India vs SL : Asia Cup's first REAL match

I think Ganguly has gone mad.
2 big mistakes…

  1. Not to use Sachin as bowler even though wicket was slow.280 on this wicket was always going to be difficult.

&

  1. Use Parthiv patel to open. Why on earth would you do that in ODI when you have 3 of worls best openers in team.

Ignorant. :smack:

Sri Lanka see off India](BBC SPORT | Cricket | Sri Lanka see off India)

Sri Lanka 282-4 (50 overs) beat India 269-8 (50 overs) by 13 runs

A battling 82 from Rahul Dravid was not enough as Sri Lanka triumphed by 13 runs in an enthralling day-night Asia Cup encounter in Dambulla.

Marvan Atapattu, Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene all made half-centuries as Sri Lanka posted 282-4.

The hosts were coasting as Nuwan Zoysa took three wickets and ran out Virender Sehwag to leave India on 71-4.

But Dravid and Yuvraj Singh put on 133 for the fifth wicket to give India hope, but they could only reach 269-8.

Sri Lanka chose to bat first after winning the toss, but were frustrated by a rain delay of one hour after just seven balls.

It did not affect the hosts’ concentration, however, as they built on a solid start from openers Saman Jayantha (34) and Avishka Gunawardene (49).

Gunawardene was agonisingly run out needing just one run for his half-century, but Atapattu, Sangakkara and Jayawardene kept up the Sri Lankans’ momentum.

Jayawardene was the pick of the batsmen, his unbeaten 58 coming off 49 balls and including three fours and a six.

India were in trouble from the start in reply, Zoysa tempting Sachin Tendulkar into hoisting one to Jayantha in the fourth over - and he claimed another when Parthiv Patel was caught by Sangakkara.

Sehwag was then run out by a Zoysa throw from third man, and Sourav Ganguly followed shortly afterwards, caught by Muttiah Muralitharan to give Zoysa his third wicket and leave India struggling on 71-4.

But Dravid and Yuvraj put together an impressive partnership to give India hope, putting on 133 before Yuvraj was caught by Sangakkara off Chaminda Vaas for 46.

Dravid’s fine knock of 82 from 96 balls came to an end when he was bowled by a cunning Muralitharan delivery, and with him went India’s hopes of victory.

Sri Lankan all-rounder Sanath Jayasuriya did not play after a strain he suffered on the recent tour to Australia flared up, although the team hope he will be fit for the opening second-round match on Wednesday.
