India vs England: 1st Test Match Lords

Re: India vs England: 1st Test Match Lords

or have England improved...?

Re: India vs England: 1st Test Match Lords

Re: India vs England: 1st Test Match Lords

232/6

Laxman gone and with it the hopes of India to save or win the match. Can Dhoni pull it off?

Re: India vs England: 1st Test Match Lords

What is Dhoni doing, taking singles off the first ball of the over ??? Exposing first Kumble, and now Zaheer to the new ball. Poor thinking, esp with the rain seemingly not far away.

Re: India vs England: 1st Test Match Lords

Its hard to tell what exactly has happened to this batting powerhouse. Aging middle order? Lack of application? Lost focus? Or comibnation of all?

Come on, you are not carrying likes of Farhats, Hafeez or Iqbals, but the top scorers of the world.

Re: India vs England: 1st Test Match Lords

9 down, one more to go

Re: India vs England: 1st Test Match Lords

Its dark and light rain... India's only hope.
Tea break has been taken.
282/9

Re: India vs England: 1st Test Match Lords

How the hell dhoni scored 70+?"????..are eng fielding without any men betweeb keeper and point?

Re: India vs England: 1st Test Match Lords

even if India lose, the match was very eventful and entertaining
i didnt watch the 5th day at all, but looks like dhoni has played well, finally come to the party, but coming at #7....might be too late

Re: India vs England: 1st Test Match Lords

If one of the two - Dravid & Tendu - had scored some decent runs, it would have been very close. Dravid got a bad decision but Tendu - what can I say ? He is a 240/2 batsman. Meaning, he will score a century only if India is already sitting pretty when he comes in to bat.

But we must have the GREAT TENDU in the team - for he is God and not to be touched.....even if it means that a more able crisis-man - Yuvraj - sits out.

btw, I am impressed with Dhoni's efforts today. I am not very fond of his "bat-wielding" technique but he does give his best within his limitations.

Finally, India desperately needs a true all-rounder (Pathan should be recalled - if nobody else can be found), this tail is just too long. I mean you have 5 wickets down, and you are already looking down the barrel.

Re: India vs England: 1st Test Match Lords

^ So now Dhoni is ok and Tendulkar should get a boot for Yuvraj?

Every batsman got into double figures in first or second innings other than Dravid. They have secured their place for the second test. It's going to be a tough one for the selectors. Whom should you discard from the mighty batting line to make room for another mighty batsman.
door kay dhol suhanay.

Re: India vs England: 1st Test Match Lords

See....I have been asking for Tendu to get the boot for quite some time...esp after the BD series in which he scored 2 crappy centuries.

But he recently did reasonably well in the ODI series, so I thought may be he would be different in the Test series. But looks like, he is still the same.

As for Dhoni, given his technique, he is not a natural TEST PLAYER(certainly not someone you should play in place of Yuvraj). But I can't fault Dhoni on temperament or lack of effort. Like I said above, he gives his best within his limitations....

Re: India vs England: 1st Test Match Lords

Ok..We get it.
Now imagine that you are Dravid, Please advise who will you drop in next game to play Yuvraj. :p

Re: India vs England: 1st Test Match Lords

if he is dravid, forget about the second match. First of all he will make sure that Agarkar never ever gets selected in the Indian squad :hehe:

Re: India vs England: 1st Test Match Lords

Did anyone see little master playing in the first innings of this test match? For first half an hour, he was in deep trouble playing all sorts of awkward shots as well as trying to survive against some quality swing/fast bowling. For people like me who have seen tendulkar in his prime, it was just a horrible sight. What I fail to understand what exactly motivates tendulkar to continue his career? I agree that even today tendulkar is among top 10 international batsmen but he is a mere shadow of his past. Now if tendulkar was a sign of strength by providing a strategic balance to Indian batting by playing valuable innings during crisis (just like Gooch post 35 or Lara Post 33 or Inzi post 33), one could ignore his less-than-attractive batting style but unfortunately, Tendulakr has never bailed Indian team out of trouble. So why is he allowing all of his critics to make fun of him? He is one of the greatest batsmen cricket has ever seen and it is about time he should seriously consider retiring. I have a feeling that tendulkar desperately wants to play some real solid crisis innings before hanging his boots. He does not want to live with a 240 for 2 type batsman label.

Re: India vs England: 1st Test Match Lords

As fart as my memory goes, this is first time India was saved by rain from a certain defeat.

Re: India vs England: 1st Test Match Lords

Why did Vaughn Bring himself on when last men came to play, was it coz of the fading light or he wanted to buy dhoni's wicket?

Re: India vs England: 1st Test Match Lords

Ok..Let me imagine I was Dravid.

I would drop - not Tendulkar, not Dhoni...but Wasim Jaffer.
I will have Tendulkar open with Karthik.

I don't like Tendulkar but I would keep him in the 2nd test because of the TINA factor (There Is No Alternative).

Re: India vs England: 1st Test Match Lords

I am glad you are not Dravid. :D you wont be allowed to return to India.

Re: India vs England: 1st Test Match Lords

If you thought that was bad, you should have seen him playing the short deliveries of Mortaza and Shahadat Hossain in BD (the same bowlers who are being taken apart by the no-fuss Sri Lankans).

History will say that Tendu was the Man-of-the-series in BD. It will not say that his two centuries there were excruciatingly painful and distressing to say the least.
