India Tour of England 2011

Re: India Tour of England 2011

The way I see this game progressing..

India must find a way to restrict England to around 300 in the second innings (or a lead of 250+/-)

300+ will be difficult to chase on this wicket. Sachin is short of runs at the moment. He will come good at some stage in the series but is not known to do well when the chips are down. Only two batsmen, Dravid and Laxman are in any sort of form. Yuvraj (made runs in the 1st innings here) and the rest are just too inconsistent to be relied upon

This game could well finish on the 4th day..

Re: India Tour of England 2011

On second thoughts 200 is probably a par score to chase :D

Re: India Tour of England 2011

A target of 300 and England can win anything less than that India got the chance

Re: India Tour of England 2011

Broad Hattrick. Harbhajan was not out but no Hawk Eye meant no review. How India must rue the decision now.

Re: India Tour of England 2011

Stuart Broad comes to my mind as the only player, atleast in the modern era, to have excelled in cricket just like their dads

His father Chris Broad, now an ICC referee, was a decent stylish left-handed opener who averaged almost 40 in both test and limited overs cricket. He played in the 1987 five-match test series which Pak won 1-0 under Imran Khan

Gavaskar’s son was ordinary as a cricketer, never cut it at international level
Majid Khan’s son Bazid was so so too
Viv’s son played 1st class cricket in the Caribbean but thats about it really
Clive Lloyd’s son took Basket Ball up as a professional sport in the US

Re: India Tour of England 2011

Actually forgot about New Zealander Chris Cairns (son of Lance Cairns) who was a very good cricketer too

Re: India Tour of England 2011

On a lighter note what a time for Sachin to bring up his 100th international ton

Re: India Tour of England 2011

England will surely mind his 100th ton :hehe:

Re: India Tour of England 2011

Actually it is a lose-lose situation for poor Sachin unless India win

If he fails in the second innings and India lose the match, people will say 'see he rarely delivers when the chips are down'
If he scores a hundred but India still lose the game, some people will say 'another useless hundred by Sachin'

Re: India Tour of England 2011

No! Not live. This was a great experience - kuch Khatta (Indians getting out) kuch Meetha - hatrick is special).

years ago, Mumbai vs Madras Ranji trophy, ~ 1973 - I think a Madras bowler Kalyanasundaram had a hat-tricks vs Bombay - Bombat team had Gavaskar, Solkar etc.

That game, heard commentary through radio

Re: India Tour of England 2011

That is all my point is. Just because India made that decision - does not give an umpire license to be incompetent. all of Harpers decisions went against India. I only saw Indias batting, and heard abt some lbws not being given when England batted (esp Praveen Kumar bowling).

I hope this is not deliberate incompetence by this umpire (like Harper) to prove a point re: Indias DRS decision.

I have no problems if India loses fair and square.

The Pakistan umpire has been outstanding.

Re: India Tour of England 2011

Other examples -
Iftikar Ali Khan Pataudi - Mansur ali Khan Pataudi (my all time fav cricketeer)
Lala Amarnath - Mohnider Amarnath, Surinder Amarnath
Vinoo Mankad - Ashok Mankad
Vijay Manjrekar - Sanjay Manjrekar

And on lighter note
Krishnamachari Srikkanth - his son

Re: India Tour of England 2011

Very funny!!!

Re: India Tour of England 2011

You're right but I was only talking about the cricketers I saw. I never saw Vijay, Vinod, Lala, Hanif, Peter etc. play cricket

Other examples are:
- Hanif and Shoaib Mohammad
- Peter and Shaun Pollock

Re: India Tour of England 2011

^ True. I didn't see the elder folks play either. Did not know about Chris Broad.

If I am not mistaken, the Cairns duo were the same type of players. all rounders, right hand batsmen-medium pacers.

Re: India Tour of England 2011

i just saw a replay of the VVS not out decision ..... i thought his Bat brushed the front slightly

however .... Rauf has been outstanding :)

Re: India Tour of England 2011

Cool :)

Re: India Tour of England 2011
