**Not even mint-muncher Sehwag can swing things India’s way
If India had hoped to get the ball to swing with the help of some sugary saliva, they were disappointed.
Virender Sehwag spent some of the morning session apparently sucking on a mint, which he at one point dropped in the slips.
Meanwhile, Rahul Dravid was busy chewing gum — possibly imitating England in 2005, when Marcus Trescothick, his side’s chief ball-polisher, admitted sucking mints.
Law 42.3(a)(i) states that any fielder may ‘polish the ball provided that no artificial substance is used and that such polishing wastes no time’.
Dravid, Gambhir, Laxman and Tendulkar will see India safely through to a draw. Ehsan Bhai, tomorrow will be a long day. As stated earlier, kindly drink plenty of fluids while at the stadium.
England deserve #1. This is the best I've seen them play since I started following cricket (1995). This is better than 2005. Flintoff agrees with me!
Almost every player has stepped up and scored big runs and taken handful of wickets.
It's been a great run for India. 2+ years at the top. Over to you England. For now.
I dont consider England No 1..they need to beat india in india and sri-lanka in sri-lanka to claim this title....most of the cricket that they have played in last 18 months was either in england, australia or SA....let their batsmen prove that they can handle spin bowling in india and sri-lanka and let their bowlers prove they can get 20 wickets in sub-continent....as far as I know india beat them in 2008 when they toured India....so at minimum they need to draw series both in india and sri-lanka to get respect of a true No 1 team.....till then India is still no 1 in my books because they done pretty well in SA, England, Australia and Sri-lanka in last 4 years or so.
I must hurry to the ground otherwise will miss all the fun.
On a serious note how come England can post over 700 and India is struggling to reach 100, if it was Pakistan batsmen I could understand but what has happened to this batting line up.
Bresnan to Sreesanth, OUT, 128.2 kph, that's it! Bresnan finishes it. 3-0 England, *and for the first time since 1980 England are the world's No. 1 team! Length ball kicked up onto the shoulder of the bat, it flew to Pietersen at gully to spark wild celebrations. England get into that huddle we've seen at the end of their last three brilliant wins and they have absolutely nailed India here *
brilliant victory by England. An absolute rout. Lot of soul searching to be done by India. They have been comprehensively outplayed in all three games so far and it is not only the bowling but the batting has also been absolutely pathetic.
England win by an innings and 242 runs and lead series 3-0 Edgbaston rises as the England players walk off. In the dressing room Andy Flower looks absolutely calm but as the players greet him he manages a smile. This has been a special performance from a very special team. Yet again they have flattened the celebrated India batting line up for under 300. James Anderson led the way with four wickets but was, as ever, backed up by the Stuart Broad and Tim Bresnan. MS Dhoni managed to salvage some personal pride with an unbeaten 74 but his team were a long, long way out of the contest. It's the 15th worst innings defeat in Test history.
