Re: India vs Sri Lanka 1st Test --- Old School Veterans vs The Freaks

Muralitharan is a superman - Waqar Younis

with a super throwing arm I must say.. I have always been a murali supporter (he still is a great human being), but the delivery to ganguly and immediately to karthik, were nothing short of chucks.. there should be review system that checks the degree of bend..

All that said.. the indians deserve this.. and so does the BCCI..

Re: India vs Sri Lanka 1st Test — Old School Veterans vs The Freaks

Skipper departs …
Murli got 11 wickets in match so far …

2 wickets left to end the match …

The match wasnt tht boring :hmmm:

:halo:

PS: :hula:

Sri Lanka walk away, led by Murali and Mendis. The first day was nearly washed out and yet, here we are in the fourth day and it’s all over. Mendis’ match haul of 8 for 132 is thebestby a Sri Lankan debutant, beating Kosala Kuruppuarachchi’s 7 for 85 against Pakistan in 1986. Indians couldn’t handle the double jeopardy. Total surrender.

More stats confirm the emphatic Sri Lankan victory. It’s also Sri Lanka’s third-biggestwin in Tests, and their largest against a team other than Zimbabwe.

And one more, from S Rajesh, our stats editor: Murali has dismissed Tendulkar seven times
, which is more than any other bowler. McGrath and Gillespie are next with 6.

Kumble: After getting 600 runs it was always tough for us to eke out a draw. Great spell by the two spinners. The review system is still a experiment; it has be to reviewed at the end of the series. It’s too early. Ajantha Mendis is a tremendous find for Sri Lanka. Great Debut. And you can’t take Murali out of the picture.

Mahela We probably played a perfect game. We put the pressure on the Indians by scoring 600 runs. It was not a bad wicket to bat on but Murali and Mendis bowled brialliantly. It’s a good feeling that 4 of the top 7 got hundreds.

Man of the Match: Muralitharan : We were under pressure before the game but I think Ajantha and my self bowled well. The wicket started to turn a little bit more and we did well. I had Vaas who would bowl well with me and now Ajantha is a new find. He is going to be the future of Sri Lankan cricket. When I started off my career, I was not as good as him.

What a fascinating test match. Who says it's boring in the subcontinent.

So at last my team's miseries havecome to an end..............:p

Re: India vs Sri Lanka 1st Test --- Old School Veterans vs The Freaks

Well...well...well.....can't seem to remember such meek surrender by Indian batsmen to SPINNERS for the whole time I have followed Cricket.

I am too dumb-founded to comment.

First and foremost, Harbhajan Singh should be dropped. As I have said before, he has literally bowled CRAP in the past year. Has remained in the limelight mainly because of controversies.

Karthik should make way for Parthiv Patel.

The above said, I don't think these replacements would change the result though.

Sri Lanks look like they will win the series 3-0.

haza min fazle rabbi

Wow, India got owned. Totally dominating performance by Sri Lanka. Mendis lived up to his hype and Murli, well naam hi kaafi hay, Genuine match-winner.

they will win 6-0, considering that they will defeat india by two innings every time.

Hope Indians willcome back in the next matches.

Touseef Ahmad and Iqbal Qasim did it earlier to India at Bangalore some 20 years ago!!!

Re: India vs Sri Lanka 1st Test --- Old School Veterans vs The Freaks

^ Not really my friend.

I remember that Test very well....in fact India actually came very close to winning that Test thanks to a super innings by Gavaskar.....but lost it at the end...

The wicket was turning square in that particular Test and except for Gavaskar...no other batsman made any impact. It was a low scoring game....one in which even the Pak batsmen were troubled by Indian spinners (Shivlal Yadav and I believe Maninder Singh).

This wicket (at SSG) was not really such a minefield....SL scored 600 on the wicket while India put on hardly anything. Indian spinners were totally harmless while SL spinners were a handful.

That was the difference.

Re: India vs Sri Lanka 1st Test — Old School Veterans vs The Freaks

^The game Mostar95 is referring to is this :
Cricinfo - 5th Test: India v Pakistan at Bangalore, Mar 13-17, 1987

As you can see, except for Gavaskar (in the 2nd innings), no other batsman (on either side) even got to a 50.

Pak scored only 116 in the 1st innings, but managed to scrap through to victory by 16 runs.

India had made a major mistake by leaving out Sivaramakrishnan from the playing eleven on a track that was generating ‘90 degrees’ turn.

^ Almost identical innings played by Tendulkar at Chennai in 1999, but at last Pakistan won by 12 runs.
