, 15 out of 28 in Karnataka, 11 out of 40 in Bihar, 11 each in Chhattisgarh and Orissa, six each in Assam and Jharkhand and two each in Jammu and Kashmir and Meghalaya and one each in Manipur, Mizoram, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

So to our indian guppies, who do you guys think will win the race, BJP or Congress, and is BJP going to secure that all important muslim vote?...

No..They wont get Muslim Vote. You have toi understand that when BJP is trying to woe Muslim vote actually they are woeing secular Hindu vote by saying that "Look we want Muslims too".Deep down BJP knows that It is impossible for them to get Muslim votes.
and YES BJP and its allies are going to comeback in power.
NEW DELHI: Early analyses on news channels on TV have given BJP an early lead in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections held on Tuesday.
Sahara TV’s exit poll showed BJP-led coalition bagging 82 seats out of 140 constituencies that went to polls on Tuesday. Congress was seen getting 55, and others 3.
Another news channel, Star TV, also gave 78 seats for BJP and its allies, while Congress and its allies got 55 seats.
The tally is marginally down from the coalition’s 1999 position of 88 seats. Sahara has put Congress and its allies at 55.
However, Aaj Tak gave BJP a big lead with 93 seats out of the 140 seats, while Congress was seen getting 44 seats only.
Channel BJP+ Congress+ Others
Aaj Tak 93 44 3
Star News 78 55 7
Sahara 82 55 3
BJP/ NDA may not trail, but may remain a little behind the majority.
Overconfidence of BJP leaders will betray them. General people of India are very smart. In last year four states election people of India ditched all pre poll and exit surveys.
What if NDA lost totally?
BJP all the way baby...they are the smartest of the lot. The only thing that can be better than the current crop of NDA for India is if they all die and the next gerneration of leaders take hold.
I want Arun Shourie.. or Jaiteley...man these guys are awesome. I always liked some HBS or wharton influence in governance. Makes things transparent and effective.

YES...and that is the sad reality
or
may be end of BJP's rule.
BJP will tke it all home for two simple reasons. Indians respect Atalji very much if not Advani. They know that Atlaji stood up to the safran crowd and in fact has put Shivsena in its place a few times. Second reason is that average Indian eve thought he may not be able to artculate it sufficiently does not want political unrest for next few years. F & B, BJP is really a better protector of muslim electorate. Recent relaxation between India and Pakistan has convinced India that Atalji is the man for the job.

You sound like BJP's spokesman here,Arvind.
They delibrately killed people in Gujrat and still they are better protector. I dont want to get into this whole flawed logic of who started it and it was a reaction to Godhra. I have a very simple logic.. It is goverment 's responsibility to protect its citizen irrespectove of who voted for whom .BJP just allowed massacre to continue and it is a shame. Our country is only country where this could be allowed and people will vote those people back in power. If it was any other western country irrespective whole nation would be on street irrespective of which Ideology they belong to. It is just unacceptable.
I have a simple question. Since the election is in five phases, with the last phase in May. When will we all know which party will be in power for the next five years?
Do the initial trends typically continue or do we need to wait for the final stage?

Counting of votes will start after the last phase which I think is on 6th May.So we will know the results by 8th May.

Well i think they will get muslim votes more than they got before. Do you know that there are a lot more muslims in bjp then 5 years ago.
BJP won the state elections last year without using the religion funda. they won by a huge margin.
there are lot of big muslim leaders who left congress and joined BJP recently. my own uncle who is a muslim is in bjp and won the election.
Infact there is an muslim leader from gujrat who was in congress during the gujrat riots and he critisized bjp that time very hard and now he is in BJP.
** actually they are woeing secular Hindu vote by saying that "Look we want Muslims too"./]
yes, you are right and its a good ovservation.
