SA made a solid start . If they score 100 more runs ,Indians will be in trouble .Pitch seems to have nothing in it .Normally Chennai pitches offer some thing for the quicks .

Test matches should be banned in the sub-continent. PERIOD.
Dead pitches, hot, humid & dusty conditions, barely green grounds, smog/pollution, unruly crowds and everything else.
Fast bowlers just go through the motions while spinners like Kumble will bowl a million overs, give away 10 million runs and take 5-for…and the Indian media will jump up & down on the 5 wicket haul 
Only good for dead-track pehelwaans like Jaffer, Sehwag etc to get some limelight.
The recently concluded India-Pakistan Test Series is a case in point. All the 3 tests were played on “dead as dead can be” tracks.
Also, the first Test at Delhi was played in such smog that for the first 2-3 hours in the morning, you could barely see the match through the smog (even on TV).

Indian victories in India are not even 10% as much fun as in picture postcard settings of Australia/NZ/England… How I wish we could have an India-Pakistan Test series in Australia.

The pitch is dead...but RP Singh and Sreesanth have disapointed big time. Every over they were giving boundry delivery's to the SA batsmen..especially RP Singh. India is really missing Ishant and Zaheer...im sure if they were fit, things would have been different.
Also, I believe its time Dhoni is given the test captaincy as well. Seeing his captaincy in the commenwealth series...he's ready for this level :)

The Indian team only has 4 recognised bowlers and on a dead track....
Good for Amla with 150+, hope he goes on to 200+.
Glad that the neo-rasism issue with the selection of this team did not get the players down.
Would be interesting to see what Steyn will do on this track. Young and inexperienced but 100 wickets in 19 tests is not something everyone can do. A new Alan Donald in the making?

500-600+ totals are "recipe" for drawn Test Matches.
btw, as I predicted in my above post -- Jaffer/Sehwag combo having a merry time....and Harbhajan gets a 5-for --- albeit for 158 runs. Who cares...he is set for next 5 Tests.

atleast dravid is consistent when it comes to making easy pitches look difficult to bat on.
Current partnership 91 runs, 16.3 overs, RR: 5.51 (Dravid 9, Sehwag 80)
only 9 runs by dravid so far, that too off 55 balls. some flat pitch this is.

This pitch is flat, but Sehwag has gone berserk. He hit a six when he was on 193 to reach 199!.
