India V Australia --Test 3, Delhi

Can’t believe there is no thread for the third test already…nehow here goes…

End of day 1:**India 296/3

Gambhir my man is rocking…wish i had chosen him as my trump…

**Heres what cricinfo has to say…

Very clearly India’s day from the time Kumble won the toss. Australia nipped out two wickets but Gambhir, on 149, forged two solid partnerships to help India get to 296 for 3 at the close. Its his third Test hundred, second at home, and second on the trot against Australia. He started slow and opened up between lunch and tea. Tendulkar played rather well for his 68, an innings of mostly back-foot strokes, while Laxman has gone past GR Viswanath’s tally of 6080 Test runs to finish on 54.

Re: India V Australia --Test 3, Delhi

Crazy batting by Gambhir. I just saw the highlights and I love the way he dishes it back to the Aussies. The Aussies started decent but then Gambhir took it away from them. Aussi bowlers were sledging nonstop. Go Gambhir!!

Check out the sledging @ Cricket Highlights Online Videos | Info Blog

I read the article which mentioned about the sledging and Gambhir elbow incident (we will call it Elbowgate). But there is no place for physicality on the cricket field, just none. You cannot expect to get away with it. Remember the Afridi/Gambhir incident from a couple of years ago where they both were fined. I am expecting both Watson and Gambhir, the two guilty parties, to pay over this. There was no apology from Gambhir, either. Also, that verbal altercation incident with Katich and Gambhir needs to be reviewed.

Yeah they BOTH should be fined if anything. If you see the clip on the website I posted you will see Watson had been talking trash for a while and just before the elbow from Gautam he himself was Edited*]* around with him having his arms in the air while Gautam ran by him on the first run. Same with Katich who was aggressively sledging nonstop. Gautam called him a cheat, Katch called him a little piece of **.

The Aussies are just sore losers.

tht was so funny…no doubt abt the “elbowgate” tht it was Gambhir who did it on purpose…but Simon Katich cud be in trouble too…tht was pretty obvious tht he was preventing Gambhir from getting across to the other end… But for once an Indian hasnt succumbed to the sledging and has actually fought back..remains to be seen if he can continue the good work today… thnks for the video Magic…

The Indians have actually changed their attitude a lot in the last few years. There is a lot more dishing it out that wasn't there a few years ago. Ofcourse there have been some ridiculous retarded aggressive antics by people like Sreesanth and Bhajji but overall there is a lot of positive aggression in the side. Nobody takes a sledge now without giving some back. Gautam is a small man compared to Andre Nel and Shane Watson but his attitude is of a Giant who will crush the opponent in his palms haha !

Re: India V Australia --Test 3, Delhi

India 426/3 (122.0 ov) *G Gambhir (lhb) 200 VVS Laxman (rhb) 127 No respite for the Australians!

VVS Laxman is rocking........165 not out against Australia - yeah baby.

India 1st innings 613/7d
**
VVS Laxman 200 not out - his second double career ton against the Aussies.**

Shane Watson fined 10% of his match fee.

Watson pleaded not guilty to the offence during his hearing but Broad found him “guilty of verbally engaging with Gambhir in a manner that was not in keeping with the spirit of cricket”.

Gambhir, however, pleaded guilty to the charge and he could face a ban of one Test. Level 2 penalties range from a fine of between 50 and 100% of match fees and/or a ban of one Test or two ODIs but the player has the right to appeal against the decision within 24 hours (CricInfo).

Australia 240/2

Australia 325/3

Ponting out for 87.

Hussey 52 not out.

Re: India V Australia --Test 3, Delhi

On a track where even Sehwag is getting turn, Kumble sahab are wicketless.

Re: India V Australia --Test 3, Delhi

india will be win this test as well

I predict an early demise for all those who have selected him in the team ( and also made him a trump :bummer: )

Re: India V Australia --Test 3, Delhi

I found it hypocritical for Gambhir to appeal against the one-test ban. This just goes to show that physicality in the cricket field can be tolerated amongst the players. A one-test match ban for the same repeated offense? What’s happened of ICC?

The pressure will be on Australia for the rest of the series to get a win to draw the series. Well played, India. And say goodbye to Kumble.

Re: India V Australia --Test 3, Delhi

Australian commentators are hopeful that "anything" can happen on the last day. :p

BCCI have sent an objection letter to the ICC noting their “displeasure” for upholding one-test ban.

“Justice Albie Sachs, appointed by the ICC to hear Gautam Gambhir’s appeal over his one-Test ban, has upheld the penalty imposed by match referee Chris Broad. The BCCI has refused to accept the decision, and has sent its objection to the ICC.” (CricInfo)

The Indian cricket board appears to be heading for a confrontation with ICC over the one-Test ban on Gautam Gambhir. While the BCCI has rejected the decision of the appeals commissioner, Justice Albie Sachs, to uphold the ban, and issued a strongly worded protest, the ICC has said the “matter is closed”.

“The ICC Code of Conduct is a robust and independent process designed to achieve a fair and proper outcome,” Haroon Lorgat, the ICC’s chief executive, said. “Although we have received an objection letter from the BCCI, there is nothing more that we can do as the Appeal Commissioner’s decision is a final and binding decision.”

The Indian board, in a statement, said the order “seems to have been pre-decided” as it had been passed without affording the player an opportunity of personal hearing and legal representation, without acceding to his request for certain documents/recordings to be given to him and also denying him an extension of time.

I guess everyone including BCCI expected that Gambhir will eventually get that 1 match ban even after his appeal. What they didn’t expect was that Gambhir won’t get a chance for a personal hearing, which means he would have to miss the last test.

Usually its a standard practice of teams/boards to appeal against the match referee’s ruling to allow their players to complete the ongoing series while ICC scheduling a date for personal heardiing which is usually 1 week or 2 after the appeal.
