Tomorrow's headlines:

Shoelace, Dhoni claim valuable scalps - Dravid, Tendulkar
India lose despite Tendulkar's non-century
Indian team shows double digit improvement in 2nd inning

Re: India Tour of England 2011

We knew the bowling was not more than ordinary but the indian batting too has been thoroughly disappointing on this tour

Worst performance by a touring team in recent memory

Re: India Tour of England 2011

England deserves to be number one because their team doesn't have any missing links. India obviously sucks in fielding and bowling department (home or abroad).

Having said that, let me be the first one to make excuses with all sincerity

Dravid/Tendulkar - Unlucky

Laxman/Ghambir - Two Too good deliveries

Raina/Sehwag - They shouldn't be playing test cricket no matter what the numbers say.

Re: India Tour of England 2011

Hindsight is 20/20

Personally, I think Sachin made a big blunder by not touring Windies. Even if he wanted to take a break after the World Cup, he should have just skipped the test series and played in the 5 one-dayers. Most likely he would have got that 100th hundred in one of those games. It would have taken the pressure off him and he could have approached the high-profile series against England with a positive, confident and relaxed frame of mind. Now everytime he goes out to bat, consciously or subconsciously that 100th ton is at the back of his mind which is affecting his batting and concentration at the crease

"Raina/Sehwag - They shouldn't be playing test cricket no matter what the numbers say."

well said.

The team is getting long in the tooth (or toothless some may say). There will be a painful transition period. Time to clean house - out with Sehwag, Sachin, Dravid, Laxman (much as I like last 3), and in with the new. Pujara, Kohli, Mukund, Vijay, Badrinath, Rohit, Ashwin.

As for fielding, I can provide anecdotal evidence. When Indians get together to play cricket, everyone wants to bat. In fact, for practice games, there is a beeline to go in at the top of the batting order. Especially in 1 inning limited over friendlies, if the team batting in 1st half of the inning scores poorly,, then there is huge commotion in the team batting second - everyone wants to get their batting turn before their team chases down the total.

When it comes to fielding, people reluctantly stroll to the field. They do not chase down balls that land far away. In other words, fielding is beneath them. All they want to do is batting.

I dont know how other ex-pats approach cricket practice games. But this is kind of par for the course wherever I have played with my Indian counterparts. Not sure this is just a reflection of the attitude towards fielding percolating all the way to the top.

Also, when Dravid briefly consulted with Tendulkar re: if he should consult the caught behind against him, I was surprised to see Tendulkar offer no opinion. Was he saving it for a contest in case he needed it down the road?

Bhindi pakaaon ke daal :D

Best time of the year for Pak cricket fans. There is no hope from Pakistan team, its dead. But thrashing of No. 1 team in this manner is unprecedented.

woooohoooo!

Re: India Tour of England 2011

The beloved BCCI seems incapable of divorcing politics and other outlandish notions from sports but that does not mean we should all follow suit. It is almost inevitable that any team will lose at some point of time. That India lost is not a conspiracy hatched up by Muslims! :)

After 24-hours of intense therapy, here is Rajesh Khanna’s reply to Rajesh Khan

English cricket seems to be going in the right direction. On the other hand, our cricket is all messed up. It hurts to see our team on all sorts of problems.
