what's wrong if Indian content is shown? Quality entertainment obviously sells and sometimes not so high quality rubbish also sells. It is as much a reflection of the consumers! they pay for what they want.
even though they both come from identical cultural and artistic background it is astounding how the two industries have evolved within a short few decades!

I would blame audience for not raising their voice against this. Silence is Acceptance. Our country is going through a very rough time and here we have GEO and ary who have made a mockery of our national/social issues.
PEMRA is not going to take any action this, we the people need to speak out against this.

I wouldnt just hold the audience responsible, Media introduced them to all this, this trend didnt exist few years back, Pakistanis were watching the news channels even before this tamasha and if you ask many, they will still prefer PTV style news over this sansani news reporting inspired from our neighbour. dekhana bend kerdo, loog dekhna band kerdeinge, I think media and to some extent audience both are responsible.
I would want people to sign petitions or protest against this nonsense. it just needs to stop.
Focus on content of the news. Is the news honestly disbursed? Are serious matters suchvas
1) tax evasion by rich exposed
2) corruption exposed
3) rights of all citizens upheld
Write a petition etc to correct these. Compared to these music from neighbor seems a silly issue.

Forgive me but count me in also. In some of your posts there was reference to music from across the border. So why bang head - that seems more of a Hollywood stunt to counter or invalidate a viewpoint.

I dont really understand why you are getting so defensive? we arent bashing how good or bad indian music is. we are talking about professional journalism here.
and I have already mentioned the reason why I mentioned bollywood only, because they are playing bollywood songs only. if they were playing Pakistani music as background score. I would have problem with that as well. news channel is not an entertainment channel

Another term that senior management uses is " why are you getting defensive!". Never cared for that approach either.
I think you may have missed the bigger picture that journalism w/o music can be unprofessional while with music can be professional. Look beyond surface and dig deep to see if news has substance and promotes truth. Music (bollywood or lollywood) is irrelevant. If it gets eyeballs that is good.
No need for a monolithic news presentation.

I don't know about that, GEO ARY would be of the air if people weren't watching.
And sure, society and media feed of each other. But even if the Pakistani awam were introduced to this stuff by the present media, it is hard to deny that the appeal of thamasha and topi drama is ingrained in our psyche. People enjoy seeing thamsha. Its human nature. Isn't it instinct to want to stop and gawk at the unusual? Pakistanis in particular have an odd way of gawking at anything out of the ordinary. So it was only inevitable that some enterprising Pakistani producer decided to turn this aspect of the human psyche and channel it towards ratings and fame.
We did not see this stuff with ptv, because they weren't private. Leave to private channels to draw in the crowds.
Either way, regardless of who started the trend, the media is giving what the people have become addicted to.
Still, don't feel to bad. If you think this is bad, check out the Media in India. But then american media isn't all that great either.

You guys are missing the PTV khabarnama of the Zia days when the 9:00 news was nothing but the daily bulletin of what Zia did today and what the various governors and ministers did that day? When the only way to find out what is happening in your city was to try to catch BBC broadcast on radio? Zia’s children are every where…

lol... Zia was true to the comical dictator persona to the end. Media under his watch was nothing more then a guy with camera following him around all day.

I know there are far worse channels out there, fox news and indian news channels, instead of raising the bar, they are following the world. I havent seen those bulletins, but what I have heard from other people, it was all about Zia, Zia and only Zia.

Shiasta Zaid, who was a newscaster at Ptv for over 43 years has retired now. we have grown up watching her and this was her last bulletin … She had everything a newscaster/media person should have. grace, mannerism, professionalism, her tone, expression. everything was just perfect. aaj kal k anchors should learn a thing or two from this lady.

I know there are far worse channels out there, fox news and indian news channels, instead of raising the bar, they are following the world. People are at fault too, because they are watching this nonsense, the day we stop watching, their business which is only running on entertainment will go down.
My point is simply that people like, and have always liked this sort of tamasha. Even before we had the media, people would watch tamasha in dramas. They stop to witness tamasha on the streets, in the homes of their neighbors, etc.
The pleasure of witnessing tamasha and similar spectacles has been a part of the human psyche well before ARY/GEO came around.

I don't think we should be afraid to say that actually there is too much bollywood content on Pakistani channels and it is not right. Do our indian friends see any Pakistani content on indian channels? The problem is with over exposure of bollywood and not with indian culture or indians. Most of our News channels have become absolutely obsessed with bollywood and it is a very serious problem indeed. I don't watch Indian movies much but its forced upon me every time I put on these channels. Why on earth was Rajesh Kanna's death considered breaking news for Pakistanis is beyond me!
We need a petition against this nonsense!

We share a common culture and history. Outside of religion,we are both essentially the same.
I like movies, not because they are Pakistani or Indian but because they are good movies.
