Indian boxer beats world champion at olympic

AT 54KG class.
A very good example of adapting according to opponent’s style.
Russian was south-paw so indian boxer kumar led with right upper cut very often.
Its very very rare in boxing but it worked for him. I don’t believe that Mr. kumar is going to perform all that well against other boxers. But still It was an achievement. Interesting fight to watch.
Video is not too clear but still.

I am SAD no pakistani boxer could made it to olympic :(:(

I

Ever since Prof Anwar Choudry left the international boxing organisation, Pakistan's performance has been worsening in boxing.

Re: Indian boxer beats world champion at olympic

Knock Bhai, Thanks for this thread :)

But seriously I was waiting for the quater final results to post.

Now this guy is out !!!

This is the typical subcontinental mode of losing. Our people give in to emotions too much ,the poor lad just could not balance the pressure ,exerted both by media, people and his own mental stigma.

Once Saeed Anwar said ahead of a match with India.,when asked by a media person who would win.......and his reply was those who tackle pressure will win.....

The guy just succumbed to pressure. He had made a big mistake ,by making an open statement ,after he won the last match that gold was his aim.Good that he had self confidence but he made that statement at a time when Abhinav Bindra won a gold for India, and this guy scored a spectacular win over his Russian `would be medalist' counterpart, and that statement caught up with a lot of media attention and the guy was under total pressure subsequently

.I ,infact thought of posting it a few days back but jut left it like that.

Re: Indian boxer beats world champion at olympic

This guy comes from a very moderate family.

Re: Indian boxer beats world champion at olympic

You know, there is(may be/might be) one financial aspect to this .........

This guy comes from an ordinary family .When the pressure grew on him,he lost all his mental confidence and gave himself in.

Abhinav Bindra hails from a rich family, for him a medal is nothing(no offence to country ,his spirit and his achievement). He has got his own air condditioned training centre and other facilities and when he faced up with some back bone problem he could fly off to Germany and get assistance.Ahead of a big match he had no worries at all because first of all noone expected a medal in shooting,no media pressure+`nothing in lossing' shield.

Our boxing guy's case was totally different.......

This is in no offence to anybody.I am certainly proud of both guy's efforts and achievements. :

And above are my personal observations only .................

Re: Indian boxer beats world champion at olympic

gesto, I am not surprised that kumar is out. He didn't have strong enough body to fight NON asian boxers.
BUT
he did an excellent job beating russian. Very very smart boxing. He learned russian boxer's stance very well. HE was able to score in last 2 mins. Nice job. Old school boxing coaches in pakistan don't want boxers to lift weights. As a results boxer are just not strong enough to compete even with centeral asian boxers.

Re: Indian boxer beats world champion at olympic

any ways he played well lets see what the other 2 will do
